- Chris Kirkland is with us this week talking through his early career at Coventry. Completing his dream move signing for Liverpool. Playing his best years at Wigan, and understanding his struggles off the field whilst at Sheffield Wednesday.

Massively underrated episode lads. The openness and honesty with which he speaks is overwhelming.
Met Chris Kirkland at Sheffield Childrens Hospital a few years ago and he spent a good while with my son. Totally genuine bloke.
Top man Kirky, loved his time at Wednesday. The fact he's very open about his mental health struggle will help others. Class act!
Alan Smith wants his voice back. What a guy Kirkland is. Top man. Ruined by injuries. Such a shame.
Massively embarrassed to be a Leeds fan when I hear Chris talking about what he’s been through with us, I can only apologise Chris! It’s great to hear you talk about your struggles and how you’ve overcome them! Top bloke and a great interview lads, all the best
To say that Chris went through what he did at Wednesday it shows how class he was because we loved him at Hillsborough. Even though all that he was a quality keeper. You'd have never know he was going through that because he was so good it shows the class of the man. He should be proud.
Nearly cried my silly little eyes out when Chris was talking about pre season in Portugal with Bury. Glad he got the help he needed and Dave was so understanding, lucky really.
Kudos to you Chris for being a driving force for understanding of mental health issues in football.
Top bloke is Chris Kirkland, top interview and top podcast altogether. It’s absolutely criminal that you only have around 35k subscribers. Absolutely brilliant listen time after time. Keep it up lads 👏🏼
One of the best episodes. Well done, Chris and to all involved 👏
Nice guy, I love how honest and brave he is with his feelings, no ego at all.
Favourite so far that. Goosebumps thinking about his mental health story
What a top bloke. Really good keeper too. Much respect for talking about his depression.
Really interesting podcast, much respect to Chris for speaking about his mental health journey. What happened following the Leeds vs Wednesday incident as described is shocking - no-one should have to go through that and it should shame everyone associated with Leeds. I say this as a Leeds fan.
Who made you the voice of the club? Wednesday fans singing Istanbul and Kirkland waving his arms and holding his ears....play with fire
@@RyanDogs Well given the club said at the time "Leeds United would like to publicly apologise and condemn the action of the fan who came on the pitch and attacked Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland. After the week football has endured there is no place for this type of behaviour and the majority of Leeds supporters will be ashamed of his actions." it would appear I do speak for the club! I can only assume your no real Leeds fan - to suggest that what happened was in any way deserved is just shameful to be fair - come back when you've developed any sense of empathy...
incredibly brave bloke! Great episode
Only catching up with this now. Brilliant show, recommended viewing
The best episode I have watched.
What a genuine bloke. Top man.
What a top bloke Chris Kirkland is!
Great show lads Chris was a top keeper and a great lad

Brilliant so glad your back doing the podcasts in person to. Quality stuff as always lads.
Great pod as always guys and these really deserve more exposure.
Great to hear Chris is doing well now too.
Another great episode lads, I was looking forward to this episode because I also suffer with mental health and I remember Chris being one of the first players to come out and discuss it in detail which I thought was excellent.
Just watched this. Superb. Chris you are a legend
Brilliant podcast wow never knew he was this way before , no matter how big or small we all feel emotion
Fair play to Chris Kirkland top keeper and top guy. Great episode lads
Lovely pal thanks for this
Yes! Great vid lads. Very open honest from Chris, full of respect for that man. Cracking keeper.
What a great interview.
Hats off to you Chris. Massive football fan who is also going through the mental health issues. Brave man. Take care and am so glad you have a great wife who is supporting you brilliantly. Also proves our illness has Jack shit to do with wealth ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍
What a great down to earth bloke, always rated him as one of the best keepers ....phenomenal when fit
This is top class 👏
Great show again!
Excellent Pod guys, really enjoyed it. Top man Kirkland
Class craic lads!!! Excellent.
Credit to Chris too being so open and honest.
Best podcasts around easily 👍🏻
Class keeper. Very unfortunate with the injuries
Top bloke and a top keeper. Shame about the injuries but as a Wednesday fan I remember him always playing well in what was a very average squad.
Really good one this. Top guy
Sheffield Wednesday legend
Enjoyed that, seems a good lad Chris.
Love Kirkland, hope he's on the mend now. All the best WAWAW
Top man good to see a human side to the game which can be lacking at times
Great episode! :)
What a top lad enjoyed the story
I was behind the goal at Palace when Adebola did Chris' knee. Knew it was a bad one straight away. Good pod as always guys
Paul jewell bought valencia not Steve Bruce
What a great guy!
