I love how Mike popped up as almost every-other extra male character on the show before he became host lol
czcams.com/video/JD_U_4NGkdU/video.html
Joel really wanted to make sure Mike is the right guy for the job. I admire that.
Torgo bringing pizza was the best 😆
He was just eyeing out that top spot the whole time!
He ascended the same way Miles O'Brien did😂
I was plugging my charger into my phone when the vhs recording started losing its tracking at the start. I actually stopped for a second, thinking I was causing it.... Man, I'm fucking old...
+Sincado Haha yeah I was admiring those sweet sweet scanlines.
lol bro !
Your not alone..
You need to hit the tracking adjustment setting on your... Er... Um... Don't forget to rewind!
Hello from irradiated 2024. I did the EXACT same thing. I crawled into bed, plugged up the Android and the tracking went wonky. I had a brief moment of panic because this dang phone cost as much as my Camry... 😅
Ken : “ I don’t wanna die here in the middle of nowhere! ”.
Joel: “ I wanna die in the thong section of Victoria’s Secret! “.
That Joel plays a farmer that tells a Monsato representative to get off his land puts the show over the top for me
.
It's still relevant for today!
How long ago was this on the air, like 1987? Crazy to think Monsanto was a scam around back then even! Some things never change - "the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent", and sometimes longer than you can stay alive!
Why does he have chickens if he's a dairy farmer?
This show is so wonderful the social commentary the American pop culture references the more recent ones and the ones that even go back to fibber McGee and Molly
I wouldnt have even been able to tell that was Mike with a fake beard etc if it wasnt for his voice. Probably the best production value on the series to boot lol
I watched most of the Mike (as host) episodes first so going back and seeing how much he to do with the show, as an actor, writer, etc. Is so much fun.
Perkins, Torgo, the Scientist who keeps sayind, down, down, down.
A lot of the host segments would have been very different without Mike.
Joel may be the creator but the smartest inventors, always surround themselves with top men :) George Lucas is actually another great example.
Cheers from Canada

That robot is a comedy genius - just adore his sharp, dark humour which often reads my mind!
From Steven Stills song.
"You're crying on my bombs"
From Stephen Kills
Great riffs in the episode, but some of my laughs came straight from the movie itself. When she asks him if the cat got his tongue and he says "Shut up!," I lost it.
Here's your 10 cents worth of trivia.
Fugitive Alien and Fugitive Alien 2 were recut from the short lived Japanese TV series Star Wolf. There were only 24 episodes shown in 1978.
Star Wolf was produced by Tsuburaya, best known for producing the Ultraman shows and Lightning Superhero Gridman, which would be imported to US audiences as Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad.
Star Wolf was based on the works of a 1960's sci-fi writer, Edmond Hamilton. The books in the Star Wolf continuity are Weapon From Beyond, The Closed Worlds and World of the Starwolves.
murrfeeling I don't know whether to be impressed or startled by your in depth knowledge of this films origins
Before cable, you pretty much had to watch whatever was on.
Can't let you do that
That trivia is worth 20 cents, back home. On Valnistar.
Edward Hamilton also co-created the first Batwoman.
Ken is called Morgan Chane in the original novel trilogy.
It's been almost 30 years and I've seen this episode at least 100 times, and while this entire episode is gold, I still crack up every single time I hear Joel say "Did he say whopper? Is that a pet name?"
"An intriguing mix of genocide and modern dance."
"He tried to kill us with a forklift!"
Ole!
🎶
He thinks I'm a pallett 🤣🤣 love this episode who can't like puffy cheek captain joe and ever other ken lol
“He thinks I’m a pallet”, “tried to kill me with the forklift “ is so funny one of the best songs ever.
Great episode in my opinion 🇺🇸
That's song pops into my head while I'm brushing my teeth. Or on my way to work or walking up the stairs, it's awesome.
….Olay!!! Lol
That song was stuck in my head the other day. And here it is today. I had my roommate laughing when I broke out singing it out of nowhere.
It's always nice to see the old Mike cameos.
he makes a damn convincing Jack Perkins.
Your Icon makes me very hungry for donuts.
Fact: Perkins is a fan of MST3k and absolutely loves Mike's rendition of himself.
Nope!no Mike!LOL!
