Am I the only one that thinks that that bird is answering her or us? I feel like everything she says the bird is like yup, yup, yup.... lol! đŠ
Adorable! !
hahaha yesss!!! I had the same feeling... soo adorable!
I hate people who do that in conversations, but I love it when the bird does it đ
Yes.. and as far as he's concerned, he's communicating with her. This is part of "Bird Talk"... and they need this type of interaction daily.
hey ,if anyone else needs to find out about how to teach a parrot to talk try Pycanta Parrot Tips Protocol (just google it ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.
Comet's occasional squawks throughout are awesome
He is like "yep, exactly, mhm, yep, yep"
Anna M Iâm glad someone else mentioned it , it kept making me giggle :)
Comet is my favorite đđ don't tell the other birdies!!
Comet is so cute
This was so interesting to watch. I never would have thought of asking other animal trainers for advice as I kind of assumed all animals would be different. Although I would have thought that one of the hardest animals to train would be a cat as they make their own rules lol!
Hilarious! So true!
I love your channel and what you do. I pray to see my sweet boys free fly one day. Iâm terrified because I lost a sun Conure when he got out. But I agree thereâs nothing more beautiful than a flighted bird. I live off a busy highway and Iâve started working on desensitizing. Both of my boys are clipped right now. I purchased my sun Conure as a baby in May. The breeder clipped him. My umbrella cockatoo is adopted. Heâs 13 years old and also clipped. I pray to see them both spread their beautiful wings and fly one day. Thanks for all you do
The little "err" sound that the bird makes is music to my ears
So glad you made this video. really interesting. i have been a long term follower (a good 8 years plus) and started watching your video's whilst I spent 10 years deciding if I should / could take on a parrot (always had cockatiels / budgies and kakarikis before). Once I watched enough of your videos I decided I wanted one but looking into the proper adoption process here in the UK it's a very convaluted process that presented more issues than it would solve, then a friend of a friend contacted me with and African Grey (baby) who he could no longer keep (due toa disability). Long story short. baby is now very happy with me. so thank you for your video's. If your channel didnt exist I probably wouldnt have rehomed a parrot. now my wife wants a galah. lol
I am currently working on training my horse and it's so interesting seeing the perspective of other animal communities coming from a community where R- and P+ is the norm and R+ is seen as very atypical. It continues to motivate me being able to see people who go, "wait, how do you even ask for that without a reinforcer?" that using R+ with ANY animal is a wonderful option. So glad you mention that you explored other communities.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us!
Congratulations! !! Great couple. ..the most important thing is that you enjoy what you are doing...it is more than a job is, is a way of life.
I love love love comets âside comments âlike he is agreeing with you. And how he is just adding his input sooo cute! He is adorable!
Jamie, you and your family are amazing!! â€â€â€
Comet is the perfect co host. He chimed in quietly and payed attention to Jamie his host. I watched this video twice because I missed a lot watching Comet.
You were married at only 17 years old??? That's young!
Wonderful that you have your 3 Macaws back with you Jamieleigh and I'm so proud of you and I love you so much. âșđđâ€â€â€â€â€đđđđđ
You donât look a day over twenty and Iâm blown away â€ïžâ€ïž
Man, this is so inspiring to me. I've been continually watching so many of your videos, and I'm really getting into this. I really want to take your advice and get into some training...thanks so much for the videos and doing what you do..I've had a really hard life up to a year and a half ago. I overcame a decade-long drug addiction and have ptsd...but animals really help. I've trained dogs and am a groomer, but I've always wanted to connect with birds (and also monkeys & apes, but thats someone else's expertise) so thanks for being an inspiration.
Fully agree that a bird should always should be able to fly
Saw your note about Comet. He was a great buddy during your video. Thanks for sharing your path to becoming a trainer.
Can you please do a video about wing clipping, I know you didnât want to get too far into in this video but as a new bird owner Iâd love to hear more about it
Love your channel, and apparently my bird too he screams when he sees you and gets all exited.
My cat, who is usually aloof, comes over and sits near me when he hears her voice cajoling and praising the birds she's working with. She's a trust, bond builder without even intending it!
Love this video, shows so much of your true spirit and what motivates you!. The photos with the hyacinth macaw are just beautiful. Much love and respect!!
Your story is such a beautiful journey! I love watching and learning how to not only train but to bond and love my bird in a way thatâs enriching for us both and not just myselfâ€ïž Love You!
Thank you and Dave for doing what you do and teaching people how to work with birds. Patience is the biggest asset and virtue.
I stumbled across your channel 2 days into having my very first bird. I've been watching all your videos and am completely inspired by your work and training with all your birds. I hope to develop a bond like that with my little nameless nanday conure and eventually work on flight training. This video right here is what convinced me that I can and should train my bird essentially starting to be a bird trainer myself. Thank you for your inspiration and giving me the confidence to try! Today we start with a "true" step up!
