Nice content sir!
Sir, can you please tell where one might find the prerequisites for becoming a Microsoft software engineer ? Does the website contain the information?
Like which languages, skills are top priority etc. One is JavaScript...in the Real Code Example.
Microsoft legal lets you work on the side?
Finally an engineer whose day in life mostly contains of work and writing code instead of just eating freebies 80% of times or showing off office infrastructure in other nonsense day in life videos
Thanks for the sub! Excited to see you around more :)
Agree
The fact you have to include "w/ Real Code" in the title of a "day in the life of a software engineer" video says loads about all other videos of this format.
This is a no nonsense day in the life video, not the typical ones.
Great video 👏👏
This has to be the first honest Day in the life vid. I'm glad to see someone more interested in grinding instead of walking to the breakroom to collect snacks. Keep it up, man.
Thanks! Glad to share a real day in the life 😊
just stumbled onto your channels. your content is great! no nonsense and straight up honest
Awesome video! Was cool to understand what the workflow is really like.
Thank you, I came to fill my curiosity of software engineering and ended up booking a Itakki lesson :)
Haha glad to hear it. I hope you ALSO satisfied your curiousity of Software Engineering
Dude is a software engineer at a tech company, and puts his laptop on a Nike shoe box 😂
nice video
any chance to know what stack u work with at MS and on ur side hustle ?
Everybody else: * Laptop stand *
Jason: 🤷♂️ * Shoebox *
I put it down as "resourceful" on my resume
I love that in big companies you get to be focused on one part of the code base. At my small company we have like 6 apps we have to rotate through and maintain. You end up being a jack of all trades and master of none. Would love to just stick to one app for once and just know the ins and outs of it and improve it. But I work for non tech company so its really just pushing feature after feature no time for making things better. Awesome video looking forward to watching the working in Hawaii it's making me think I could just do this every few months as well, see the world while I work sounds really nice right about now as I work remotely.
great video. Keep it up man
I'm not really sure if you should disable the button, changes that were made could also have a negative effect and accidentally remove info that was supposed to be there
Maybe instead it would be worth it to save where the scrollbar/page nr was when the box was checked, so it can be easily reviewed (store that for every checked box)
(maybe even do a diff between those areas so you can alert the user that there were changes made to that section since they last reviewed it (starting to feel like github code reviews as I'm writing this haha)
Great, awesome vid
what programming language do u use the most ?
Really nice DiTL video, down to earth and without the normal stupid fluff that often occurs in DiTL videos.
Glad you liked it!!
great video
so code is already there , you just have to assemble the idea, big woop!
"Get some sun" in Seattle. Also, I don't imagine that city was any different before or during COVID lol
Great Video. Thank you for posting. Please get a laptop stand. Plenty of good laptop stands online.
One of these days 😂
Would you mind sharing what level you are? or YoE?
Great video btw. Finally "a day in the life" video done right!
Level 60 which is 1 level above level of entry. It's 1 promotion below SWE 2 at Microsoft!
Real code !!! Love that 👍
Thanks!! :)
I just watched a lot of your waterloo videos. I just got into system design co-op at Waterloo, but a lot of people are saying (even you) said that it is just a cs job waiting for you at the end. So Would it even be worth it to attend and just go to a cs program?
Don't make any rash decisions! I don't know everything and I could certainly be wrong. What I suggest you do is attend the program you chose and then make your decision. At the very least you will meet people via the cohort system and then get to transfer into cs with many friends. (That's what Bo Peng did in his famous SWE vs CS article).
For now, don't stress. Congrats on getting in! Celebrate and enjoy 🎉🎉
@@JasonGoodison Aw thanks for the fast reply! Love your videos, my brother also used to work at Microsoft but now he works at discovery and he is a software engineer II. You remind me of him. in a good way. He supports me a lot.
Thanks I appreciate the complement 🙂 I'm glad you have a supportive brother to help you along the way
Hey man did u get the march admission? I was wondering how good ur application was cuz im ac stressed man idk if they will accept me for the may round
I applied to mechatronics with 96+ average and quite some ecs but they haven't given me admission 😭 im waiting on the may round
@@Grind_or_Die I don't think you have to worry, I got in with a 90 average. In addition, I did fast-track my math by one year so I would be able to finish calculus by the first sem this year. I also finished physics and chemistry in the first semester and the only course I am completing this semester is English. So that is one of the hugest factors. They probably just want your midterms for all the major grade 12 courses, even if you have all the grade 11 ones. So with a 96 average, bra that's super good man, good job and ur ecs are good.
Es un buen video, aunque tengo una duda! Que tipo de lenguaje de programación hay que saber para entrar a trabajar a microsoft?