@@jlprizm y
24:40: That's high-tech how I like it: an analog meter with "Space Speed" written on it! How could you go wrong?
"All I know is he's 10 times as strong as we are..."
(but when it's convenient we can still knock him out with a single punch because reasons...)
Lol I know, like what made him think that?? All the cuts of Ken jumping stuff?
That just be 'one of them science facts', so just relax. :)
Monsanto joke, still relevant today
yeah i know i wasn't expecting such a relevant joke from 1991
Mike as Jack Perkins is always hilarious.
"Ken!?"
"Those bastards!"
Little did MST3K know that little Trey and Matt were watching that night!
I was gonna say no way... but this episode of MSt3K would've been 1991/1992 93 at the latest, and South Park started in 1997...
Same here. Did Parker and Stone ever say Kenny was some kind of crazy homage??
I'd say it's just a coincidence but then again, you never know with those guys!
They did make a musical, about cannibalism!!
Any super fans out there, feel free to solve this mini mistery ;)
Cheers from Canada
There's no relation between the two shows. The south park Xmas thing they made was done in 92, ok buddy?
Well MST3K and South Park were both on Comedy Central at different parts of the 90s!
The "buddy" was a South park riff, BTW. Wasn't trying to sound rude
This is one of my all time favorite episodes!
Everybody!
He tried to kill me with a forklift! Ole!
Kat
Mike was definitely the best actor of the mst3k staff. He's so good as Jack Perkins.
Mike totally fucks. He's fucking awesome.
@@aarondavis8943wow that escalated quickly lol I agree though Mike is definitely talented
@@Chill_Mode_JD silicon valley quote i assume lol
Whenever Mike Nelson is on screen he owns the show. Brilliant job as Jack Perkins.
The shot of Bacchus 3 flying over the building always makes me think of Star Fox 64's ending.
joel hodgeson is a genius dammit i miss this show
May not know but its coming back on Netflix.
Joel's even in the new one
That may be the understatement of the new millennium.
go woke go broke
"He was getting ready to shoot a little boy whose name just happened to also be Ken."
We've all been there/
"What I expect from you is total obedience!"
"If that's okay with you..."
The riffing in the episode is genius
Watching this episode, I can't help think of how much cardio and exercise the lead actor must have gotten during each take. Really strenuous role.
The whole "So... dinner?" gag was hilarious
"It's Frank Poole."
What an AWSOME reference. I live for riffs like that. All hail the bots. All hail mst3k.
WHO THE HELL IS SANDY FRANK ANYWAY? Well, this explains a lot: "Frank authorized new footage and hired writers to add dialogue to fit the look of the animation, without reference to original scripts"In April 1977 Frank attended the MIP-TV conference in Cannes. It was here Frank first encountered the Japanese animation Gatchaman from producer Tatsunoko Production run by the Yoshida brothers.[2] Frank committed to release the series in the U.S. after he saw the success of Star Wars in May 1977. Battle of the Planets is the title of American adaptation of this series created by Frank. .[6] Of the 105 original Gatchaman episodes, 85 were used in the Battle of the Planets adaptation produced by Sandy Frank Entertainment in 1978.Mystery Science Theater 3000Frank's company is also well known for its frequent appearances on Mystery Science Theater 3000, where some of the company's dubs of Japanese films were lampooned, including in a song titled "The Sandy Frank Song".[7]
Mike's delivery of "really, really, horribly old" absolutely slays me. 😂
"But how do I get aboard?"
"You go through the lumber yard. That's how you get a board."
gorillaau D'oh!
booooo
"That's it...make it look like a robbery" KILLS me - every time
Best line in the episode.
I always forget how hilarious this episode is. The jokes just keep coming. The Forklift song, the multiple Kens, the little pants, Rita Meter Maid.
And of course, Mike as Jack Perkins. "The joys and sorrows of being really, really, horribly old." LMAO
Don't forget, "You're stuck here!"
lisvender Hahahahahaha! ...I did forget.
alien fugitive II is even better xD with plenty of callbacks Rocky ... again!?
well tv today sucks ass for the most part
AGAIN!
I love the way these old C space movies just stick the word "space" in front of random words to make stuff cooler. "Space Speed" - you know, in case they forget where they are.
