- This is my friend Bobby Leigh's reaction to watching BAND-MAID / Choose me (Official Music Video) for the first time.
Bobby Leigh was tour manager and/or sound guy for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Social Distortion, 4 Non Blondes, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynrd, KISS, Skid Row, Guns N' Roses, Stryper, & The Offspring. Recently he was a judge on the show International Indian Icon 3.

All it takes is for anyone with a true music background to see the Maids just once. They immediately see the power and talent of this band. The Maids will be a worldwide phenomenon and one of the most popular bands ever.
I love this format of introducing various bands to fellow roadies , it's a refreshing change from the usual reactions
I agree. I like that. Then there are two genuine roadies that have toured with the great bands in the same session. And I like when he is showing proudly bands that he likes, to roadies that have no clue. I do not know if this guy has the powers to approach BAND-MAID or if he was just talking. He absolutely wished he could though. That was obvious.
The fact that he can see their stage presence from a music video is astounding. Should have shown them a live video. lol
The lyrics are so cleverly done, they put in just enough English for you to be able to follow the rest of the lyrics.
Band-Maid's recent sold out, 8,000 seat Garden Concert was incredible. They played 26 songs (nearly 3 hours) including From Now On, Puzzle and closed with Choose Me!! Thx, Joel!
Thanks for showing Bobby, Band-Maid. It's obvious he gets them and hopefully with all his connections, he can raise some more awareness for the girls.
Choose Me is one of my all time favorite songs from the Maids, and the song that I started getting back into playing bass with. But as awesome as this song is, Kanami has come out and admitted that she can't write songs like this anymore...not because they are too hard to create, but because they are too EASY to do. lol
I know that light in his eye throughout the whole song! And I'm sure I had the same one the first time I saw them. The "where were they during all this time? "light in the eye.

Great reaction. I really appreciate that you are spreading the gospel of Band Maid to other industry connected folks. All it will take is a couple of renowned musicians jumping on the Band Maid wagon to really ignite the fire and get these ladies to the promised land. They deserve it! Cheers mate 👍

Bandmaid really needs someone in the US to help them open up a US based online store. They could have merch stored/shipped from here and available from here because it is so hard to use their Japanese website/store. The other day I was thinking that I would love to have a Bandmaid workout shirt to wear to the gym and it would be really nice if one were easily available on line.
They have a limited time one right now. If you go to their site, the link should be up under the merch link. Support them by buying something off the store. Show them it's something they need to make permanent.
The frustrating thing is there are probably plenty of fans who'd be more than happy to run regional (e.g. North America, Europe) fulfillment operations out of their garage or basement just to contribute to the community and get some free shirts
Best hard rock band since the the early eighties...if not forever! They kick so many butts!

Hey Joel!! I am here again for Band-Maid, after seeing you introduce him to The Warning. I am, hopefully, see BOTH bands at "Welcome to Rockville" in May at Daytona Beach!! It is going to be EPIC seeing people's reactions to both bands for the first time!
Nice reaction and it is really nice to see the music pros. Genius idea for a podcast. And it got me to buy your book. Band-Maid's 10th anniversary year is turning out pretty good. Band-Maid was in the US last October on tour, opened for GnR the week they got back to Japan. Then in January, their biggest venue ever at Tokyo Garden and with a new song written during the October US tour. Then back again at the beginning of February to open for The Last Rockstars in NYC and LA, and filmed a music video for the new song Memorable while in LA. Then back again this coming May for three festivals and several concerts and then back again in August (no announcements yet.). Live Nation seems to be coming through for them. I hope they are collecting their frequent flyer miles. Plus they are fitting in a Japanese tour in-between, finishing at an even bigger venue in Yokohama in November. Real bunch of slackers. 🙂 I am sure people have told you The Warning and Band-Maid finally met each other in person at Aftershock in Sacramento.

This is interesting. On the Band-Maid reddit page some of us were wondering how to describe the ladies to someone who had heard them before. We settled on: Think of Guns and Roses but with more talent and less attitude. About sums it up.
I wouldn't put the maids in the same framework as GNR even the early form as GNR has always had a huge ego where the maids have never brought an ego on any level close to them
The Netflix movie Kate had The Maids in a cameo perform this song.
You might want to check out the video of Band-Maid meeting The Warning at Aftershock. It is short, but very cool.

In 2022, the band performed at the music festival "AFTERSHOCK," and their U.S. tour, which drew over 20,000 people, was a huge success, with all venues SOLD OUT.
Immediately after the U.S. tour, the band also performed in Japan with Guns N' Roses.
In 2023, the band will celebrate its 10th anniversary, and will hold its 10th anniversary tour around the world, with tours in the U.S. in May and August, and appearances at major international festivals to be confirmed one after another.

Man, that G&L is a monster. It wouldn't surprise me if she still uses it in the studio. Have you heard of Otoboke Beaver? Four ladies out of Kyoto thrash punkin' their way across the USA as we speak. Their Band Camp video on YT is great.

I wonder if you hear a bit of Aerosmith in Band-Maid. They have a lot of influences, but they can hit a grove the Aerosmith does.
IMHO not so much. Aerosmith is heavily blues based. Band-Maid has some blues influence, but has a much wider influence on their sound.
@@armynurseboy It's their grooves they can get into. Other influences are alternative rock, indie rock, j-rock, classic rock, jazz and R&B soul. It's all mixed in and that includes the ability to get some groove rock going.
So, what plans does he have for Band-Maid. Seems like he's plotting something big for them that he wishes to discuss with you off-air.
