      The human rights act didn't do anything to improve human rights in the UK. We were a world leader in human rights before its implementation, and its implementation has only allowed unelected bodies to challenge policies they dislike at the expense of the interests of the British people.

      The state of the Tory party is not Sunak's fault. He inherited a sinking ship from his predecessors. However, I am quite worried about what will come into its place when the ship has finally sunk. Populism is on the rise throughout the world. I would prefer to compete with the conservatives.

      I wouldn't be so sure. Historically, the Human Rights Act was designed to protect the individual from the state. It has more recently evolved into a mechanism for the state to control and even silence the individual.

      I think you'll find that's actually quite a popular idea on the Right. And I don't agree with it, but I can see their point.
      It's become so vague that it hamstrings our own legal system. So we end up with utter absurdities (like being obliged to give asylum to convicted sex offenders because they spuriously claim to have converted to Christianity).

      I mean, that’s what you would’ve thought about the Tories. They promised to do that in order to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda (Hitler had the same plans to deport Jews to the West, then blamed the Holocaust on them not taking any in (despite the USSR and Poland having very large Jewish populations, larger than Germany). Same thing with UK trying to send them to France, who takes in far more migrants than they do, and with them literally using them as an irregular warfare method against Ireland.

    it could kill the Tories in the sense that it allso pulls from their voter base, similarly to Reform UK, which could cause the Tories to sink even deeper because of the first past the post voting system.

    If he effectively scrapped income tax, replacing it with a wealth tax AND taxed moving money offshore AND taxed cheap imports from countries with lower labour & environmental laws than we do (so giving them an unfair advantage) then he'd get a landslide victory.

      - Prevention of key industries from unionising such as railway and NHS staff
      - Prevention of "disruptive protests"
      - Increased security (particularly digital) by removing right to privacy

      The plan to stop helping Ukraine is not a plan for peace. It is a plan for a brutal destruction of Ukraine (much more brutal than the curren stalemate) and for encouragin Russia to be more agressive. It is so naive to think: "the moment we stop sending arms to Ukraine, Russians will stop fighting and will go home." I can't really understand how someone can fall for this.

    This sounds very populist. Many of the "broad principles" listed are very vauge and generic. "focus on small businesses", "favour peace", "reform institutions", "focus on how power works", and build a "new coalition of people" are a few examples.

    I am not a British citizen but I am truly amazed at how the Tories could have destroyed this much for themselves and the UK as a whole. I am aware that Brexit is seen as the start of issues for many (although if you ask me, austerity measures ruined it earlier). Is this merely and purely due to incompetence, short-sighted self-enrichment or a general lack of what is going on?

    No, not him. He intellectually understands the problem, but he doesn't feel it in his gut. I spend almost all of my work time around huge numbers of people who would crawl over broken glass to vote for a REAL "economically left, socially conservative" party. Some haven't voted for years or decades (except when they came out for "Leave"). Cummins doesn't understand these people AT ALL. But such a party, if it ever replaced LAB or CON... constituencies would need empty swimming pools to hold all the ballot papers on election night.

    As a EU citizen, I find the idea of not having a Breturn referendum until 2040 refreshingly realistic.
    Before it can even remotely hope to be welcomed back in the EU, UK needs to clean up the huge governance mess that led to the current state of affairs. This will take decades.
    Of course, some of Cummings’s other proposals (such as withdrawing from the Council of Europe) would bar UK from ever applying.
