I love this channel. I was going to send a hard drive to you to get the data off of it despite major physical damage but after years of watching I decided to give it a shot myself and succeeded. The sky is the limit if you believe in yourself
Amazing! You give me hope! I usually talk myself out of self-repair jobs. ;-)
Well if it's really broken it cant get any worse so might as well give it a shot
I got a laptop drive from my sis, think it's 1TB WD drive, that got thousands of pictures on her children when they were kids.
What was wrong with yours and how did ya fix it?
This one seems to have problems reading it but it seems to do a bit better when frozen but as it's so small it get warm pretty quick so I'm thinking of putting it in the freezer with cables hanging out to a laptop and do 'dd' to a file that I later can check.
Whaddya think?
@@AliensInc. disclaimer: i'm not a data recovery specialist.
if it works in a freezer, the time is the issue. Hwole 1TB will take ages to copy. If You know where those files are located and the drive is not encrypted, then you could boot a LiveCD and copy just those photos.
This also seems to be an issue with bearings, so a platter transplant might be a viable option to reliably copy the data.
Yeah a shop charged me down here to pay over 400 for a repair so I decided to buy a donar drive with a matching serial and give it a shot... It just wasn't turning on for shit.. So ended up just swapping everything into the donar drive and voila.. It worked
There's a certain charm in watching New Yorkers explain electronics by analogy of punches to the face.
First thing we do is spray it with corona....almost sprayed my keyboard with coffee.
Well, at least now we know why NY became such a hot spot for corona.
new york is a hot spot because the city and state government has a political motive to lie about it. also maybe because everyone is packed into the city like a tin of sardines. but mostly the politics
Oh remember: Die MacBook, die... I mean die corona, die!
I do not have a mac, nor any apple product, nor ever had one.
Yet been watching these for over 2 years, awsome content đ. Electrician from UK
The Genius Bar is not high. I'm guessing about 1.3 m off the ground.
He kinda sounds like a surgeon talking while working under the microscope xD
Mac, time for your open heart surgery...
Heâs the Bob Ross of computer repair lol
Congratulations!; you just found the Louis Rossmann channel!
@@ziggylink9019 Bob Rossmann
I am beyond gratified right now.
I just did my first repair on a smartphone with a hot air machine. It was a bad charging port. And it was you who inspired me Louis. Thank you. While I'm not interested in fixing macbooks so much as I am with fixing smartphones, I do appreciate your commentary on them and learning how they work just for the sake of it. Thank you for existing.
What Louis is talking about at the end is called a buck converter
Or VRMs which is synonymous
Louis giving a good explanation of how pulse-wave modulation works. Not exactly a switch-mode power supply, but more of a voltage regulator.
Louis: Screen cable. Let me unbend that one pin.
Apple: All your base are belong to us!
You are on your way to destruction!" ;)
Love the videos. You are a good man. Keep on killing that Corona!
You donât need to be a genius to fix a Mac, but man... You are the best! Thanks for your videos
My Motto : " you HAVNT made a mistake until YOU have left it there and walked away "
The humour this man has is the kind I truly enjoy
"ow... ow...ow...ow..... aaaaaaaaah" - 2020 summed up
More like " *AA A A A A A A* "
"Spray it with Corona"
Apple guru, "Liquid damage."
No nerver damaged if doctor know becos mee too electronic doctors
um, cringe, guru is for someone that actually knows something, disliked
I like how you explained PWM
Good seeing ya back at what you do best!
What I have learnt over the years watching Louis is that itâs all about power management. A computer wonât power up, a small portion of the power management circuit is fried, we float off (and replace) a component or IC, power restored.
Arenât there machines that come in, power up, and manifest other problems?
I don't think he does software issues. Mainly HDD data recovery and motherboard repairs
Yep, I should have said machines that âmanifest other *hardware* problemsâ. Itâs almost like a car garage where the problem with every car is that it wonât start. Maybe itâs the nature of computer diagnostics that if the clutch is slipping, the car wonât start.
Great class :)
Thank you for both the lesson and the entertainment!
Louis Rossmann: "I hope you learned something"
Me: **Learning about nerf guns are always awesome**
Love the analogy of the buck converter... The transistors go "Ow.... Ow.... Ow...." and the inductors turn that into "aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh"!
When you're so early CZcams quality is 360pđ€ź
a long time ago 630p was the highest quality on youtube
When you're so early, you see so many people leaving your exact comment for like the last 6 years!!
