WAYS I INCREASE MY INCOME TO BE A FULL TIME ABSTRACT ARTIST

  • I need to be sure that I would be able to increase my income to be a full-time abstract artist. Also being patient and knowing when it was the right time to quit my job and become a full-time artist was important. It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make. I do think since I was working from home because of Covid it made me realize much faster that I couldn't handle working my day job anymore. But how could I possibly give up guaranteed income and depend solely on the sales of my art? Being a full-time artist takes being inventive and trust in your ability to be able to make a living as an artist and a leap of faith.
    Being the artist that I am I wanted or I should say I need more of a guarantee that I could do this and not lose the shirt off my back. I started looking into different revenue streams so that I could supplement my full-time artist income if I needed to.
    I talk about making Giclee prints and how they helped a few years back and I also discuss having the support of Art Galleries which helps me to sell my artwork for me. I know we all would like to have 100% percent of the sales, but just being able to paint and drop off or ship paintings to a gallery and receive pay cheques in the mail is a pretty sweet gig if I'm being honest.
    Lastly, I share that having a monetized youtube channel also helped to ease my fear of leaving my job and ensuring that paying my bills every month would be less of a burden.

    I think your amaizing . I am 53 in derby ks. I too want to quit my job to be a full time artist. But I have a daughter 17 soon to be 18. We are planning to move to Oakland CA. Near Sanfranscico. I would live to be a full time artist. But know it will take a few years before we have money to move an transfer our jobs. But ideally I'm wishing to have the courage to do what your doing. Love your Art. an hope to be doing the same. Right now I work full time very tired but in weekends I paint. Just building up some paintings as trying to learn how to make good CZcams videos is were I'm at. Thanks for your inspiration. We picked Oakland CA to live in more artsy community an because need a change being Kansas is very conservative.

      We are aware it is more expensive. But willing to give it a go. It's my daughter's dream to get out of Kansas an we plan to stay roommates in order to survive furring the transition. But we get along . So I'm very independent but will support my daughter we're she is young an I don't want to surprise her adventure . But know she needs my help for living cost till she gets more experienced in the world. But maybe I'll find a better job more art related for a while but ideally I'm tired an want to be at home focused on my art full time. Patience ...I hope to see more videos of your work.

    Hi Lori, your videos are a huge inspiration for me. I wonder if maybe you could share some details about your journey before you became the successful artist that you are today?
    Like, how long did it take until you were able to sell some of your pieces? Did you go to classes before, have a teacher, or are you completely self-taught? Have you always been into painting, and practising it, or did you develop the interest later in your life?
    Sorry for pestering you with questions! My goal is to be a full-time artist one day, and I feel a bit daunted because I don't even have enough practical painting skills yet - I'm still in my (self-)"education". I wonder how many years I'll have to stick with it before I can expect to be able to make a living through art. I'm 40 now and there's this huge doubt that it's already too late for becoming a professional artist. I also have no chance to be accepted at art school; in Germany these's a strong age bias meaning it's virtually impossible to get into an academy at an age over 30.

    I need to hire someone to work on the 75% so I can do the painting. I have basically zero knowledge of social media and at 70 I don’t have the confidence or the inclination to learn something new and to constantly have to keep up with posting things every day. It would be a large initial cost to pay wages with few sales but if I wasn’t spending the time on marketing I could be painting twice as much so theoretically my increased inventory would result in enough sales to pay the assistant. Am I crazy? I would love to know what all. Your artist friends and followers think.

    As far as marketing the original to a collector and then selling prints I understand how they feel. Could you not sell the originals to collectors and then have a different body of work that you do just for the prints? Maybe make the printing originals smaller than your normal work? Shipping a print rolled up in a tube is certainly easier and cheaper and less time consuming than shipping an original.

    • @lorimirabelliabstractartist
      @lorimirabelliabstractartist  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you. I would check their website and see if they have a submission protocol. If they don’t have one listed that complicates it a bit more as I don’t know the particulars of the galleries you seek to approach. There are different levels of galleries so it’s not really a generic answer.
      Questions to ask yourself....have you checked out other artist the gallery represents?
      Does your selling price point match that of the galleries?
      Is the gallery local and if so have you been to visit the gallery ?
