This video was a great resource; I replaced my cable today using the same method and was successful. If I had the same issue in the future, though, I most certainly wouldn't try this repair again. I consider my vehicle to be very well maintained, but it's at the age where fasteners either break or are almost impossible to get loose. I couldn't get my grille off using the screws at the bottom, so I had to work around that issue, and also every single plastic clip in the wheel well just disintegrated when I tried to remove them. Unless you have at least 2 hours to fight with rusted or brittle components, I'd recommend just keeping a pair of pliers in the car to use when you need to pull the hood release.
Thanks 1AAuto for saving me so much aggravation!
After seeing how long, difficult and involved the process is, I’m going to get a replacement novelty handle because the actual cable still works. What a long process for a simple process!
+Jack Jones Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Great video. Since I do everything I can to avoid shop fees & to insure things are done properly I salvage EVERYTHING for use on later projects. I saved that rubber grommet from the old cable. Those are needed if you run wiring. Just a tip for newbie's, I never throw things away before salvaging what I can like nuts, bolts, washers, plastic fasteners & grommets, etc. They prevent panic when you drop or lose something. I keep my little stuff organized too so I don't waste a bunch of time just hoping I might have it. I do, or I don't & move on. Took me years but now I have my own little hardware store right here at home.

Great video. Very detailed & helpful. Was able to change my cable with no problems after watching your how to. Thanks again.
you guys helped me out fix a lot with a hood realease cable and with changing my door handle to changing my bumper. thanks
I just followed these instructions and fixed mine no problem :)
I only had a problem with some stupid plastic plug fasteners in my wheel well. I just broke them and got new ones.
I had to remove the front bumper but otherwise this really helped out. Pulling out the fasteners underneath the tire cover was harder than it looked. Thanks!
Extremely helpful, THANK YOU!!!
Great how-to video. Thanks so much!
This was very very helpful.
your videos are much ++++ better than the other mechanic on CZcams, even if they have more subscriber but your videos are easy to understand
Great Video, Thank you 1A Auto
Thanks for the vid Ill actually be buying the cable from your site in a few days as the 97 civic I just bought really needs it.

+Gergely Boros You're welcome!

This was a great tutorial and everything else was perfect but I did it without removing the grill. it just requires a ratcheting 10mm wrench to remove the hood catch instead of a socket wrench.
Jason Schaible Thanks for watching 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

Great video.. My honda dealer wanted $335 bucks to replace my cable! (2004 Element, different car but some process) Thanks for posting!!
+senorfesterhairball No problem. Glad to hear it helped you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Bro this is why I want to learn auto mechanics because these guys rip people off man
That sucks man. Can't believe dealerships take advantage of people.
That’s because time is the technicians money.. it’s gotta be worth the hassle, and idk where you got 335 because my dealer charges $155 including the cable.
Are those cable from civic 96-00 compatible with 2007 civic?
Good video thank you
This looks so fun to fix cars

My hood won’t pop. I can’t get it open at all. Any advice? Is there a release somewhere
ok, how do i open the hood to get to the grill bolts, since my cable is broken? ;~)
pull the hood as hard as you can in a quick motion and should break open
I'm trying to fix my Nissan Sentra 2002 you think it's the same as the honda
My 2001 bmw 330ci has a broken bonnet (hood) latch and I'm presuming the cable is broken too. So I can't open the hood as the mechanism doesn't work. I was wondering how to fix this. I know now how to remove the grill but how can I do that if I can't open the hood. Any ideas?

This video is very helpful, but I do have questions. Would the steps be similar or the same if the car is a Toyoda Corolla from the same year? What steps would be different if the steps aren't the same? Thank you :)

How did you get the hood open to do all that if the stupid cable was broken? My cable is broken, and I cannot get the hood on my car open. I need to know how to open the hood first. I have an '88 V6 5 speed Camaro.

The clip broke under the fender .. its suppose to be taken out how the grill clips came out
My hood won’t close can anyone who had this problem help me
But how do I fix it if I can't even open my hood lol
Pull on it loll i you cant do it from inside the car than remove the mud protector under your wheel well and once you're able to see the cable grab it with a pair of pliers and pull on it
Thank you for your response. You have helped me a lot.
On the back of the hood latch where the cable goes into the bracket That little lever next to the spring where the bracket is , slide it and it’ll pop it open, was easy for me since I broke my grille off
samee heere
TheBankster12 use vice grip to pull the broken handle
Im sure i can do this , but just incase you better send don to my house. He makes look easy.
My mechanic would be about $300. Thanks for the video.

How the hell did you open the hood with a broken cable?
+Robearwgl Sometimes you can go under the bumper or through the grill to release the hood, or remove the latch so that you can open the hood and repair the cable. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts my mechanic rigged up the cable so it's poking out my grill
He did not install the new cable the way the old cable was positioned, and ran it on top of the wiring on the kick panel. I feel like this is a life test. Otherwise, gold.
Great video..shop wants $200 ...I bought the cable on the bay $9.80 with shipping and tax.... I'll do it myself..thanks.
+Michelle Lee Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
