I've been watching your videos for about five hours. You do a really nice job, thank you so much. I found you because I'm looking at using my kayak to do some trout fishing. I've gained a lot of really good ideas. I'll try to post back and tag you so you can see my completed project. Thanks again!
Zoff-the pure genius of Zoffinger is what was represented by Kon Tiki and now that you have a Pelican and they have granted you free license to fabricate...well the ZOFF is back. The artist, the creativity, the ingenuity with a small budget (like all of us) is back! Zoff is the man no matter what.
We use that mesh to put salmon eggs in for steelhead up in Michigan. And I dig how you incorporated it into Sheepshead fishing! I learned a new technique today...
I agree. You should post more fishing videos up since it's too cold to fish for anything but trout really up in New Jersey :/. Love the vids man. I like when you record the filleting/cooking process too.
Zoffinger - I have been subscribed to you for a few months now and just want you to know how much I enjoy your fishing videos! As an avid fisherman myself, I love that you provide new fishing techniques as well as home-spun humor. Top it off with some great videography and beautiful scenery and it makes for an enjoyable viewing experience. BTW, although I have fished my whole life I've never tried kayak fishing, however I'm considering giving it a go, thanks in part to you, God bless and keep up the good work.
Your first idea of cutting the jagged edges off of the break on each side, then inserting the smaller diameter into the larger, worked for one of my rods. I guess I got lucky with the sizes. I did that ten years ago, and the rod is still going strong. I wrapped the outside with braided line and slathered it with epoxy and some sort of UV coating. Can't complain.
another awesome vid. its funny how certain items no matter the cost hold a sentimental value to us. lots of memories with that rod. thanks for sharing some of those memeries with us marty.
Hey Marty, I tried your oysterball bait yesterday. Worked Great, I caught a 21" and 19" sheepshead. I also caught a huge 38" black drum. Thanks for the tip, will use them again.
you know its not that easy to make video quick every day its hard to get good shots, angles, and good narration but you know that if he were to post every day his videos wouldnt be good or as good but he should focus whats important now and getting used to live on a boat thank you
We have tried the oyster trick on Europe and got a really nice bite, after that the fish went under the rocks and tangled the line, but that was a really good experience. Thanks for the tip!
Nice one Marty. Just remember, your fishing rods etc are just tools. Like a spanner or set of adjustables, sometimes they break. Sure, it can be a huge disappointment. Especially if you have saved long and hard to afford the item in question. But they are still just tools. Sometimes, you may be able to fix or repair them, but if they have suffered a structural failure, they will never be anything like the same after a rebuild / repair and will likely not only fail again, but fail when you most need them too - hooked into that big fish... BTW, you got any updates on your "boat" progress, Marty??
+MrTatts64 My only status update involves eggs and bacon. The weather is nice though and all the hatches are open letting in a delightful breeze as I type this.
+zoffinger Lots of lovely bacon too, I suppose mate ;) Open hatches are good. VERY good! Nothing worse than mold on a boat you hope to be living upon. Well, except maybe far too much water inside the boat of course...
I am a new subscriber now. You have made a wonderfully edited video that I think stands up very well against any commercially made video. I look forward to exploring your other videos and your future ones. Your various video camera angles are wonderful for your video story.
In Brazil we say: If life trows you lemons, make some caipirinha.(cracked ice, 3 to 5 peeled lemon slices, few sugar(a full spoon), and a shot(or 2 for strong) of cane liquor - mash all with a hand pounder, or mix in a cocktail mixer and drink).
Good fun, thanks for sharing the Lemon. I have broken a few rods like yours. I nicked it in the boat, just a slight scratch. That scratch was enough to create a failure point in the rod...pop.
another great video please MORE VIDEOS!! good job, u inspire me to fish more and just have fun in life and turn a bad situation into a good one. anyways great video
the rod broke because you put your hand on the actual rod, sounds silly but the minute you take it off the cork you put extra pressure on the inside of the rod, a way how its not suppose to bend.
+Anthony Chiappetta if you look close he traps the line with the hand, what aggrave the problem. So the lesson for today: aways keep the hands on the grip and never traps the line.
haha!! liked the video, Marty!! And I like your philosophy..same as mine..go fishing when things go crazy..lol. And people wonder why I have so many rods..lol
Hey Marty! I landed a 15lb Catfish on a ultralite, ugly stik with 4lb line!! I was like whaaaa?? Ive had 3 ugly stiks and the have done well for me! Happy Fishing!
man that suks wen u break a rod, that's why i was happy to see u start out with the ugly stick. i have the 7' one n i have folded it in half where the tip was touching the bail on my reel trying to bring in a 4' black tip shark. never hesitated for a second thinking it might break. still have and still catching fish as much as possible. thanx for the video!
love your videos man cheers from michigan, gotta go back to Florida and try my hand at salt water fishing again, usually on a trip ill try my best to fish a few times at least, over the years i've gotten a couple red snapper, a flounder, some catfish, and a king fish.
I broke one of my fav rods once too. I couldn't just get rid of it so what I did was chopped it down all the way to the first guide from bottom to tip and left that big guide on. And now what it's intended for is to help me spool my reels with new line. It helps a lot and all my smaller reels attach to it. Instead of attaching the reel to the big rod I put it on the broken one and it's easier spooling line indoors. Like that you won't slam your rod tip on the fan and have it snap, which has happened to me before lol
The original Ugly Stik, Ugly Stik GX2, or Rhino rod are all on sale at Walmart. I've had success with all of them and they give great action from Mangrove snappers, Jacks, Snooks, and etc... I usually take the guides off broken fishing rods, they are handy if you need one in a pinch. When you were fishing alongside the bridge piling, you could use a pool noodle as a boat fender of sorts in place of your foot.
+zoffinger hi, I'm from South Africa. am loving your channel , I have learnt so much by watching most of your uploads. Really love the show and idolise what you do. can't wait for the next upload.
Go figure, would you believe I snapped my 7 ft medium action Ugly Stick on a Jack Crevalle. I just love how hard those fish fight, even if it costed me a very good rod! Great video as usual.
I've used that for probably the last 20+ years for salmon roe/ eggs for king salmon in the fall harbors up and down the great lakes. I've also put little Styrofoam colored little balls in each sack. single, sharp, hook into the bait and a split shot about 24" up. Of the times right, it's deadly.
Man thanks for this video,. Ever since the video of you catching Sheepshead with barnacles, I wanted to try crushing the barnacles and adding them to stockings and sliping a hook through it and seeing if that method would work. Well seeing is beliving and my next fishing trip I will try this with barnacles and oysters. My wife is gonna be mad at me for the holes coming soon to her stockings. LOL
"don't let life get you down... but if it does, just go fishin!"
