    Your giddy excitement is how I feel too! My neighbors think I’m crazy because I talk to my plants and make sure every one of them get their personal attention. Everyone gets their morning pat. My plants are also bigger then all of theirs. 😂😂

    I’ve been winter sowing for 5 years now and love it! I used milk jugs the first 3 years and had good success. The last two years I have used 3-4 inch pots to sow my seeds. I use 3 large clear storage containers that I’ve drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. You also drill holes in the clear top so the plants can get rainwater and ventilation. Just place the pots into the storage container and you have a small greenhouse. I’ve had great success with perennials, annuals, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and basil. It is such a great savings. I look forward to trying some of the seeds you sowed next year!

    Tried winter sowing this past year. Awesome. Zone 8B. Instead of writing on my jugs.. bought 12" tall stake labels.. wrote specifics on stakes.. stuck in jug since top was off.. then when I planted in ground.. used same stake and stuck in ground.. Perfect.
    Also, when I direct sow seed.. take colorful hula hoops..lay in garden.. fill with 3" of great soil.. scatter seeds.. top with soil.. water and great luck with Zinnias n' Cosmos..once my seeds start popping up.. I can remove hoops and move to another location.. repeat process with another flower. So festive with hoops.

    So excited to see your results! I was very interested in your success with sweet peas! I will definitely start them that way next year.I just started this method this year but only did seeds that need cold stratification. With flowers like cosmos, zinnas, and morning glories, I just buy 1/4lb bags of seeds from American Meadows, sow them directly in the ground, and voila, I have flowers really fast. I tend to plant large areas of zinnas and cosmos, so having 10 or 20 plants that you cold sow that are a little ahead of growth...pretty time consuming. I'm also focusing more on natives - so beneficial to wildlife! Plant lots of dill and parsley - amazing what it attracts.

    First time viewer. Definitely not last. I tried the milk jug method last summer but didn't tape. I don't have natural talent and it was a waste of time, effort and money for me. Every year I swear it's the last for me but then spring comes around and I get that feeling. I'm beginning seed now to try to plant ahead of next spring using grow lights. We'll see. I appreciate your success. It's motivating. I'm in western NC, zone 7.

    They look great. A lot of mine this year are really stunted. Not sure why. 3 years ago I planted Shasta Daisies in a pot. They didn’t come up. I completely forgot about them. Last spring they came up. Grew like crazy. I potted them up twice. Then fall I divided the plant into 3 and planted them in the landscape. They are almost 2 feet by 2 feet this year. Don’t rule those seeds out. I would tape it back up and give it more time.

    I'm enjoying your winter sowing results (newly subscribed!) and wanted to share that I recently heard of some using saran wrap instead of duct tape. I totally missed my winter sowing window this year, but I think I might the saran wrap next year. (Saran wrap that's on a hand held roller, used for packaging - that's what I heard.)

    Hey Kim! This may be silly, but curious how you prep the garden with pulling the weeds up. I have several LARGE beds that i get in and weed, but curious if the process could be easier-not sure if I'm using the right tools and all that. Maybe a future video idea?

    Hi Kim. Since you are in a warmer zone, do you keep your jugs in a more shaded area or full sun? I worry about them getting too hot so I probably open mine too early because I have mine in full sun in zone 5B

    • @thesoutherndaisyllc
      @thesoutherndaisyllc  Před 4 měsíci

      I don’t. They do fine in the direct hot full sun. But it’s also ok if you opened them and continue to let them grow in the container. Experiment and find what works for your area! 😊

    • @valerieoster8049
      @valerieoster8049 Před 4 měsíci

      @@thesoutherndaisyllc I panic and worry that I will fry the seedlings. When I open them too early, I lose the whole mini greenhouse effect and the containers dry out so quickly. I love how you let yours come up and out of the top of the jug.
