  • In this video I show you how to change your fuel injectors on your N54 powered BMW. This is my second DIY on this subject, I go more in depth in this DIY and explain why index 12 injectors are the way to go. This is especially true if your N54 is tuned.
    I wanted to make this video to clear up any confusion from my original video and also follow the manufacturers recommendations with regards to how to properly perform this procedure.
    We are using the INPA software suite to code the injectors.
    Want to purchase a set of index 12 injectors? Follow this link:

    Thank you so much Vehicular DIY. My Stealership wants $2,300 for 3 injectors (yes only 3). Thanks to you and your details video that helped me save roughly $1,700. The hardest thing for me through the whole process was getting Inpa installed. Other than that, replacing those injectors was as easy as making instant noodles. Again with your step by step video instructions, I even think my 10 yr old can code those injectors using Inpa. Seriously, I cannot believe how easy the job was but the local BMW Stealership would charge people so much to do. If I can do it anybody can do it. Thank you again Vehicular DIY...!!!

    Wow 3 years already since installing those cheap injectors. I still remember asking you how reliable they were. Definitely served you well considering the performance. Another great vid, extremely helpful. Decided to keep my 335i and put up with having an E92 with 2 young children. So good excuse to start tinkering with it again :)

      Yeah I can hardly believe it myself. Nice, good decision. It would be hard to part with this car, I've gotten so used to the torque. Worst case you could always switch it for an E90 :)

    • @Pe3Cee
      @Pe3Cee Před 6 lety

      Funny you mention E90, I was looking around for one to do just that. But they’re hard to come by here in the UK, and part of me doesn’t want to switch to another n54 with perhaps higher mileage etc. Mine’s on 81k atm, and the few that have come up for sale are a lot more. I would love to have one with all the optional extras like yours though haha

    Hearing the engine make *those* noises (not to mention the kinetic rewards you're getting from behind the wheel) makes me understand why N54-powered BMW enthusiasts put so much effort into keeping these wonderful but flawed vehicles in shape. Most buyers of domestic or Japanese makes can't begin to understand this.

    For releasing the fuel pressure I would recommend disconnecting the fuel pump power plug under the back seat or removing the fuse behind the glovebox. Then just crank the car for a second and it will release the pressure in the hard lines. Obviously the car won’t start since the low pressure pump is not feeding the high pressure pump. Also then you will only have a small amount of fuel come out of the lines when you take them off.
    Have done this a couple times on my 135i to do low pressure sensor fuel sensor and index 12 injectors.

    Hi, this week my injector nr 5 gave up. 6 Index 5 on only 56k miles, but almost 13 yo. Because of lack of money at this time, I decided to buy index 9 in Germany($800), on new piezo's and have tested on CarbonZapp equipment. Maybe these last 2 years or so. After that period the absurd index 12 prices will probably cool down. Today I went to the dealership to buy 6 decouplers and the parts guy told me BMW has 15.000 index12 injectors in backorder. In Europe, these index 12 will go for $500 at the moment. Crazy! Dutch regards, Nico.

    I upgraded my coils and plugs on my 07 335i , I have index 10 injectors , car is almost fbo, just missing the fmic. Running MHD stage 2. The new plugs I installed are one step colder. After installing I had multiple misfires. I swapped coils around swapped plugs around and did that for about 3 days. Finally I got frustrated and put the old plugs back in. Car runs fine now. Is there a setting in MHD or something I'm missing? I thought it was recommended to use one step colder plugs on a tuned N54?

    You could use a crows foot attached to a 3” extension & torque wrench to tighten down the fuel lines to the injector & fuel rail.

    • @zeenmuch90
      @zeenmuch90 Před 4 lety

      yes but using a crows foot and the 3" extension changes the input torque value on the fastener. you would need a torque value specific for using a crows foot. Be mindful of that.

    28:45 Yes this is what happened with my car that the injectors had leaked so much fuel that when my car warmed up, the oil would be so thin it would bypass the turbo shafts and into the intake which would clog up my spark plugs with oil causing misfires.

    thank you for this video man, this and the other when you show how to replace the injectors, i just got 3 new from bmw for my n53 engine,
    so version 11 and they came with this compressor piece as well, I know that there is a special tool to be putting in those
    seals, though I would never think that they would actually leave that piece over there, I suppose it makes sense now that you have to replace the
    seal everytime you remove the injector, as it may start to expand straight away maybe

    Word of caution to replace the metal twin tab that holds the injectors down. I recently replaced my valve cover gasket and flipped on of them over because it was bent too far the other way. It ended up breaking, then the fuel line broke from vibration and left me stranded. I ordered 3 new hold downs and bolts and replaced them all.

