The lyrics definitely hold up. Many whoever wrote this song was towards the end of a long career at the time. Frank Sinatra isn't know for writing songs, just having a great voice. He was going to quit singing and this song was part of his goodbye. But then he changed his mind.
He should have quit by 1980. You can already hear the slightest hint of vocal fry in this performance, but it became pervasive as he kept on. His phrasing, pitch and tone are absolutely perfect. Its an incredible job he does.
