This video was a great resource; I replaced my cable today using the same method and was successful. If I had the same issue in the future, though, I most certainly wouldn't try this repair again. I consider my vehicle to be very well maintained, but it's at the age where fasteners either break or are almost impossible to get loose. I couldn't get my grille off using the screws at the bottom, so I had to work around that issue, and also every single plastic clip in the wheel well just disintegrated when I tried to remove them. Unless you have at least 2 hours to fight with rusted or brittle components, I'd recommend just keeping a pair of pliers in the car to use when you need to pull the hood release.

Thanks 1AAuto for saving me so much aggravation!
After seeing how long, difficult and involved the process is, I’m going to get a replacement novelty handle because the actual cable still works. What a long process for a simple process!

Great video. Since I do everything I can to avoid shop fees & to insure things are done properly I salvage EVERYTHING for use on later projects. I saved that rubber grommet from the old cable. Those are needed if you run wiring. Just a tip for newbie's, I never throw things away before salvaging what I can like nuts, bolts, washers, plastic fasteners & grommets, etc. They prevent panic when you drop or lose something. I keep my little stuff organized too so I don't waste a bunch of time just hoping I might have it. I do, or I don't & move on. Took me years but now I have my own little hardware store right here at home.