One question I had was you mentioned that was your secondary laptop and mentioned you can put the software on your daily laptop if you are able to format it if needed or erase its contents, why would that situation present itself? Faulty software? bad download? or is it something from the software that can bug up your computer, also I have a Samsung Chrome book, will that run the program or do i need to have windows OS (win7 or win10)? thanks again for the great video, probably going to watch the rest of your video over the next few days lol

    This is a great video! Very high quality and informative! I just bought an e93 335i 6mt with 80k miles and am loving it. It is currently fully stock. I did however notice that on a cold start the engine might skip a beat or two. Not always either. Not much more than that. No codes in inpa, no check engine light, no issues driving or misfires. Would you suspect this is an injector problem, a coil pack problem, a spark plug problem, or all 3? I could do the job, but I also cannot seem to find these injectors for any less than $230 or so. I'd rather put my money in the right place at the moment if I need to at all. What do you suggest?

    • @oseasalvarez1748
      @oseasalvarez1748 Před 5 lety +1

      Benjamin Palfi hey man I have a E93 as well I had that issue too same way you described it and got no codes, I firstly went with changing the coils and spark plugs and resetting adaptations (spark plugs smelled like fuel) and it seemed to work for a couple months but it came back and I ended up figuring it was a small leaky injector so I went and changed out the injectors and got new plugs and coils (since I bought them from FCP they have a lifetime guarantee) and issue is gone completely, 6 months now and everything is running smoothly no more hiccups on cold start like I use to get and I am tuned and run a 30% E85 mix. It’s well worth doing all at once especially if you want to tune your car. If you can’t just do the injectors because more than likely you have leaky injectors. Good luck on what you decide to do!

    at 2:28 you have alot of pressure in those metal lines. when I loosened mine there was absolutely no air or fuel that came out, is this something worry about?

    Did yours start up instantly after change? Mine had to crank for about 60 seconds, then ran rough as nackers for a minute then cleared up and was smooth as a baby. Also I wasn’t sure on order of injectors. 1 is the closest to front bumper then 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 closet to cab/firewall

      Prime the fuel pump by clicking start with foot off of brake. Then after about 30-60 seconds start the car normally, should help get from pressure back in the lines before start.

      Won't make any difference, the high pressure fuel pump is engine driven. Only the low pressure fuel pump is electrically powered. The fuel rail that gets disconnected is the high pressure rail after the high pressure fuel pump. @@austinstachura9422

      I'd have you check the brake lock out, pull up the rubber boot and try to manually disengage this shift part interlock arm.

    Hi , thanks for the great video . So I have been having misfire issues for the past few weeks so I ordered brand new injectors for my n55 and I’m still getting the same misfire/rough idle along with a “SES” light (p0171) , my mechanic told me that they would need to be coded , could that be the possibility for continued misfire and performance

    I’m good up till get,
    “error #20
    IFH-0010: DATATRANSMISSION TO CONTROL UNIT DISTURBED. API job error or no such result!” Not sure what I’m doing wrong? Is it because it’s the e92? Kinda doubt it cause it has the N54 engine. PLEASE HELP!

    Very nice. Just got mine done as well. Btw, what oil do you use? I use 0w-40. Some say 5w-40 is better for turbo engine. Yes, my car def smelled different at the first crank. I do also get quite occasional afr, trim, throttle spikes while cruising with very light pedal. Can you guide me what it might be? I thought it was the injectors but replaced all 6 injectors and plugs but not it spikes still. Thank again and your videos are Awesome!!!

    How long into the previous install did you have to replace the seals with the OEM Teflon ones? I am currently running a budget build of sorts and would like to know please. Thanks!

    • @VehicularDIY
      @VehicularDIY  Před 6 lety +1

      I only replaced them with OEM Teflon seals due to the fact that I pulled them out a couple times. They were in there for over a year without issue before I pulled the injectors out.

    Really appreciate your videos, thanks. Have a question. I have INPA and JB4 (no BEF) on a 335i. I connect well with inpa and can see live data values fluctuating car in idle, but when I give some gas to see the values on higher rpm's INPA stalls and I have to back. It reads at idle, stalls when I accelerate. Could it be the JB4 installed interfering ?? Take care..

    Ive got a 09 535i drive and about to change the injectors myself with remanufactured. Car is completely stock with the dual turbo. But anyways I just ordered the Foxwell NT510 and have seen you can code injectors with it. My question is, is the coding with it the same as the coding you do here with the computer software. Seems a lot easier with the scan tool.
