  • Leaking valves and seals dribbling all over your floor and ruining your Hoover or Vax carpet cleaner? Easily and inexpensively replace these valves in just a few moments.
    Left unfixed, the bearings in the brush motor will rust and seize, stopping the brushes from turning. If that happens, see my video on replacing the bearing here: • SteamVac / Vax Brushes...
    The valves are available from Amazon: amzn.to/3YWzJoC
    If your hot water tank is cracked and leaking from the tank itself, see "Repair cracked and leaking Hoover SteamVac / Vax hot water tank. Permanent, inexpensive fix, easy to do." • Repair cracked, leakin...

      That's a good idea. At some point parts might become difficult to find for these older machines, so it never hurts to have spares.

    My Hoover® Power Scrub Elite Carpet Cleaner does NOT dispense water after 3rd use. I have had it 3 weeks. I use it weekly. Last week, I noticed hardly any water coming out of clean water tank, so I just poured warm clean water onto carpet to clean it. The suction is great. However took forever to do it this way. This morning, I took the basics apart and checked everything (I am owner of HOOVER steam cleaner for over 20 years) Never had this problem in older models. Glad I kept my recent last model. Anyway, I have 1 week left before warranty expires. (3/21/21). Here is What I discovered, that is wrong--I think. The tank that holds clean water, on bottom, with valve button, works great. However the valve button on Steam Cleaner that the clean water tank seats onto, has no give, while pulling or holding onto trigger. It is like solid frozen. To me it seems it should do something, while I am pulling on trigger w/o the clean tank sitting there. What do you think? Brigitte in Tulsa Oklahoma

      Hi Brigitte. I know nothing about the newer machines and since I am so disappointed with Hoover's lack of response to ongoing, well known flaws in their cleaners, I will never buy a new one. Overall, they clean really well, but ONLY when they are working! It seems like the various engineers do not work together or even communicate with each other when designing their machines. Some parts work exceptionally well, while others fail almost immediately after the warranty expires!
      With that said, it sounds like a defect on your new cleaner. Rather than try to fix it, I would definitely use the warranty while it is still valid. I'd also take a video of the problem so if it happens again after the warranty expires, you can prove it failed almost right out of the box.
      I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but you shouldn't have to be fixing a 3 week old machine!

      @@UnchartedDIY ,,, Thank you ☺️ for quick reply. Appreciate it. Plus I agree with everything you said. You are so correct. It’s really sad they make their products so cheaply. I replace mine every year, because they Do Not last. However 3 weeks isn’t good at all. I requested refund through Amazon today. Thank you😃.

      Mine did too, so I replaced them both while I was doing the job. Check to see if it is running down from the soap tank - if so, this will fix it.

    Where did you order the new valves from and the part number?

    • @UnchartedDIY
      @UnchartedDIY  Před 4 lety

      The part number I purchased was 43513016. The Amazon link is on my website in "Project Resources" near the bottom of the page: uncharteddiy.com/hoover-steamvac-valves-leak/ but they appear to be currently unavailable. There may be others on Amazon, but be careful to not pay too much. I think mine were about $20 for a two pack.
      I originally came across quite a few other sites that also sell SteamVac replacement valves so you can probably find them elsewhere faster. It's worth it to find them since it's such an easy job and avoids a whole bunch of frustration!

    I don't see much leaking after filling but when I attach the full tank onto the unit it leaks pretty bad opposite side as the solution tank. Any insights?

    • @UnchartedDIY
      @UnchartedDIY  Před 2 měsíci +1

      If you replaced the valves on both sides, I'd check to make sure the detergent bottle valve is lined up on the same level with the valve on the hot water tank. The detergent bottle is glued onto the hot water tank, so if it sits too high or too low, one valve may seat properly while the other is still sitting too loosely.
      Also, check the connections where the valves "plug in" to make sure there is no debris in the seat. I hope that makes sense, and I'd love to know what you find.

  • @chrisj645

    So what was wrong w/ the other one? Why was it leaking?

    • @UnchartedDIY
      @UnchartedDIY  Před 3 lety

      Great question, and thanks for asking, Chris. I think it's a combination of the spring weakening and the rubber hardening with age.

  • @rdhawk777
    @rdhawk777 Před 5 dny

    Are all the gaskets the same on hoover steam vacs? I think that is what is wrong with mine but when I took the hot water solution tank off there was a loose black plastic piece with spring on it laying there too. Is this more then a gasket problem?

    • @UnchartedDIY
      @UnchartedDIY  Před 5 dny

      I don't know if they are all the same, but mine had rubber gaskets with a spring valve. If that plastic piece you found has the cross shape like the thumbnail image for my video, I would guess that's the inner part of the valve. If it is, you might be able to reinsert it. If not, the valve(s) probably need replacing.

    • @rdhawk777
      @rdhawk777 Před 4 dny

      @@UnchartedDIY The plastic piece is about 1" long notched at one end ,and with what appears to be a small rubber thick washer with a double forkish type end. I wish there was a way to send a pic here.

    • @rdhawk777
      @rdhawk777 Před 4 dny

      It also had a half inch spring on it's shaft

    • @UnchartedDIY
      @UnchartedDIY  Před 3 dny

      @@rdhawk777 I wish there was a way to post pictures too. From what you are describing, it sure sounds like a hot water or detergent tank valve. It might look different than the one that was on mine.
      I suggest finding your model number. I think it will be on the handle, either the back of it or behind the water tank. Look for replacement valves for that model and see if they look something like yours, keeping in mind that yours has probably come apart.
      I'd love it if you'd let me and the viewers that read these comments know what you find out. It might help other people since I'm only familiar with my model SteamVac 👍

    • @UnchartedDIY
      @UnchartedDIY  Před 3 lety

      Ed, it is an old tank, but a new one costs almost as much as a whole new machine. Hoover doesn't even offer a discount for an obvious flaw in the choice of plastics they made. Many, many people had their tanks fail immediately AFTER the warranty! They should offer the replacements for free, but they refuse to acknowledge there's a problem.