Thanks for the video. I have a question. Do you talk to the boards when your not filming?
:)
Their scared, he has to calm them.
Some are scared, some are suffering a PTSD after an encounter with another service. Keeping the patient calm is good bed manners.
Help, my brain is only taking 200mA.
Worse part is, I don't know if my brain is half-braindead, or half of my brain is completely missing.
Hmm I did have a question on this one. With the jumper on the same side of the exposed trace, wouldn't the jumper just be serving to bridge past the cap? Maybe I missed something.
18:00 - 18:50 this is the most entertaining explanation of how PWM is being used for voltage regulation that I've ever seen :-D
Rossmann repair group.... Rossmann Reality series..... Rossmann Law and Order.....
thank you sr
If you call the number in the title the guy that answers is very grumpy. He didn't want to help with CPU Vcore... AT ALL!
"There's no excuse for geniuses to be this incompetent." - No, there is no excuse for calling them geniuses in the first place.
I'm confused, yet fascinated as always
I just bought an Asus vivobook. These videos have put the fear of god inside of me regarding apple products.
Nice. Good tutorial. Its amazing. Even my Electrons professor in Collage couldn't make it that well in his classroom. I really wish there were more people like that.
The bar may not be high, but Apple uses a pole-vaulting stick and a rolling start down a hill for a hurdle race
It really hurts when I see you scrape away the coating, but it's a necessary sacrifice.
What do you spray and clean the laptops with?
I wish Rossmann Repair Group can offer a custom cooling solution for new and old MacBook to prevent overheating.
Not possible considering the heatsinks are admittedly of high quality materials, and are at their limit due to their small size in such a small clearance, other than the new macbook pro with placebo cooling that is just pure cheap garbage engineering.
Hope you are doing well louis, and not getting totally corona worried, tough times
As usual, I learned something đ€©
Hey Louis,
What would you suggest for a heatsink where you stripped the threads on the motherboard trying to re-attach the CPU cooler? Anyway of repairing that with some kind of filler material?
I've currently been using a spring setup supported by the internals to keep tension on it but rather a more proper-ish fix.
Before you blame the POS, it's an older dell workstation *gasp* and over 12 years old, and I should stop working out my wrist so much ;)
Wait, so that's actual liquid damage?
Die corona die... louis Rossmann quote i will always remember that
Corona: Iâm the beginning of a new world order
Lysol: no, your a disease, and Iâm the cure
Louis knows more Australian than just soLder and aluminium - he knows what a Koala is (it's not a bear) đ
Macbook have brains?
fuck
YOU JUST MADE THAT MAC BOOK A PC!?!?!? SACRILEGE!
What happened to "20min rant disguised as board repair"?
It's dead
We all love your rants. Hope they get better soon and make a reappearance! Nothing is unfixable.
What platform does Louis stream on?
Thatâs moment when used flux was at the right place))))
I guess thats one way of explaining a step down converter.
While I agree with your opinion on their processor selection...
I have a question do you guys also do window computers cuz everything seem to be just Apple just wondering ?
A nice repair video, not that much stupid drama...
Riots and the Seattle LARP 2020

I do have a MacBook. Now that is out of the way, would you say its fine to go inside occasionally to clean it out of dust or anything?
I guess you have to block out the logo now because apple got their depends in a bunch?
Hi Louis!
Hi! Iâve been experiencing kernel_task issues on my late MacBook Pro Retina - Mid 2012. Activity monitor displays high CPU 600 to 900% and the 2 internal fans spin at high speed immediately on startup.
Reset the SMC and PRAM with no success. iStat indicates normal temperature. If your issue was solved, please share.
I powered up by pressing D on the keyboard and performed a hardware testreceived the following error: 4SNS/1/C0000008:Ts0P--124
Research on web indicates:
Temperature Sensor Broken 4SNS/1/C0000008:Ts0P--124
I disconnected the trackpad which includes the temperature sensor, powered up, same problem.
I replaced the trackpad AND trackpad cable with a brand new one and I still have the same fuc&$# problem.
Disconnected all I/O components i.e.: airport card, ram, video display connector and internal speakers... receive the same symptoms on startup with the fans running at full speed.
Please let me know if you have any advice, thank you!
this video started with an attempt to summon a genius. thats exactly how they divine all mac issues.
Hello Louis! đ
What is that green stuff?
