    I had the same issue with a N42 engine. One sign is gasoline smell from the exhaust or when you take the oil cap off and the bad odor is a dead giveaway. Other issue is also timing of the engine goes out randomly even with new vanos unites and chain installed. Another thing is if the engine runs poor but starts running way better when disconnecting the MAF sensor(+multiplied fault codes from the EMU). Combine that with bad gasoline smell from earlier that is a give way you need new injectors. Or the old ones at least need to be tested.
    If the vehicle is approaching 250-300k miles it should be something to pay attention do. Sharing here a personal experience :) Hope it helps others. Very good video btw.

    Thank you so much.
    My C4 Corvette had many of the symptoms you explained and in all the videos I watched only yours really showed me what a bad injector sounded like.
    I had slightly rough idle, harder cold start, whitish smoke on start ups.
    Sounded like gravel in a tin can.
    So today I will pull the fuel rail, clean and rebuild each injector.
    Cheers

    Ignition misfires almost always manifest themselves at higher engine loads rather than at idle Fuel Injectors manifest their issues at idle and light load rather than WOT as they go to open loop and rich.

      Thats what i'm thinking with my car. It idles slightly rough and when accelerating at low rpms it has a bit of hesitation. When i get on it the car is fine. I have no codes or anything. I replaced plugs already, so I believe it may be a bad injector. Plus it is direct injected and has over 130k on it

    Out of all the videos I’ve scoured through you have given the best advice and I appreciate it. My n54 blew up 12hours after I purchased it. My friend did a pull and I suggested he didn’t. He weighs 300lbs too. So on my way home it blew up rather violently and seized the engine. I was just in a trip home that night from the dealer had to take my dad home and stay the night there as it was late and it’s a 50+mile drive to my place. I had to take my friend gas can he left over at my parents place when he was helping me move. Now me and him have owned rx8s and he has corvettes so he was a lil enticed to drive the car my 2011 335is and I even suggested he shouldn’t do a pull but he did 4-5 he at loaded pulls with our heavy weight int he car. Now I’ve driven my r3 rx8 with him having 200+hp and that was actually sluggish as ever. But my dad did pint out before I began my voyage home that the car sounded off with a noise and he may have heard a leaking injector he didn’t tell me about the noise until after the motor seized on my way home so the spirited drive was already over and car was fine half way home until it happened so randomly

    Hey hopefully you can see this, have been getting a rough idle and cylinder 3 misfire (29CF), off a cold start rpms flutter around 700-900 rpm, then shakes as it settles down to 600rpm, changed plugs and coils and had an oil change, ran fine for a couple days then rough/shaky idle again as well as threw that same misfire on cylinder 3, checked the new plugs and found more than one covered in fuel, i found it odd that i was only it getting cylinder 3 misfire but more than one plug was covered in fuel so i think it’s leaking from injector #3 into the other plug housings, like your video said checked oil fill cap and smelt gas as well, from everything i’m thinking the injectors, but i don’t have the facilities to remove them and try different combinations to test, just looking for some confirmation/input as i don’t want to go ahead with pricy injectors and them not solve my problem.

    I have a 08 E90,
    Just bought it last week down in Key West (Navy Stationed), came with 77k miles and it seems like it has some problems.
    I have a rough cold start/idle/check engine issue it seems like every monring. The car before I bought it wasn't ran for two months so I could say it's just knocking the rust off but I don't think so at this point. Just had the oil changed yesterday and it still had the rough start, but I'm driving half way to the shop and it gets itself together and the lights go off and it's normal, I had them run the codes and it said injectors and misfires on like 3 cylinders.
    It seems that it needs to heat up before it runs normal. I ordered spark plugs and coils and I plan to do some TECHRON today to give it some love.
    Any help would be appreciated before I drop bags of money into a car I just bought, literally on the 4th of October. Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction on ways to approach. Thanks!

The sparks looks clean. My problem is that the car is still missfire and I get no codes. I took the car to dyno to read some logs and when the moment the car missfire the first 3 injectors run too rich. But in other logs it looks like the next 3 injectors run too rich. Hi, I've got a problem with my E90 and I'm wondering what it could be. The symptoms started a couple of weeks ago with, for example, if I shifted from 2nd gear to 3rd gear and stepped on the gas, it started to chop. Kept it like that for a couple of weeks and now it's pretty bad, if I do a cold start the whole car moves, shakes sideways. One day there was no power in it at all. The fault code reader shows misfire on the 6 cylinder, a guy at a workshop put in a used ignition coil and then it got a little better but not great, but have bought 6 new spark plugs, 6 new ignition coils to see if there might be something there, otherwise so maybe it's the fuel injector?

    When I started my car and start driving for good 20 mins, and then shut it off for two hours while I was at the store, and then I started the car again. I got stuck in traffic was sitting at full stop idling for about 5 mins and then a lot smoke was coming out from my exhaust for good few mins then it went away. Is that a sign of bad injectors? I know it can't be my turbos. Thanks.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  Před 3 lety +2

      White smoke can be a lot of things. Coolant yes as in blown head gasket, but white smoke at start up can be a failing injector-you just have to put a few puzzle pieces together. If you have a rough idle only for a minute or so with a bit of white smoke, it’s likely an injector.

  • @Melljell

Can i switch the injector 1 and 2 to see if im getting cylinder 2 misfire to determine if in fact it is the injector thats the issue? and can i do that without replacing the rings and decompressor rings simply to diagnose? or can i casue damage this way?
    My original issue was after hard acceleration especially on the highway the car was choking / shaking. I have replaced the coils and spark plugs , which seemed to fix the issue for a month. few days ago i accelerated hard again and it went into limp mode and i am getting the codes above.
    Beforfe the limp mode I also got a code 29D9 Misfire at low tank fill level. prior and in addition the the codes above.
    Any suggestions? if it was the HPFP failing wouldnt I have issues with more than 1 cylinder?

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  Před 4 lety

      I'm still learning a lot about this platform myself, but this is exactly what I did. I was getting a cylinder 4 misfire. I moved it to #3 and cleared the codes. Code returned as a cylinder 3 misfire. Seemed pretty obvious to me.
      Now, the small seals at the tip of the injectors, those form to the openings in the cylinder head, so technically, I would not suggest running the car for long without replacing those seals once removed, but if you know one of your injectors is bad, you'll be replacing it anyway.
      Have you tried checking plugs and coil packs first? Moving coil packs is much easier than moving injectors. If you have a bad one, the misfire will follow it as well.

      I think the risk of burning the injector seat area in the head is always there, it just increases with higher pressures(ie: boost).
      That said, if you’re misfire is occurring only at idle, AND you’re able to swap 2 injectors very quickly(under 30 seconds?), it probably wouldn’t be an issue. Just remember before driving that the pressure (and more importantly COMBUSTION)will find any discrepancies in the injector seal.

      Sounds like a high potential that you have failing injectors. Could be a vanos issue too, so cleaning them first is a simple trick. Also O2 sensors are a relatively inexpensive fix, but it always seems to come back to injectors.