Brilliant video, thank you Jamie leigh. Helpful yet again for people.
Wow 17 is so young. I am glad you guys are a happy couple and make a difference in every bird life you touch.
Thanks jamie for doing this vid was so nice to watch
I have just acquired two Green Cheek Conures from a local bird shop. Their wings were clipped and was planning to keep them clipped. However, after watching a number of CZcams videos, you have changed my mind. Once their flight feathers grow back, Pine and Turk become flighted birds. I have learned much from your CZcams videos. Thank you
you and dave were meant to be. thank you both for showing and teaching us your knowledge in your journey
Jamie, I love your training philosophy and the relationship you build with your birds. I've been a big fan of yours. You have natural instincts and the sensitivity that parrots thrive on:) As someone who understands the tragedy of the pet bird trade and the millions of homeless parrots who languish in sanctuaries, I was saddened when you spoke about not adopting and not rescuing. I understand that you had a painful experience with an adoption not fitting into your lifestyle, however, one bad experience does not mean rescues are a bad decision. I hope your viewers will always opt for adoption and rescue. Some of the most amazing parrots are rescues. Please champion for homeless parrots. They need you.
The Parrots Voice it wasnât just one, it has been many - luckily we didnât lose any but we came close twice and that was enough for me. Iâll make sure the adoption message is heard loud and clear from this point, didnât realize how it may have came off. Itâs just not suited for my current lifestyle that has been such for 14 + years. Thanks for your comment đđŒđ
One of your best video! As a retired teacher, so much of this applies to working with children too, like random rewarding. I've only had dogs, but birds are sure looking interesting.
Because of you guys, I got inspired to get a bird and fell in love and found out I was GREAT with them. Birds that are aggressive with everyone else, loved me the first time I met them. Now because of that I want to be a trainer and a aviary vet, since there aren't many around me and I have the chance to work with them and love them. Thank you!
Loved the video, keep it up!
Thank you so much, I just loved hearing your story and how all this came about. Experiences in life shape each person so much, this is really helpful to know that you guys had difficulties as well as so much success. I know I am only a cockatiel owner with a clipped 6 year old girl. But because of you specifically we have started touch training. It has been a few months, but she is getting it. It is my fault we are not doing more with it. We completely changed her diet and Nemo's whole personality is changing too. Right now I am working on getting her to eat your Summer chop from your book, One day, I would love to free fly, but Nemo probably won't be the bird. I love how Comet is actively listening to you the whole video. Thank you, Maren
You are awesome! Loved this video. You have a heart of gold.
This is awesome you have so much to your story. Becoming an animal trainer is the BIGGEST dream of mine and I LOVE this video. You are such an inspiration and my role model â€â€â€
I have only had dogs, yet I am so enthralled with your videos!!!
Love this video! I noticed the parrot scooting closer to you, and lifting his foot asking to be held- then scooting away and fluffing his feathers because his offer wasn't accepted or even acknowledged... Him saying, 'Im offended, don't you love me anymore?' SOOOO CUTE!
Mm comet is the handsomest
Loved the show & demo
Another Great video Jamieđ!!
Love this - so much detail. Thanks
Im planning on starting a parrot rescue in the future.. I've been following you for a while, and I really want to work with and create some sort of Bond to each one.. So please never stop making these educating videos! And if you are ever in Denmark please let me know! I want to learn everyting!
Aw Comet is so cute!! I love his floofiness and little squawks. đ
I love how even in this video where the point is to just talk about herself and her life, she still can't help but compliment her students and her birds and give us a ton of advice when it isn't even an advice video. That mentor mindset has become ingrained!
This was a super helpful video. :) Thanks!
I think you are amazing! Thank you for all that you do. You love the birds.
Your ideas are the best, I learn so much from you, don't know what I would have done without these helpful videos!! Thanx I do take my bird outside with a harness, he is getting used to it and loves to be outside.
Love this video!
I Volunteer at a local bird rescue , Iâm going on my two year mark , itâs had definitely been an a experience, â€ïž
I'm a new subscriber. I got a young cockatiel in February and she's great! I'm not! So, I'm glad, we're glad that I found your channel. We're learning!
Neat video! Thank you
Thank you! Didnât have time to watch this till today. Love the channel. Iâve only had parakeets so far and since March this year a cockatiel. Hoping to get a salmon crested cockatoo in the future ;)
Thanks for answering my request of how you became a bird trainer!
Thank you for your videos. My sister had two green wing macaws that were badly socialized and aggressive. She and her husband left them with me for a year and I had a bad experience so in a way it's good for me to see them being happy and loved. My sister's female got mad at me for having to take an egg out of their cage (she had asked me to) and went after my face. I had major plastic surgery and still have a scar that runs from my forehead to my top lip. It's weird, I miss them still, though so it's nice to see your birds. =)
You have great smile and beautiful family u have . Iâm very proud that I found your Chanel
Floofy Comet
Great to hear your story
Great input!