Corona in a bottle FOAMS
Thank you professor koala. be well.
Wow, that thermal solution is weak. That probably has 4 times the performance of my cheap laptop, yet it still uses the same grade of heat pipe.
Focus literally gave me a headache. :(
Louis, you said you can't put Corona in a bottle, but actually you could but the MacBook would smell like beer.
wait a sec, why there's part of a chip only partially covered by a heatsink?
yeah, APPLE
That's the 128MB L4 cache chip for the Iris graphics of these Haswell/Broadwell mobile CPUs. It probably puts out very little heat.
@@jacobfoster6773 thanks!
What ever happened to just dividing the voltage evenly using math and resistors....rather than punching an inductor continuously and smoothing it with capacitors?
Not efficient enough. Punching is better
Simples, transistors enjoy punching inductors far more then resistors enjoy doing their jobs.
AKA: Its far more efficient, in a voltage divider excess energy is dissipated as heat in the resistors, in a buck converter very little energy is lost. Supplying like 30 watts (roughly what a mobile CPU uses) at 1 volt from 12 volts using a voltage divider, you'll end up having to dissipate 100s of watts in the resistors.
do you guys fix gpus too? i have a vega 56 big oof i regret ever buying it on ebay :|
it all started when i tried to find what was causing my pc to freeze when it loads in to windows 10
everytime i get to the log in screen and log in my pc would freeze
so i had to restart it i removed everything except the essentials to get to bios and i was able to access bios so i restart the pc again then
my gpu started blowing the max speed when it turned on so i had to turn the pc off
after that the pc would no longer boot or post so i removed the vega 56 and got a new card and pc works now
the question now is... can this vega 56 be repaird or do i now have $250 desktop weight/toy/display
Enough dead MacBooks, I wanna see you make a dead bug MacBook
Definitely thought the title said vore issues at first
I'm wondering at what point Apple is going to prevent repair by spraying their PCB's with Polyurethane.
I am no longer receiving any updates when your video come out I don't see them in my feet and a lot of them disappear before I even can watch it stupid CZcams
Eugene? Eugene from SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon?
spray your gloves too after u touch the macbook
first time ive seen donations get the blur job lol, someone must have went donation trolling
Ey can you reviewe the ksger soldering iron
I have some questions. I've been working on copying my dvds and blu rays onto an external harddrive. Mostly for space and becuase i don't trust digital services not to edit or delete the movies I payed for. I have a 3TB usb harddrive from Toshiba. I'm trying to find an external cd/dvd/bluray drive and which is the best software to allow me to copy my movies. I know there is a DMCA or something that the software has to get around. I reinterate that I own these movies. I'm not sure which will be the best external player or software. I also wonder if 3TB will really be enough.
I saw some ppl have things as big as 20TB for movies and things but it seems dangerous to have so much stored in one place. Instead I'm thinking maybe 2 or 3 6TB external harddrives in the future when i get to that. Thoughts?
ketami2 Re software for ripping Blu-ray (assuming you have a Blu-ray drive ) use MakeMKV to rip then use Handbrake to convert the MKV files to MP4. For regular dvd just use Handbrake.
@@mitcheft awesome, i saw those names listed in my searches but it's nice to be recommended something someone uses. Thanks!
Professor Rossmann ha ha đ
Corona spray haha
3:15 Those nasty pop rocks have boiled that poor chip.
Can someone help me? I have an old Lenovo G570 laptop. The power cuts off whenever I put some load on the system. There is no visual problem on the board.
I guess if it turns ON then it is actually works, except that the shut-OFF is due to power issue? could it be easily the power adapter failing?
@@xponen No, I have tried multiple adapters.
The best way to fix a MacBook is to never buy one. Then it never breaks. Well, it absolutely still breaks but at least it's not your problem lol.
Hey leave our native fauna out of your stupidity Louis! Btw good class session at end, love it when you explain the issue, that's why I watch.

Let's do a brain surgery
Enjoy your repairs. I have owned 6 laptops and 1 iBook G4 and none have ever failed to turn on due to CPU (Shrek shit đ) only had one screw up due to hard disk drive. Puts me off buying one!

Newsflash: Corona beer stopped bottling due to the coronavirus. How fracked up is that. A virus by the same name as the beer causes the beer to be no more. Whatâs that? Oh, right. We are indeed in the Twilight Zone. Twenty-twenty. The year the movie called Life on Earth ended.
