Thank you for the video on how to replace U-joints on 2005 Chevy Avalanche after watching your video I went to AutoZone and bought my U-joints and pretty much remembered your video so I could do the work without having to watch it easy to follow instructions and pretty much point on I tried to use the hand press but because the U-joints were rusted in there pretty good I ended up having to use a 20-ton press and was able to get the old ones out and put the new ones in again I want to thank you and it's always nice to have someone doing videos like this for someone like me who is not mechanically inclined but now thanks to your video I have more confidence in myself
Made it look easy lol good camera skills too. You almost did the whole job with 1 hand lol 😆 not sure if my U joint has ever been replaced, but if it hasn’t, I don’t think I’m up to changing it lol
I have an 03 Avalanche & I wanted you to know that this video helped me immensely. It still took me 2 days (mostly from procrastination & watching CZcams videos) and laying on the snow covered ground. Thank you for this video & subsequently the help that it displays. - J
Almost legit garage is a perfect name very evident with the hesitant parts naming also remember breath in through the nose exhale through the mouth lol
Thanks just had change out my joint today, shaft dropped off. But when I place new joint on one cap came off? Tighten bolts very tight??? Has some side side movement? Is that normal
At 10:46 you mention you will get a vibration due to drive shaft orientation to slip yoke. My question is, why? I replaced the joints on both ends and now it has a vibration. It looks like this is the issue because I marked the shaft and yoke but it erased, so I just put it back on however. Greased up and flexible, but a vibration nonetheless. Why does orientation matter?
Orientation matters because the driveshaft is balanced in that particular orientation. I would double check and make sure your caps are all the way on and there is not side to side movement in the joint. That can cause a problem too.
@@ckrummy13 Yeah I didn’t think the tire rods were either because I had a 95 lumina and they didn’t have grease fittings but this truck does. Thanks 👍😎
I done went to o reilleys 3 times in the past 3 weeks. I have 2004 avalanche 2wd base model 5.3 liter, and each time I got different part numbers. When looked up, they list completely different measurements from end to end and groove to groove circumference or however. I'm having to change them every 100 miles. But the jackass I got to change them i watched him and never saw him mark for the orientation. I wonder if maybe they a were installed out of sync if this ain't why they keep failing. Maybe I'm the failure.... ❤❤
mitchell cardinal you just need to hold the yoke and see if there is any play when you turn the driveshaft back and forth. You’ll do that on both the front and back. Good luck
Almost Legit Garage did that last night after watching a couple other videos I couldn’t seem to make it move but could hear a squeak when pushing on it. I don’t have any other symptoms other than it squeaks like crazy until 20mph. I’m thinking that is the most likely problem may try to replace this weekend. Great video by the way.
I would probably take it apart and try putting it back together the other way and see if that helps. If not you should take it to a driveshaft shop and have it balanced.

Excellent Video....👍
Just checking ty

It should be pretty minimal side play, sometimes the straps wear out and you have to replace them. I’m wondering if that’s your problem.
Would this be the same process for the 07 avalanche? Great, to the point video as well.
Geek Girl yep they are all the same.
@@ckrummy13 thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to do mine tonight, I have a torch ready just in case 😂

Good video, but please invest in a cheap phone/camera holder/tripod and a better lighting system
Have a 2002 avalanche does the factory have grease fittings? I hate to crawl under and get dirty to find out
It shouldn’t, factory u-joins are usually lifetime lubed.
@@ckrummy13 Yeah I didn’t think the tire rods were either because I had a 95 lumina and they didn’t have grease fittings but this truck does. Thanks 👍😎
So/.....did you use the same part number for all 4 U joint locations? Two on the rear driveshaft and two on the front.....all the same??
I believe they’re all the same. I didn’t do the front drive shaft at the same time as the rear but I believe they were all the same.

My 04 Chevy avalanche clunks when I put it in drive and on initial takeoff it vibrates real bad. Would it be cv joints or u joints?
It’s probably the U joints, the cv’s shouldn’t be under tension in 2wd.
@@ckrummy13 ok, thank you. I’ll start there.
05 avalanche slight clunk when putting into drive. Squeaks from 0mph-20mph, how do I check to see if it is a bad u joint?

I am having the same squeaking noise almost sounds like a bird underneath. Did this fix the problem?
I forgot to Mark the drive Shaft and I put it in already it still Vibrates what should I do?

@@ckrummy13 🤦♂️ First time doing it , Thank You brother I appreciate it, back to the drawing board 👍
I have to replace the rear. Is there a front u joint that I can replace also?
stevostevo 72 yes, same concept but you have to press 2 of the joints instead of one.
@@ckrummy13 is this for 4WD as well? If not anything different I should know about?
@@LETS-DREW-THISsame exact process
How many u joints does an avalanche usually have
4, 2 on the rear drive shaft and 2 on the front.
Painful to watch... It's a pretty easy gig... And FYI... The factory ujoints are glued in. Torch is easy way to remove.
