    They'll probably eventually scrap Critter Country and just make it into a Bayous part of New Orleans. But yea in Florida I have no idea. I'm sure theyll think of something.

      @Philip Kippel Disneyland isn't a museum or a textbook, where history belongs. It's a family theme park where happiness is bliss. It's always changing and the stories are always coming and going. This isn't the first ride that they've rethemed and it won't be the last. Walt himself believed in this constant change.

    i think tiana's bayou adventure is a good replacement for splash mountain, although the only things i don't like about the magic kingdom version are 1: the tiana animatronic near the 2nd drop just sits there until a log gets close to her and 2: the secret spice song in the finale seems a bit short because you can hear it loop before you get off the ride

    I agree with you about how this idea might not have been the best. I just hope they at least do a good job and not ruin an amazing ride (in my opinion). That's what scares me...

    Ill just take my mom’s advice to ride it before I decide if it’s bad

    Thank you for keeping the comments open Kris. As I’ve already commented on your excellent previous video, I’m still in favor of keeping Splash Mountain intact, not because of my love of the source material, but because I am a huge fan of Marc Davis and his beautiful creation, America Sings!

    Idk I think it’s cool I’ve never seen song of the south so I have no connection to the brer characters or whatever and I never really cared for the story part of the ride except the fact that it looks great! But I think it will be cool as Princess and the frog and I have hope in the imagineers!

    The fuck?????? This was the only way most people could only experience Song of the South... well partially. Besides, the movie was never really racist.

    I agree with you 100% Chris. The reasoning behind the change is flawed, but it still may turn out okay if the Imagineers are given a decent budget.
    Personally, I've never considered Splash to be an unimpeachable classic, so I'm not as bothered by this as the changes to Pirates. Also, Splash has never really made thematic sense sitting between Peco Bill's and Big Thunder. The red dirt of Alabama just doesn't fit with the sagebrush and cactus of Arizona.

    Hi

  • @MarkSkull85
    @MarkSkull85 Před 4 lety

    The entire second-half of the video makes the argument that they're "erasing history" and that it's a stretch to make a connection between Splash Mountain and "Song of the South." SERIOUSLY?
    Splash Mountain IS "Song of the South." They may have erased Uncle Remus and the Tar Baby, but it's still based on the movie. In fact, using the same logic presented, it's even worse because they made it a point to omit those things, thus making the rider completely unaware of it and erasing them from history.
    Taking away my sarcasm, the problem with the argument is that, growing up, I always wondered what on earth Splash Mountain was based on. When I found out, I thought it was really messed-up and eventually made my peace with the history, but it still never sat well with me.
    So this video goes out of its way to say that Lincoln said terrible things, the railroad in the park could be bad because it was based on one built by Asian and Irish labor (with no mention of the black people who worked on it, too), creating an Straw Man Argument about why it shouldn't be changed because its based on a problematic history.
    And the Fantasia and Mickey arguments are just so horribly flawed. Did Fantasia have one scene with blackface? Yes. Did they base the entire movie around it? Nope. That's why people are OK with that film being used for all sorts of things. We also tend to talk about that scene, so it isn't exactly erased.
    As for Mickey Mouse: I will admit, learning the history of why characters wear white gloves is based on Minstrel acts is disturbing, and the blackface jokes made with him and other cartoons are disgusting. There is a significant difference, and that's the fact they became larger than those things. It was able to go beyond their origins into something better. That's a bit different than a film that the NAACP was racist even back when it came out.
    This was 2 minutes of a great video that talked about the history of this ride, optimism for the future, and joy that they were going to push to expand the Princess and the Frog story instead of just re-telling it. The rest was really just messed-up and filled with straw men arguments using some of the most racist and terrible arguments possible to say why the ride should stay.

    • @ChriswithaK
      @ChriswithaK  Před 4 lety +3

      I never made the argument that the ride should stay. This was supposed to be a follow up video to my previous video which I pointed out the flaws of Splash Mountain and how it needs to change due to its maintenance and bad ride design.
      The point of the segment you are referring to was to tackle the problem with people going out of the way to link Splash Mountain with Song of the South. Yes they are the same thing, but you had to go out of your way to research and find information on it , just like the information I found for this video. I do know that somethings were a stretch, but that wasn’t the point of the segment. I tried to convey the point that racism is always a factor in history and that you can never ever run away from it , which is a problem in today’s society as it. Honestly I am looking forward to what Disney does with the retheme, but I feel that the Splash Mountain fiasco is just the start of a slippery slope of issues.
      Also with the transcontinental Railroad thing, I was mostly thinking about Northern side when I scripted this which employed mainly Irish and Chinese immigrants. The southern side of the railroad honestly slipped my mind which is why I didnt mention any blacks/slaves working on the railroad.

      I don’t recall song of the south being based entirely off of blackface