I'm so mesmerized!! I want to learn so bad :))
OHH love this thank you!!!
A series of Capri training Blueberry is really what I need lol
LOVE what you said at 22 minutes. When people question my positive force free training methods with dogs I usually talk about big cat and whales and how those animals cant be forced but they get amazing results with force free training.
I second this. Force training works on animals who wonât defend themselves against their owners like domestic dogs. Try putting an aversive tool on an animal that can and will kill you if need be and see how smoothly that goes.
I have to agree, there is nothing more beautiful then a bird in flight
Really enjoyed the video and ALL the many pictures. I would think it would help to have couple people train a bird that way when it goes home to its "parent(s)" it would be easier for them to take over. But then again, I'm not a trainer - so just my thoughts. Again - ENJOYED!
I wish that I could free~flight my flock, but we live pretty high up here in the mountains and have very large and very aggressive birds of prey.... we got our first snow fall of three inches yesterday after it being in the 60's the day before. It was like watching a huge pillow fight... with that being said, we are installing a new wood burning stove in our home today, and I was wondering if you could give some advice to bird owners regarding fireplace safety, and winterizing for your flock in general in a future video perhaps? We're so happy that you became a confident and "slow and steady" type of bird trainer, because we have learned so much from your style of training and thus, have really special bonds with our flock because of you. ~*â*~
Did you say you were in Saipan? Thatâs where Iâm from and we have three birds at where I work and I wanna learn as much as I can about birds to help our birds. I love the idea of âwalkingâ the birds!!! Awww I am sooo inspired to learn as much as I can from you. PS. I love your toucan series!!! Theyâre such a unique bird that I can see myself loving!!! You totally inspire me!
god bless you both stay safe guys and kiss your wonderful daughter for me so satisfied when watching your vids and love your positivity keep it up you all complete each other
I had a conversation with a friend about birds like Macaws for example. He said they are very loud. And this seemed to be a common opinion. But in all your videos they seemed to be very quiet. Can you tell something about the noise they make? Just a few words. --- And this is a great video. Thank you for the inside views and some biographical things about you, the birds and your career.
She has a video on training her birds not to scream!
Wonderful. Big like. Thumbs up. đđđđđđ
Your awesome
I'm so curious now how your husband & brother decided to start their website and the show. Did they have an interest in both, did he want to do shows and that's why he got birds or loved & saw how good he was with birds then the shows. Did you meet him then get in the show, did you develop that idea together since you were so young? So many questions after watching the video, lol. I just think what you guys do is awesome and I'm sure the shared love of what you do, doing it together will show that just because you marry young, doesn't necessarily mean it isn't going to work or a mistake. What you all do is amazing.
Lastly, I notice in so many still shots of you free flying birds, after the take off you have a posture like a human that would want to fly. Maybe just the way you let them go or on purpose but remembering you saying how they are the only animals that can do it and how amazing it is, why wouldn't you want them to fly, those photos just look like you don't just say it. You clearly feel that with your total being and it's awesome!!
OH MY GOD I freaked out when you said you were on Saipan, I'm from there! I wish I could have seen your show! Around what year was that?
What a beautiful relationship đ
Working with an Alexandrine and an Amazon - wow. God bless you.
This was very entertaining, I have never had a bird but love macaws and looking into EVERYTHING birds (Evan though I know macaws are not starter birds I still love everything they do and how they are itâs really annoying though cos Iâm 12 and I want to work at a rescue or train a bird any thing around them but I think you have to be at least 16+
Well hello there Jamie and I hope your birds doing alright so far on their own. âșđđđđđ
I love all your videos, they are all so helpful! Thank you for everything you do! If I adopted an older bird (maybe 30 or 40+ years old), is it still possible to free flight train it?
McKenna Fugett it might be harder but still very possible!
In Chicago and I really want to raise a macaw I know that for a first large bird I'm biting off more than I chew here but I'm really passionate about rescuing a large bird in the future I just visited a local website here in Chicago and the conditions some of these birds is very sad so I guess my question is how do I start getting myself and my home prepared for a forever companion like a macaw
After watching this video, I know I'm definitely ready to start training unicorns. For Sure. I'm Positive. Hot and Ready To Go.
