I don't know if they are all the same, but mine had rubber gaskets with a spring valve. If that plastic piece you found has the cross shape like the thumbnail image for my video, I would guess that's the inner part of the valve. If it is, you might be able to reinsert it. If not, the valve(s) probably need replacing.

@@UnchartedDIY The plastic piece is about 1" long notched at one end ,and with what appears to be a small rubber thick washer with a double forkish type end. I wish there was a way to send a pic here.

@@rdhawk777 I wish there was a way to post pictures too. From what you are describing, it sure sounds like a hot water or detergent tank valve. It might look different than the one that was on mine. I suggest finding your model number. I think it will be on the handle, either the back of it or behind the water tank. Look for replacement valves for that model and see if they look something like yours, keeping in mind that yours has probably come apart. I'd love it if you'd let me and the viewers that read these comments know what you find out. It might help other people since I'm only familiar with my model SteamVac 👍

Thanks! I have no experience with the Mastercool coolers, but I think they all work basically the same. I agree with you that preventative maintenance could make your new cooler last a very long time. For the thickness concern, the Gorilla tape is about 1/16 of an inch thick, and in some areas there will be overlap. The Flex Seal is pretty thin. I think planning for about 3/16" for the tape/sealant combo would be a worst-case scenario, and I doubt that would be enough to affect anything. But to make sure, with the cooler drained, you could try putting some thicker cardboard under the parts to see if that thickness would change anything. As for warranty, I have never tried to peel the tape and Flex Seal off, but it might leave residue and could be reason for them to reject any claim. Just to be safe, I would wait until the warranty period is over before making a change that might not be easily reversed. I am confident there is no a hurry. After all, mine took over 20 years to look how it did in the video 🙂 Finally, I think the using a purge/bleeder adapter (or a pump with one built in) is an excellent idea since it will keep the water much fresher - good for the cooler AND for you! Calcium scale buildup can be an issue, so I'd also recommend using some descaler on occasion. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

That is a really great question, and thank you for thinking of it! I was curious about that too, so I did an unscientific test with my inexpensive anemometer while the machine was running. I couldn't see a difference in wind speed with the soffit cover on or off, and at various speeds. I suspect its large surface area combined with the low static pressure from the exhaust makes any potential obstruction statistically insignificant. I just wish I had thought to put that information in the video 😀

Great catch! I actually did add a thin coat of synthetic grease to my gears. I was concerned that too much might create drag on the turbine. I should have mentioned adding the grease in the video.

There is a raised circular area on top of the battery when it is disconnected from the washer. The rubber cover for the USB-C port is located there.

That is a very helpful tactic, especially since we really like our squirrels too. It's a win win! In our case, a few of the craftier squirrels were bypassing their food in favor of the expensive suet cakes. The problem was that those squirrels would eat a block of suet in hours. Thus, my umbrella idea was born! 😄Now, the squirrels are happy with their own food and the birds actually have a chance to eat their suet 👍

My use of a cheap mic is probably a factor as well. Please let me know how it goes with a serious mic!

I haven't measured it with a decibel meter, but it is pretty loud. I'd compare it to a pancake air compressor. You can have a conversation near it when it's running, but you'll have to raise your voice.

Thanks, Brian. The solid part of a hose clamp is folded in two and wrapped around the eyebolt. The ends have a hole drilled in them so that it fits into the saw chuck exactly like a blade would. Have fun building and using your shaker table!

It sounds like you have a nice solution. Distance makes a huge difference. Just a suggestion though if you put it in the garage - since you won't hear it, make sure to remember to turn it off in the morning 😁

It doesn't shut off, but it does cycle from AC to fan and back to AC and fan again. It does this to keep the temperature in the room within a few degrees, and acts just like a furnace thermostat. There's a big difference in the sound it makes between the two modes. Is this what you are asking?

Yeah thank you. My current ac can’t keep up with the heat so it switches to fan mode when it can’t reach the temperature I set (basically just consuming electricity without cooling my room). Looking forward to trying this ac unit hopefully it successfully cools my room.

I can tell you that once you have calipers, you'll wonder how you ever got anything done without them 😁

It sounds like a bearing (or two) is seized. But before digging into it, make sure to check the brushes for hair wrapped around them, and check the screen filter too. I'd love to know how it turns out!

⁠I ordered some of the saw blades today. Your explanations were clear without being so long I’d lose interest. I bought a bed frame that didn’t come shorter but it had some features I liked. Now I’d like to shorten it. What you did (exposing) isn’t easy so kudos.