One of Wigan's very best keepers good luck chris
Honestly gents the work you guys are doing is amazing! Thank you
Great show guys.. get the show though youtube Australia.. Chris seems a nice lad such a shame about the injurys he had in his playing career
Quality episode 🧤👍🏽
Great stuff Chris
Big props to Kirkland
I’ve been looking for a football podcast with some northern lads for a while, this one seems good 👍
Class as per
There seems to be a collective opinion on Bellamy, good to hear of how Paul Williams sparked him out.
What a top man how open he was was about mentel health 👏
Brilliant stuff lads, really good podcast this. The emotional range covered, from the Mark B and Andy Johnson laughs to the poignancy in the latter part of this episode, is pretty unique in sporting media.
Brilliant podcast really enjoyed it ... in previous life enjoyed a night out with chris brown and a friend of a friend Neil Collins when both were playing at Sunderland under Keane. We were down to see Neil for weekend , went to game v Barnsley met the boys in players lounge including chris brother and his mrs really sound people ! Then a night out in Newcastle ... we met the boys in a city centre bar me and my mate buzzing . My mate is small around 5ft 4 chris comes over and we are all bantering and chris hits my mate with “you alright lads .. are you standing in a hole “ 😂😂😂 we still use that line to this day on my mate 👌
YES KIRKLAND! WEDNESDAY!
Terrible run with injuries. England had a promising rivalry with Kirkland and Robinson. Really enjoyed the podcast lads, Chris comes across as a top lad.
top podcast lads glad the camera is back on keep it up!
Love an interview with Neville Southall
Give Nev a shout. See if he's up for it..
Love to see paul mcgrath on here
He played 45 times for Liverpool, 25 in the PL. The ninth goal at WHL was given as a Kirkland OG.
Great pro... was great at wigan!
Nice to hear Steve Bruce is a Proper bloke!
Top fella he is
Being a Chelsea girl, I was fuming over the way we got conned in the 2005 semis. So I wanted AC Milan to win the final. Right pissed me off when Liverpool won it x
Top honest pro. Shame it didn't work out at Liverpool for him because he had great ability on his day. Should have had far more England caps
Is Chris wearing a Make Bolton Great Again cap?
Talking of the 9-1 haha, swings and roundabouts, you release this the day Wigan win 8-0
Why isn't there a million subs on here these are top.
Did he say he’s dad only got 100/1 for him to play for England when he was 13?thats crazy when you think about it you can get 100/1 just taking a couple of teams to win on an acca should of at least been a couple thousand to 1 , great podcast lads an underrated episode for sure really nice fella is kirky 😊👍
Boss stuff boysz
I enjoyed the Chris Kirkland podcast lads he's very well spoken. It's good to see him going out on walks and speaking up about his mental health. He's a true inspiration I have to say as toon fan. He talk about Steve Bruce. I wasn't his biggest fan when he took the job once Rafa Benitez left. He's done a good job for us he's getting the best out our squad. Keep up the good work!
As an Everton fan I totally understand Kirkland’s bewildered view of Martinez and his delusion!
Lol Martinez was one of the greatest managers in Wigan's history, Kirkland's probably just miffed that he dropped him for al-Habsi
What was the documentary he did?
Shame the injuries he had held him back. Unreal keeper on his day.
Top man
First time I ever saw him play was at Anfield when he was in goal for Coventry. He was 18 and it was still the best goalkeeping display I've ever seen. We beat Coventry 1-0 (Jamie Redknapp scored) and it was purely down to him. It should've been a bloody cricket score.
@wildebest Obviously if he conceded 4.
@wildebest No I was there for both games. Trust me, Kirkland's was better.
Tbf our games against shef Wednesday are always abit spicy.
Super Chrissy Kirkland
I totally agree with Kirkland here, for me I’d take Club success over international success any day.
Top lad👍
You can tell he was a proper professional.
True with these lads its usually trying to drag out drinking stories ,bit childish
Glad u dropped the gossip b4 the actual podcast.
Get Phil stamp will have some good stories about emmerson juninho. Ravanelli 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇮🇹
When you look back at the time you're suffering .. you realise there was alot on your plate during those years. One of my fave sayings is - maybe your not depressed, maybe your surrounded by assholes.
Good keeper wawaw
Mad control freak bunnie boiler 😂😂
It is quite plausible the Police did have undercover firearms officers in the crowd in close proximity to the goal keeper as if they had intelligence of a certain threat to a persons life and they did nothing about that the officers in charge would be open to discipline charges if something had occurred and nothing was put in place to mitigate that threat besides which there is no reason not to believe what Chris Kirkland was saying.
“Aww viva espagna” 🤣
Nice chat
A minute in why would anyone want to punch this lad! Great stuff Chris!
Get Curtis Woodhouse on he's a top top fella.
Big ask but any chance of Paul McGrath ?????
He lives in Ireland, it would probably have to be a Zoom job.
Bit of a pattern here... He’s very critical of the managers that dropped him, takes things too personally this lad!
