    - To get a clear step up
    - To ensure your energy is clean before working with any animal
    - To work past the lack of being food motivated (we were able to find the right treat instead, which in this case was apple!)

Since we have a single jenday, I hate making chop and keeping in fridge because I always waste a bunch . I’ve been making a large batch, once a month and freeze in ice cube trays. I’ll take one out at night and leave in fridge so it’s thawed for my husband to give him in the morning (since I work very early)
It has worked out great for us ! And Sven is an awesome name!

Thank you so so much for sharing this video. I take care of 7 rescue parrots where I work, which are 2 blue & gold macaw, one military macaw, one Amazon, a umbrella cockatoo, a Moluccan Cockatoo and a Mobrella cockatoo. The female blue & gold has gotten attached to me very much so but I also have been trying to figure out how to get her to get off of my shoulder when she does get on my shoulder because it is a real task. She has very many habits that I have been trying to figure out how to break. Her habit that bothers me the most is when she starts scolding herself saying get out bad bird and she does this thing like she is angry by jerking her head like she is chopping at the air with her beak, all while continuing to scold saying various things over and over and making sure she adds we have a problem

For everyone watching these awesome videos, looking for the complete, in depth guides that BirdTricks provides, click the "SHOW MORE" link below the description. Super helpful!
20:04 Jamieleigh, I just wanted to personally thank you for clearing up the reason you and your husband decide to omit the more technical instructions concerning flight training, etc. I respectfully agree that BirdTricks wouldn't be responsible for anything I might do in ignorance, but sadly, without your explanation, there are some that might think that. They're silly people.
    You're very professional and honest.
As for the tips you DO give us, I should like to point out that, at 17:44, I can just barely hear Dave whisper, "I know I don't know how to explain it."
Within a matter of seconds, you slid in and corrected the issue, and the gentleman repeatedly succeeded with the step up. 18:48 Dave's giving you the ^5. Hah. You two do such a wonderful job together!
These FREE videos that you three, I had to include Capri, share with us, might give us lucky viewers an equally educational, albeit different guide about how important TEAMWORK is when living with other humans and our feathered friends.
    Again, thank you.

The diet was especially shocking, but I guess people find it hard to resist sharing when their bird sits nearby begging to try it or whatever? :0 it's good that they came to learn though! They're clearly more than willing to take on board what youre saying and are happy to scrap the mistakes of the past, or at least they seem to want to do that haha. So yay! Thanks for all your great videos......Really enjoy watching them. More importantly, our 18 yr. old Double Yellow Headed Amazon “Ares” loves watching them too. I’m sorry if I am asking a question you have been asked a million times (or done videos about). It’s time for Ares to get a new cage (main large cage). He has been in a very large dome style cage made by California Cage Co. for 10+ years. We were/are very happy with the build quality of the cage but they don’t seem to be made anymore. We will be replacing his main cage. He has others in different rooms to give him a change of environment from time to time. So, the million dollar question is who makes good, safe and quality cages these days. Looking online there are so many to choose from. If you read reviews it is amazing how cages can have so many good and bad reviews at the same time. Do you have any opinions you are willing to share on what cage companies you think make quality safe cages for Amazon parrots? Thank You. Bill

If you can't afford the book atm, rule of thumb is about 2-3 dark greens (broccoli, kale, spinach, etc), 2 orange veggies (carrot, sweet potato, squash, etc) and 1 or 2 other colors (beet, red peppers, turnip, radish, etc). I generally go for a 50/50 split of greens and other colors.

you should rarely need to demand a trained animal to do something. you can typically nicely ask and get a much better reaction.
horses, dogs and birds all just want to feel safe and un threatened.
treat em as an equal who needs guidance.

Can anyone explain what the 12 hours of sleep is based on? I thought wild birds went to sleep at sunset and rose at sunrise. In winter, that can easily be 12 hours, but during the summer, that's sometimes less than 8...

    • @esoteric9333
      @esoteric9333 Před 4 lety +2

The reason is that winter season. 8 hours signals to the bird it is summer, and they need to get on breeding asap! 12 hours makes them think it's the off season, so they are less likely to get hormonal and aggressive.

My sun conure came weaned on seeds and I knew that I have ta transfer her to pellets which I bought but I read the ingredients and it's just nuts and oils pressed together so I use them as treats but I need to know a good pellet in Australia as I cant get birdtricks one

Uh not sure what you can find in Australia but roudy bush and Harrison's ( I think? Harringtons? Pretty sure it's the former) are pretty good apparently. Not sure about any others that's all I can remember lol. Don't actually own a bird so! :P but as long as they're cold-pressed and not packed with artificial sugars, flavourings and colours, it should hopefully be ok?

Try TOP's sold by the Parrot Society or Roudybush.

Hi I’m having trouble keeping my birds sleep schedule to twelve hours because of our lifestyle. I would like to set up a small sleeping cage in another room but as he is not fully trained and it’s hard as I don’t want to ruin the training that I have done(he gives me kisses and touch training). I also can’t keep his cage in another room as he will not leave it and I think it’s important that he gets his interaction through watching us go about our daily lives? Do you have any suggestions, thanks

    • @Hdhsjajaj

I forgot to mention that I tried covering his cage but he freaks out and will cling to the cage side or to wherever he can see light

@@Hdhsjajaj you are going to have to get him used to having his cage covered. my rescue cockatiel was the same way he did not like being covered so slowly each night I would cover it a little bit more until he got used to it and now he's perfectly fine and gets a beautiful 12 hours of sleep like my other bird 🖤

I have a playlist on a bird named Rasta and I crate trained him from the beginning, I would recommend doing that where you start with treats and progress to feeding meals in there so he learns to associate it as a dinner and sleeper cage that you can move into an uninterrupted room where he can get the sleep he needs.