Goofy Japanese Sci-fi just seemed to be the perfect genre for MST3K to rake over the coals. This has to probably the best episode. From start to finish, the riffing didn't lose steam.
Objects traveling at "Space Speed" are stupider than they appear
I like the Battlestar Galatica and Dr.Who references by Crow and Tom Servo.
When I realized that Jack Perkins had spent years pretending to be Mike Nelson as Jack Perkins, I was outraged!
OMG I finally found it, the movie origin of the Forklift song!!! :*D YES YES YES!! Thanks for the upload, I will now go and annoy my coworkers with the wonders of MST3K.
You're doing god's work.
Spread the word
Laura B funniest episode ever made the whole movie reminded me of the classic tv series thunderbirds😊
And I was just as delighted to discover the origin of the quote, "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha- YOU'RE STUCK HERE!"

I love the barely disguised Klingon D-7 and X-Wing kitbashes..
34:26 this 7 second break summed up the 90s.
Joel talking about Monsanto? damn they are informed, I can get my funny and social awareness from MST3K, nice
Apparently the actor who played Captain Joe had cheek augmentation surgery in 1957 to make him look like that.
One of my favorite episodes of MST3K ever.
Whoa, this reminded me of when A&E was classy. Another lifetime...
Truth: The real Jack Perkins is a fan of the show and considers Mike's impersonation of him one of the best and funniest.
Walker Riley I admire public figures who are cool with their impersonation or parody. The world need more rolling laughter, less baseless law suits.
Oh that's cool.
VVhen Michael had that unfortunate encounter vvith Jack Perkins in LA, MST3K vvas still a relatively unknovvn shovv vvith an everbuilding cult status. In due time, JP vvould find out more about the shovv and say some pleasant things about it. Also he had passed avvay a fevv days ago.
@@TheJameslehr I know somebody with a "W" key on his Christmas list this year.
@Sean Ware I think it is one of his best impressions. That, and Torgo.
Oh my god, Mike just kills it in the opening segment!
Cassidy Curt He was just wondrous! ;)
Cassidy Curt One of my Fav is when he played one of the holographic clowns.
Anyone rem what movie that was? How about you Analogkid?
ramairgto72 i like that one too
@@ramairgto72 Episodes 405-406. The latter, from "Attack of the Giant Leeches", is the classic.
44:50 I think this is my personal favorite skit. I feel as though Joel is barely able to contain himself.
"It smells like my wig in here." "I tire of pudding. Bring me something salty and crunchy and sweet." "THE GEOMETRIC NUCLEUS?" Cesar "ROMERO." Rocky "Again?" "I'm busy, can't you see?" His little pants. "You're stuck here!!" JACK PERKINS!! He tried to kill me with a forklift. THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE EVER!!
“I know Ken’s a lot stronger than we are. There’s a reasonable scientific explanation for this. He spent time in another constellation, that increases strength.” Lol!
Thank you for leaving that commercial break in at the end. I recorded a lot of MST3K during that summer countdown in '95, and I about lost my skull when I realized that I still remembered a lot of those commercials, even though I probably haven't watched those tapes in at least 20 years.
It's funny how those get burned your brain forever
" Ahhh we got movie sign, who's Jack Perkins?? " lol
I have to admit -- I unironically love this movie. It's so goofy in a way that is really endearing
It's Heckraiser!
Don Ho and the kid who drinks Trania. That comment had me in stitches. Grew up with Don Ho records and remember seeing him on Sanford and Son. Like the Star Trek reference too.
i love the energy with joel and the bots in this reminds me of space travelers which is my fav. u can def tell when joel was happy and when he wasnt.
Mike as Jack Perkins, love it
YOU'RE STUCK HERE
I've seen this episode many times and still have NO idea what's happening, other than the fact that Ken used to be a Space Wolf or whatever.
He tried to kill him with a forklift.
39:50 "It is an old law that murders must be avenged in the most ironic and prone-to-failure way possible!"
Oh my god, I just realized, the bad guy in this movie, it's the giant from Prometheus! Suddenly the plots of both movies come into maddening clarity!
This film makes more sense than Prometheus.
Not Prometheus! NoooOOOOoooo!!!
