Started at $13 as a laborer about 2 and a half years ago. Been doing everything I can to learn about the trade from paying attention on site to watching hundreds of hours of videos so I could understand everything that was going on at work. Just hit $20/ hour and confident that I'm worth a lot more as long as I keep chugging along. Any advice on ways to start making more money on those would be really appreciated, guys. Even with raises, I feel like this economy is drowning me. I love my job but I need to make more money
Find a new company
This is the way@@dj-rocketman8545
You are being taken advantage of with that wage they are paying you. You need to start shopping around and seeing what other companies are offering.
James frames
I’ve been framing for four years and I only just started making 20$/hour just this year
Thats not good. You should be at $30 at least now. Find your own contracts
Damn I've been framing for 4 months and I make 22 Canadian
22 an hour after a year and a half but it’s pretty laid back. How hard are you pushed at work?
I make 25 an hour and I’m just getting my first year over with
Pay like shit! Canada is expensive country and pay as fuck!
Great overview vid
Thank you. _x
I used to do a lot of framing, I found after a couple years I was building things in my sleep. Not good, it's like 24 hours of work. Now I frame sometimes, but generally just do the complete custom build. Shouldn't say, but i make over 40/hr in canada
where r ya in canada ?

When I was taking french in 10th grade I was always saying things in french in my head. Kind of annoying but it means your brain is learning, working the problems in the background.

Great! Do U have some information about constructions with Light Steel Frame (LSF)?
Is possible to study this in a college?
Thanks!
No just go to work l find any good crew they always need a guy
Look I started framing 6 years ago making 15 an hr. I work with Amish and and jumped around as I learned more. I started with no knowledge on a crew doing residential homes using trusses. Bracing is extremely important with trusses because in my opinion those Steele plates holding trusses together are garbage. I worked for a stick frame crew a while and they were great! They cost more to hire. I made 18 an hour starting with them. A couple years later I worked with a crew building nursing homes for 19 an hour. I now make 21 an hour and bring home 1000 a week with overtime.
I like your channel
It's a known fact that the first framers were ship builders. 3 stories up walking the wall laying out trusses, seems easy on land
Imagine in the water. Lol
Uh...you realize ships, even wooden ships back in the day, were built on land or in dry docks then launched into the ocean right?
Dry water.
Gavin....really?
I think it would be really hard to build a boat in the water.
Ask Jack.
There is a difference between ground guys, the cutter, and the the guy sitting up on the peak holding the peak and then nailing it. And it is deserved
I frame houses in Toronto, Canada. I am not a crew leader but have several years of experience and make $27.50 USD per hour. It is hard work though not for everybody
I make $ 35 per hour in NY , with 7 years of experience
I’m looking to become a carpenter/framer in Toronto. Though I’d probably have more luck getting jobs far out in developing cities. Would you say it’s hard to start out in this field in Toronto ?
@@mickeyminecraftgirl6077 Not at all. if you are willing to work hard and learn. it takes though a special type of person who can put up with the heat in the summer, the cold in the winter, working at heights and all sorts of muscle pains in the beginning. If I had only one advice for you I will tell you to take a job that is covered by the 183 Union. and never leave that Union, dont miss Union payments. it is as important as the work itself for your medical coverage ( insurance and expenses nor covered by OHIP like dental plans) and for your future when working outdoors wont be as cool and your buddy will start failing on you.
@@kuquito thanks so much for the advice! I’ve been crafty my whole life but not so much with lumber. I’m building a treehouse this summer and as I taught myself the basics of how joists, beams and studs work I kind of fell in love with the craft. I’m a hard worker with drive but I know I got to get more in shape before I try to get work in the field. I’m more worried abt crap from old guys because I’m a girl lol. Carpentry is taxing on the body but my dad was a roofer so I have his knowledge on how to protect yourself from long term injury.

The question I am interested in is how you grew your contact list. As in the builders who gave you the job. I believe that's the hardest part when going off on your own. Do you steal them fro. Your boss and just do a lower estimate ?????? Lol
I never had to do that. I made up my mind that I was going to start my own crew and just started talking to different contractors. I also had built a small clientele over the years by doing side jobs. My thing was I was willing to take the jobs the other guys didn't want. 19 years later I've had a pretty cool run of ups and downs and sometimes it completely sucked but I did it my way
Once you work for someone you will meet a few people , also you can go to job sites and ask builders if they’re looking for carpenters. If your working on a subdivision there’s set prices for each unit so they’re wouldn’t be any underbidding.. unless you go do private jobs!
My name is Arnold and I want to be a FRAMER !
It's a phenomenon
Can any pros out there talk about some mistakes they made on the job and what the reactions were? Were there any costly mistakes that impacted budget and how do you come back from that?

Must be nice I've been framing custom homes for 3 years and doing the foundations...make 20$ and hour started at 18$ for my first year ... usually work 10 hour days and only 2 man crew but we are a fast crew

You need grade 9 math. People complain about being taught the Pythagorean theorem, but you use it as a carpenter

I live in Kansas. Cost of living here is cheap. I’m a crew leader so I make 23/hour. Never heard of anyone making more than that for an hourly wage around here. My buddy moved to Minnesota for a couple months and got a job working demolition. Started off at 30 fucking dollars an hour with zero zilch construction experience. I thought that was ridiculous and I was kinda pissed honestly. Then I realized how expensive it was to live there. He was paying 1500 a month for an average one room apartment. Here in Kansas I pay 775 for my two bedroom one bath 1200 square foot home.
i8dapuszy trust me brotha you are living a dream I got paid 32.50 as a diesel mechanic in CA my apartment two bedroom is 2300. Leaving this place soon

Paid by the job. Not hourly.
Hello James I need job can you help me please? 🌹
Well where are you framing ? Cause I be getting 15 an hour knowing the whole job !
Not good at all
How much does the frammer boss of company charge per square ft $?
A peace worker works for a contractor and there's a price list that determines what you get paid
Typically 8-11$ per square foot but price may change depending on roof pitch, and many various factors
In Canada atleast
Did your crew speak English or Spanish. Bc in Georgia it seems that all crews are Hispanic.
He's in Canada so more like alot of different people
19 an hour start more like 15 here
40 an hr is just about maxed out in new york
Same here in nj... customs of course..
What is a piece worker?
hey buddy, a peace worker is somebody who doesnt make an hourly wage. For example, you can have a 3 man crew and the contractor wants the floor floor and walls framed in 5 days with a 3000$ dollar payout for the three of you to split. If you can do the work in shorter time, you can make MUCH more money, however if you're new hourly is better since you'll be slow and not experienced but still make decent money

Don't do it man. It's terribly hard work for low pay. The wages this guy is probably knly where he lives. It actually pays one of the lowest out of all the trades despute being one of the most physically demanding, next to roofers and concrete workers.
