- Is it a good idea start my work in the IT field from self-employment and self-study everything I need to know like programming languages?
I am a 27-year-old female. Computers have always been my hobby but I am a master of arts so I don't have any qualifications in this field.
I can say that I am quite computer savvy and I know HTML, CSS and have a good knowledge of operation of computers. However, I am no specialist (at least not yet).
Two years ago I dropped my job to pursue my dream and started creating websites. I now have two websites and come income from AdSense and Amazon Affiliate program. If the numbers keep rising, I will soon be able to sustain myself from these websites. I always wanted to be an independent entrepreneur, not an employer. Is is a good idea to stay "on my own" and learn all I need to learn or should I start in a more "traditional" way (e.g. get a degree , look for my first job and then think about self-employment)?
I am almost 28, I live in eastern Europe and I need to have income and I cannot really go to university again right now but I cannot imagine myself in any other field than IT.

She probably can create really pretty websites
Trust relationships, oAuth, is very used on back-end programming.
I had a buddy in Vegas that wrote music jingles, nationwide stuff. And that's how he would do it. He'd contact a company and say "Can I challenge your present jingle company. If you like what I create for you and decide to buy it, well work out a price."
Interesting topic. I have a few SMB clients friends refereed to me when they got sick of prior contractor. The one job I was just dropped into and had to find the issue. I was a little nervous new client, new setup, have to track down the issue. It took me a little longer to find the issue because had to learn about all the initial setup, I found issue, spent about 5-10 minutes verifying that the issue was fixed. Then he had some old systems that needed to have the data wiped off so I setup a DBAN on them and left them run.
It took total maybe 1.5 hrs, I probably could have done a little faster. Owner was more than happy to pay a full 2 hours though. Even though I would have just let him make it 1.5 HRS. I found I don't always have 100% idea what i'm dealing with and sometimes there is a slight learning curve with some app, etc.
To me it seems if you do what they hired you for, it takes a little longer because some issue came up, etc. your not hard to deal with the client will generally be happy. If you come in do a crap job, just throw a bunch of things together so it sort of works then your going to be fired eventually.
This was so fun to watch at a faster speed.
Very Nice Explanation about Certifications.Well, From my Perspective Certifications can help you if you are serious about the Subject and have keen Interest in the Subject Matter.
I'm 19, and worried my future and career more than who're 29. I'm just finished with my first semester of my Bachelor's degree. No, I don't know whether to be a developer, hard core programmer, ethical hacker, or network Engineer.
Some people will say, it depends on me, whatever I like the most and comfortable with it. I'm not sure what I like, I just want to get a job easily once I graduate. I currently live in Germany. Any help for pre-planning suggestions for my career paths.
I have made around 14 websites for companies with between 1000 and 25000 followers on facebook (just to show the scale of the companies) - And It only really took me 1 website, as all 14 derive from the same original template (which is a one-page responsive page written in javascript, html, css and that's it.
Kevin Pedersen you have a portfolio or how did you approach or get clients?
Years ago I took some Java certification. Think it was the SCJP. Exam was difficult.
200$ for html email. And here i'm sitting having friends wanting to pay me max 15$ for a fully-fledged e-commerce site that will host itself for free. Really need to figure out a way to explain to people the real cost, but template websites make it look as if custom tailored websites cost just a meal.
I am on the same boat. One of my friends once told me that he'll pay me 5 dollars if I made him a custom made website with its own domain.
they'll learn once they have a horrible website that does nothing they wanted it to do. They'll pay if they want it.

PHP would be the skill to add to your HTML and CSS. But maybe if you want to do the college thing and certifications, do something like ASP. That would be real cool too.

What about the CISCO CERTIFICATES and project management certificates??
Fucking amazing!
why would anyone hire for some basic website with contact information when they could make it on weebly or webs ?
it will depend on the client's IT skills. Some people cannot even google it
I was thinking about getting into the IT field. I am going to take a course to get my A+ certification. I already have a bachelors degree in Marketing but no work experience. I am 31. Any advise for me?
Richard Salazar A+ is useless, don't waste your time. No one cares about it. Just pick some topics you want to learn first and get on Google and CZcams.
+Richard Salazar Lotts of the Certs are not useless they are "bricks" when building your foundation. They add up when you put them together. Microshaft is not dumb - they create new certifications and requirements constantly that we must pay for to look or stay "current" (They want to make money too). keep gathering the ones you need that focus on the direction YOU wan to focus on because you cant know everything- and like Eli stated build a lab or invest in simulation software and have at it. The curse of getting your certs and or degree is when hired you will be expected to know it all lol.. Good luck
Javascript?! That's so yesterday. You can do all with HTML5 and CSS3. Javascript pfft!
+test_tickle Isn't HTML5 essentially Javascript?
look at the source code for basically any professional website including Facebook. Tons and tons of Javascript.