Nosotros usamos C# el mayoria del tiempo so I would recommend learning that!
@@JasonGoodison Oh, esta bien! Gracias por tu tiempo 😊
You are kind of crazy using Mac and showing blue screen of death. I like you.
Merrel setup, simple & functional, outstanding,
Thanks!
Shoes box is the most amazing gadget I've ever seen 😂😂
4:30 what's the vs code theme name ?
Very nice video
your apartment looks amazing
Thanks! Costs an arm and a leg
What programming language do you use, and how often do you use bash scripting? (at Microsoft)
The lang from the vid is typescript
5:47 thank you for showing your typos. A lot of times i feel like i must be slow mentally cause of the sheer # of typos I make. I compare myself to these coding youtubers who seem to type with flawless perfection at god speeds. Seriously, thank you for showing your typos.
Great video! Just curious actually. Do you use javascript a lot for the work especially on the backend side? Also, do you write unit testing for all your codes? For example, for the code to access db?
he doesnt work on the microsoft backend, he's in charge of creating windows the windows images that you boot into to install the operating system essentially (i think)
WHICH porgramming language is this
Why is it always that the code from real life projects is easier than the code for the problems given in interviews. BTW, does anybody use Linked lists and binary search trees at work?
What did you major in?
I'm a Linux user, but it's still cool man. Good job.
great day in the life video
Thank you! 😁
as a microsoft software engineer dont you get a surface book. using mac feels off tho
Wow, you can load the Bug Backlog for Windows on that laptop?! Thought loading it would take like 100 Yottabytes of RAM with the amount of brokenness Windows has.
Wtf ur apartment gym is fire
Pretty much why I decided to live here
imagine not using github copilot as a mincrosoft employee
3:35 You don't need to show any code. Ada and IlSPY are w/ me.
"My team works on windows" 🥶🤣😂
thx for teaching me tech make sure subscribe
I feel like every code worker has the same keybord
Hi there! Great video. I’m a native Spanish speaker with great English skills, if you ever wanna have a chat to flex your Spanish 😉
Haha will do! Love practicing but I'm pretty rusty
Is that the redmond office?
Nope! Working from home
@@JasonGoodison lol!
About the IT industry in Japan
Do you know anything?
Not much :(
Kya khabar sir
6:30 “our team uses windows”
Curioso el estudio del español jajaj saludos de Colombia
😍 knex all the way...
Jeez this man is so busy I wonder where he found time to get his firearms license. You know, for those guns at 2:43.
Haha don't make me blush
Oh.that was funny @1:37
Glad you liked it!
yo can u make it so we can uninstall edge and cortana and also remove cortana cause noone fucking uses it
no typescript ??
I always keep it as lightweight as possible when starting a project. No need for added overhead
@@JasonGoodison .....
what happens if the code go's public?
you get fired
Do you think it is possible to work as a programmer and study a different career in your spare time?
Study a different career or have a hobby? Maybe you could give me an example?
@@JasonGoodison Studying for example primary education to become a teacher or so, because in Spain teachers are civil servants (state workers) and have a guaranteed job until retirement age. I know that programming is practically the same, but I'm worried about being out of work tomorrow for X reason
I wouldn't recommend taking your chips down now. Tech is only getting bigger!
I really want to learn coding but when I read what you write I feel like I will never understand this.
What is that weird keyboard?
Why you using Mac
I like it for coding! I have a windows I use more now though. I got the mac before I stared working here
Why is it that most programmers also like learning languages?
Long ago I read a study that said there was a correlation between language skills and programming aptitude so maybe it is just natural
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
This is UI/UX designer job not really computer science
Coding for microsoft using mac os
Why, when you do not believe in Microsoft, you are hired and working on Microsoft (using MacBook, shows a rare error of Windows,...)?
I prefer coding in mac but I have a windows I use 99% of the time now
Busy life 😕
They say "if you want something done give it to a busy person" so I try to stay as busy as possible!
Hey, we do not know each other but I would like to tell u that despite all the bad that you have done in your life, GOD still loves you and wants you to be with him (GOD), all yoi must do is to trust in Jesus like how he would trust in parachute when jumping out of a plane and you must be willing to turn from your wrong doings and do what is good❤😊❤ 0:04
Well I sure hope you don't ever copypaste something three or more times, Mr. Microsoft Engineer :^)
tu hablo espanol? 😂
Hablas* my man... And no haha 🤣
Bro u work at Microsoft and u use a Mac bruhhh
Hey don't work at Microsoft i hate window update
Jk
hahaha everyone tells me this
good god your starup idea is so bad, not very creative but hardworking huh