Glad it helped. Cutting metal that thick may be too much for the blade I showed, so start off with light pressure and take your time. If it dulls the blade quickly, you might be better off using a cut off wheel or disc. They are a bit messy so try to work outside and wear a mask or respirator. I'd love to know how it goes!

Just my follow up…..I think I’m going to have to try an alternative strategy. I finally received the saw blades yesterday and I didn’t have a manual for my dw705 compound miter saw so I got one. Of course it says not to cut ferrous metals but I disconnected the safety and put the saw blade in….i cannot figure out a way to safely connect a “jig” to the fence. There aren’t any holes in the fence and clamping doesn’t seem to be holding (could be the quick clamps) but there aren’t really flat surfaces to clamp to or my clamps aren’t deep enough. I’m also not used to the sparks 😅 but the bigger thing is securely and consistently securing the pieces. It might even be easier to create a jig using a metal square and insert the blade in a circular saw. Think I’ll think about it. Really appreciated the video anyway. Like to noodle these things through.

For such thick steel, I'm thinking that renting a dedicated abrasive cut-off saw might be a good choice. They come with a clamping rig built in, and I think you would make quick work of your project. At my local rental place, they run $33 for 24 hours. ​@UnchartedDIY so I opened brand new one and there was shit tons of grease on those white gears and from it, little bit on bottom bearing. I still add some lubricant/preservation regardless on both of the bearings.

That's a good idea, and watch out for sustained leaks so the water doesn't get into those bearings in the first place.

Since then I've been using Armor All Ultra Shine, and find it works much better than the Dawn did. That tar coating from Dial works well. But I'm not convinced that it doesn't leach petroleum particulates into the water that is then pumped into the house, aggravating respiratory issues that one of us has. I checked out Flex Seal and it's completely inert when cured. Just being cautious. The Rust-Oleum solves a lot of rust issues, especially when treated with Rust Restorer first. There are other brands, but I don't have hands-on experience with them.

If you try the Flex Seal and Rust Restorer, or you find something else that works, I'd love to hear what you think of it. We can all learn from each other's insights 👍

If your rust is really bad, I'd use Rustoleum Rust Reformer before spraying a top coat. It can be applied directly onto rust and basically bonds with the rust and seals it. I would then use a rust preventative spray paint, such as Rustoleum Stops Rust. There are colors that are pretty close to the factory color, but with fading, I'd plan to spray the whole outside surfaces so the color is uniform.

The compost can reach temps of around 120F to 160F (49C to 71C), and it can take from 3 to 6 months. The time frame is dependent on what the materials are, the balance between green (nitrogen-rich) and brown (carbon-rich) materials, amount of moisture, and frequency of turning the tumbler. Ours seems to be closer to the 3 month time frame in the summer, and closer to 5 months in the winter. As for insulation, I do think it would speed things up and keep the temperatures more consistent. Higher and more consistent temps helps break down the organic material faster. However, it is important to not block any of the air holes and vents, since the microbes need oxygen to do their work. I'd love to hear how you insulate and what kind of results you see. I suspect the trigger switch or a solenoid is to blame, but since I haven't had to deal with that problem yet, I can't give specific advice. If you have a multimeter, you might be able to track the problem down. I know it sounds crazy, but if you can't get it to work you could mix your hot water and carpet detergent in a pressure sprayer that you pump up by hand. Spray it on a section of carpet and then vacuum it up with the carpet cleaner. A bit of a pain, but you could still keep using your machine! In case you don't know what kind of sprayer, here's an Amazon link to show you what I'm talking about: amzn.to/3V5RgLu Make sure it has an adjustable nozzle so you can control the spray pattern. I would use the same moderate temperature that you would put in the cleaner's tank, and you don't need to pump up a bunch of pressure to spray the carpet. From trying to reverse engineer it, I can tell when pushed by hand, the valves go up a reasonable amount so presumably the trigger should pull those pins up on the machines upper tank base when pressed. I think that's how they work. I wonder if you might just have a bad valve? You could try switching the water and detergent tank valves to see if it is a valve, otherwise it is probably the switch. Also, check the plastic base of the water tank to see if the glue that holds it to the water tank might have come loose and allowed the tank to sit too high, preventing the valve from opening.

Used it on my car and on the 4th tire when I started I heard something inside snapped off and started to rattle badly. I have no idea how to open it to check unfortunately.