Thanks for posting this. Fugitive Alien is the first episode of MST3K I ever saw back in the day and was hooked since.
This is the only place I've been able to find this episode.
Joel with all the buttons in the last segment never fails to slay me thoroughly
a great day to enjoy some MST3k... keep an eye on the Space Speed and the Tenperature,
but don't forget.............YOU"RE STUCK HERE!!!!
"What are the specs sir?""Those are just bugs"XD
The Force Awakens completely ripped this movie off lol
Bless all Kens everywhere....except Ken 35 who is a jerk!
Can Joel make me a man that looks like him and has Crow's fantastically dark, sharp humour - I would be in bliss forever!
I have Joel's sense of humor and look surprisingly like Crow, does that work for ya?
And Tom Servo's figure.
Tom Servo is funnier IMO
Mike as Jack Perkins is quite probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.
+Kevin McDermott My favorite was Mike as Morrissey in episode 403: City Limits.
Mike as the cop who is "Danish" from the end of Indestructible Man.... "By the way, is that your car out front?"
What about Mike as Torgo?
Been catching up on MST3K and now I can't get "He tried to kill me with the forklift" out my head.😆
"HE TRIED TO KILL ME WITH A FORKLIFT...OLE!!"
48:52 "Monty Python's Flying Circussss!"
LOL, great riff
They have references so subtle at times, that they might fly under the radar of most -- and those are my favorites. ❤
"I can't kill the man I love!"
Crow: "Then kill the one you're with."
"I grow tired of pudding, bring me something salty and crunchy and sweet." That cracks me up and makes me hungry!!
"Then Joyce Carol Oates will be out to read from her wondrous new work of fiction, her first novel in well over a month."
A lot of people think that Tammy is the morale officer but if you pay attention during Joel and the bots's snorts you'll hear the Captain saying "Negative, she knows more about *unintelligable* than the two of us put together." I'm kinda wondering what it is she knows about though.
Me, too - I backed it up & listened again, & still can't get anything out of it.
ETA: I found the movie unriffed & turned on closed captioning - it says "Knows more about computers."
@@kicsms_science3729 After 10 years, the mystery is finally solved... I can now... rest...
Every show is just a gem
"...really, really... horribly old." I don't know why this is so funny, it had me in total stitches. Mike is hilarious when he's playing other characters. I mean he's funny just as Mike, but there's just something especially funny about these sorts of sketches.

SciFi may have been showing reruns into the 2000s, but the last episode aired on August 8, 1999.
The inspiration for "he tried to kill me with a forklift" starts at 51:07, in case anyone else was wondering. :)
I can't be the only one who stayed for the commercials at the end of the video.
Friggin' nostalgia goggles, man.
Analogkid, I've been watching MST3K on your channel for quite a while now, this is my favorite show of all time, on my darkest days I come to it to distract me and bring my mood back up. Though I do get a bit depressed when I realize that I'm possibly the only 21 year old who knows who Joe Don Baker is. Le sigh. Anyways, thank you for the sheer amount of joy you've brought to my life for sharing these. You are a hero!
Hey, felow riff fan. Glad to see the younger gen is discovering and enjoying the greatest show of all time :)
As far as Joe Don Baker knowledge, it will win you a trivia game at some point. That I guarantee.

When the soldier yelled, "He killed one of his own men!" I really expected the riff, "He killed one of his own Ken!"
OMG! The Jack Perkins' impersonation by Mike had me cracking up! Hilarious!
Mike's Jack Perkins impersonation is god-tier.
So the next of kin takes revenge for the murder? Or was it the next of Ken?
Unohdettu The kenship was strong with those writers.
where is the prince of space when you need him!?!?
He's back home boot blacking, he likes it VERY MUCH.
The vintage commercials are just (chef's kiss)

The captain took the death of his daughter and wife pretty cool i must say.
He did! I mean wouldn't you wanna kill any and all wolf raiders after that?
Sad ten minutes then he's over it.
Servo's "beak" looks like it's made out of old english muffins.
It’s crazy that after nearly 30 years this still holds up!!
As someone born and raised in Seattle, I can confirm that the person writing in around 1:35:00 wrote exactly what I would expect out of one of us. We're an odd bunch (but still, such a wonderful city that gets a bad rep).
