Call me a pessimist, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if it was a White 5-eyes nation finally coming to the table with new partnership options, not dissimilar to China’s current programs, these two chaps wouldn’t feel a burning desire to write a report about how concerned they are, and instead might even be celebrating that Africa finally has multiple options competing with each other, creating an environment where prospective partners will now have to compete for Africa’s cooperation instead of having a single, brutal, exploitative option.

Mr Roets appears to be acting in the greater interest of the US. As much as he is entitled to his opinion, Africa should unshuckle itself from colonial interests and begin to forge relationships which are based on mutual respect. Africa has been a victim of Western exploitation and their suggorate settler population. China offers Africa a chance to progress and should be supported.
