We actually called our local gmc dealer to set an appointment and they told us we would have to leave the car there for 2 days.
Then my wife found this video, we ordered the cable and 20 minutes later were back in business.

ANYONE WHO HAVING THIS PROBLEM..... DEFINITELY FOLLOW THIS VIDEO. ......I want to thank you for this video . My front screen went out in my 2015 yukon XL Denali last week I thought I would've have to but another assembly or find it on ebay. My wife ran across your video and showed it to me. Today I followed your video step by step. It was easy to follow and very well narrated. Glad my wife is a research type of person. Herself and your video saved the day. Thank you again for this video. If anyone has this problem. Follow this video and subscribe it will be worth it. Thanks again Brian.

I want to thank you for taking the time to make this video. I heard about these ribbon wires going bad and that you could replace them but I was so nervous about trying to do it myself and possibly making things worse. Your video was so easy to follow and gave me the confidence to do it! I went a month or two without the TV trying to figure out what I was going to do about it. I knew just getting one from a junkyard was pretty expensive and like you said getting it repaired at a dealership is crazy. After researching I found out about the ribbon wire and I ordered them like you did. Then I thought I could find someone to change it for me but that proved difficult as well. I took it apart once and chickened out LOL. That was about six months ago. I finally decided to give it another shot and try and find a video like yours to help me through it. Great job on the video, I couldn’t have done it without you!😁👍👍 I can’t wait to show my four-year-old he has his TV back! Thank you from the both of us!

I just brought a 15 with same issue. My front screen shows video/audio sharing not available at this time. I did replace ribbon but still nothing but it looks like it wants to work. If I move buttons I can barley see something moving. Does your front screen ever give you a message

@@48916211 the 40 pin ribbon actually fixed it. The front screen never gave me any notification or anything like that. The front was working fine just no picture in the back. Hope you figure it out. I also ordered a remote on Amazon thinking maybe that was needed but it was just the ribbon.

It worked! Found your video online but still went to a Chevy dealer for a quote. They wanted $650 for a new screen. They did a “test” and assured me it was not the cable and the screen definitely needed to be replaced. I followed your video step by step and the screen was fixed. The most difficult part was separating the back panel from the screen without damaging the plastic clip brackets. I recommend using a tech tool kit with separating tools. Thank you!

The man who saves a lot of money, Bravo....35 cents cable vs $350 to 7-800$ repair!....I could fix my 2016 Tahoe screen in less than an hour. After you remove 4 screws/nuts (need 7mm hex nut driver), video @1min39sec, you need to push the little pin at the back/top of each connector to release the cables. Very easy, just need a light source to see the pins at the back/top of the connectors...Thanks again Brian!

Just completed BOTH my monitors following your video and have fully functioning monitors now.
Recently bought a 2017 suburban and within a week the second row monitor went out. I looked online for options because there was NO WAY I was going to take it to chevy and pay hundreds of dollars when I just bought it. I found an article about these monitors having this faulty wire and people changing them out themselves. I was sold; so then I looked on YT and found this very detailed video. I ordered the proper wires online for about 8 bucks(20 pack) on Amazon and per commentary and video I bout a hex nut set which included the 7mm one I needed to get monitor out car.
I read the comments and suggestions from past viewers and then started to confidently work on replacing the wire that was the issue. As another commentor posted I decided to change both just incase the other one was on its way out too.
The only constructive criticism I have is not to include kids when doing a 'how to' video; it was alittle annoying and made me rewind some sections a few times(mostly the begining when in the car) because I couldn't hear with the child in the car talking. Second would be to show us the struggle as well because if you struggle during instructions so will we. I'm referring to the section when it was time to remove the screen from itself; when it became difficult the scene was cut and then when you came back on you had it off already telling viewers to be careful taking it off. Why cut it? Show us too how you got it off, it was my first time doing it and I struggled wondering if there was a trick to removing it, as a result I broke more then I wanted of those clip things.
Overall video was good and I will look for this person if I need another how-to on something. Thank you

Wanted to let everyone know, the second row screen on mine did very slightly, there was a slim metal cover over the ribbon on the back of the LCD. I was able to use a pry tool to remove it, no screws, just some funky press fit clips. Otherwise it was exactly the same! Thanks for the more pleasant road trips this summer!

    Kuddos for posting this!
Just a friendly tip for anyone attempting this. I went ahead and followed these instructions and still had an issue. The issue was actually worse than when I took it down. I had a hunch that one of the NEW ribbon cables I used may have been faulty. So I went ahead and went through the steps yet again and grabbed another new ribbon cable... and it finally worked. So if you go through this process and it still doesn't work, Try another ribbon cable from your pack in the event the new cable is faulty.
    Thanks again!

This is a serious design flaw that hopefully GM addressed in the later models. I recently bought a used 2015 Yukon and didn't think to check the rear screen before I signed the as-is paperwork. When I finally tried to pop a DVD in a few days later after purchase, I got the black screen of death. When I took it in for a separate issue the dealer was going to cover that we found before purchase, I had them look at the DVD unit, and after one day of "working on it", they said the unit would have to be replaced for $600+ dollars parts/labor. It seems to be the same story that the dealers won't even attempt to fix the ribbon and see if that works, for which they could still charge one full labor hour for. Instead, they attempt to gouge you for something that could take 30 minutes for you to fix at home with a little know-how and some simple tools. Thank you for this video!

Bravo on your video. Extremely helpful and I appreciate you not leaving out anything in the porcess . The two wires that you have to disconnect from the screen when taking it out of the car. Maybe make sure next time just to let people know that you have to kind of pinch them and wiggle them out it's very hard to see so unless you know that initially. you're going to sit there and pull on them and possibly break them. Otherwise Brian, the video was great and in my situation I knew that my strip was not broken because if you pulled the screen down halfway it would light up and turn on but if you pulled it down all the way it would not turn on. So I knew that my strip probably just needed to be taken out and flipped around. And that's what I did. After reassembling the entire housing it works great. Love the video thanks a lot.

Thank you so much for sharing this! This was exactly the problem with ours and this fixed it! I’m tempted to go ahead and replace the 2nd row’s cable before our upcoming roadtrip just in case.

Thank you for this. My first attempt did not work, guessing I didn't push the cable far enough into slot. Tried again, and now works. The screws next to the lights and the button to push to open screen, do not need to come out. Figured that out on my second attempt. There ought to be a tipping option on here, so I could send you an actual thank you.

Ver very very helpful! Guys if your thinking of doing this go for it. Also a tip to you , make sure you buy the 40 pin reversal ribbon cable. If you buy on amazon make sure you get the 200mm cable cause the 150mm will work but its harder to work with since its shorter. Make sure the connections are on the opposite sides of the cable and not on the same side or it will not work. Good luck guys!

Thank you for this step by step process. Our screen went out during a road trip. After researching the issue and finding your video, I was able to fix it on the road.