Wow, Im surprised you struggled moving to macaws. I was so used to my nippy (we did fix that LONG before he passed) love bird, it was a freaking joy to hold a parrot that doesnt bite to say "i just wanted you to know I love you" lol. It is frightening when you see that beak though...I almost screwed up with an amazon at the pet shop that was a rescue (which I didnt know at first lol, just that he hated hands) they hadn't had time to work with. I was using "Step up?" as a way to evaluate our trust level and oops... good thing I pulled my arm away when I saw he was ready to HANG with nobody in the shop that could get him off me! I was just shocked at how much lovebird body language translated over into a larger, smarter parrot, but if the beak freaks you out, the parrots freaked out that your freaked out...crap cycle lol.
Mine were only clipped as babies and then they grew out and i never clipped them again bc they know the layout of our home. Two of mine my tiel and conure also got out and thank god i always took them out side and in carriers and harness bc i got them both back. My conure within 15 mjns bc well he was a conure and they are into everyrhing. My tiel flew to my roof and once i called him and flapped my arms while making wind noises then he flew down and around a circle and into my husbands arms. Thats how i get him to come. He couldnt fly at first bc the breeder cut his wings to short and it took months for him i be able to fly. Hes a yr old in nov and he just started flying two months ago. Hes doing amazing.
There is a big difference between a parrot trainer and a parrot whisperer.
Saw the notification and I was like yeah a video so I put it on and then went upstairs to go say hi to my partakes but noticed they were strangely quiet I look in the cage and one is lying on the floor dead
Oh my god! I'm soo sorry! Were you able to figure out what exactly had happened?
Sounds like comet has the hiccups lol
Muito bom đ
You're so pretty God bless you always from your big fan and we love you good job
I would so LOVE for you guys to free flight my birds ! I have 2 cockatiels and an Indain ringneck!
I trained my cat to come to sniff my index finger when I point it at her. Just frustrated because Iâ m too old to get a bird and donât have the free time needed to give the attention they need, but I am addicted to parrot channelsđ
Hey I agree with your "training" I just called it discipline/love just as you would teach a child you teach a bird. {my thoughts} I started when I was young I had many parrots my favorite was Jake a Blue front amazon. I picked Jake out as an egg. when He was ready to leave the nest I hand fed and reared him. He was amazing{I still pray for him} My husband sold him {without my knowledge for some dope} He was Three VERY verbal and so loving.
The one thing I ALWAYS teach ALL flighted birds is that kitchens are a NO-NO!!!! I did this because I had several bird parents end up with serious injuries due to their birds flying into the kitchen and "landing on inappropriate things, twice causing death.
I found that birds are VERY smart and if you can teach dogs, cats, and kids you CAN teach a bird where and where not to go.
Just something I learned in thirty some years.
God Bless
I wanted to ask, Iâm planning on freeflight training my 14 week old blue and gold macaw, which Iâve never done before. Iâve looked at many courses and videos and articles, some say to use a harness, some say to not use a harness, etc. since mine is still young, should I bother with using a harness or start the recall etc training without one (when I start on the outdoor recall after getting the indoor recall perfect)?
Opinion on the training/keeping of corvids? I've always wanted to keep a Raven.
Look into Peter Caine. He's harsh, but definitely educational. He has a raven named Sam.
Ok so I have a parotlet as my starter bird but I am really looking into getting a glah to train for freefligt for fun and for a companion so I am teaching myself and learning from my mistake from my parotlet, sky and she won't fly to my hand, only to my head.....any tips?
My green check conure says fark off, common woogee, and hello call.
Can you discuss diet? I have visited my 4 1/2 month old Macaw to bring home in a month.
Hello I work at an animal sanctuary in east Texas. We recently took in a Blue and Gold Macaw as the original owner could not care for her anymore. She is 23 years old and has bonded with me. She is staying inside at night and we have an outdoor enclosure she stays in weather permitting. With the colder months upon us, she now stays with me full time until the weather is warmer. She has aggressive behavior sometimes. Biting at me and such. I have been trying to get her to get on a perch so I can move her into her travel cage so when the weather is warm she can ride with me to work hang out in the enclosure during the day and then return home at night. I have had challenges getting her to perform these behaviors. Now I am a total beginner when it comes to birds. What videos would you recommend for me to learn myself what to do and be able to get the desired response. Thank you for your time.
The picture you had on 3:40 is that when you guys were at the crew ship or at sandcastle saipan? I think you guys performed there once a long time ago or maybe I was mistaken. Anyway love your videos
That is from Sandcastle Saipan! đ
@@BirdTricks I knew those costumes look familiar lol đ
I would like to talk about about an idea that could become a very big project. This involves training birds.
DVD QUN yah what?
What happened to Linus? Is it harder to flight train a Cockatoo?
I've totally enjoyed all your videos, yet I don't know how to "make" my bird just sit on a perch for any length of time, like you do. ??
How would I flight train? Would I start trying to encourage the bird to fly from and to perches and other places and then try bringing them outside? Iâve never hand trained a bird before and I am kind of planning to get a green cheek conure, and flight training is something I would like to do with him.
