I'd forgotten just how GOOD NTNON was! Mel Smith had quite a set of pipes on him, sadly missed me old mucker. Thanks for the upload, magic stuff
Fabulous song. What a great series. As a young teenager a wonderful insight of the world through clever humour.
Not the Nine O'Clock News 1980 S02E07 Death Lasers of Kazaan. 21.1.24. that was the day I thought what's the point?..................40 years later there's little change just the realisation that not pig's blood but literal shit is dropped into Guinness.
The “kitchen revolutions” skit is brilliant
Wow so many of the subjects are still the things we want to change in 2023. Just shows you things don't change that much.
0:01 The All Out Superpower Confrontation song is epic.
Damn these guys can easily win the Eurovision. 😂 They singing so well.
The album released of the songs from this was the first comedy music album to be no1 in the uk. its a neat one if you can find it
That's not a compliment because you don't have to be able to sing to win the Eurovision Festival.
I like the TV license joke that it’s obvious that all the letters are written in the same handwriting
I was out of the country when this was aired so it's great to be able to see it now. Thanks for the upload.
Not the Nine O'Clock News 1980 S02E07 Death Lasers of Kazaan. 21.1.24. Abbey Road without the zebra crossing? Ahhh...they tarmacked over it then reinstated it for tourists or after they'd finished tarmacking...
At 6:55 just look at Rowan, a rare occasion when you can see he really is dying to laugh at Mel Smith here. Rowan rarely ever broke character, but here you can just see him wanting to laugh. I have a feeling this sketch was put into the show at the last minute.
Enjoyed that a lot, I used to have all their songs on an LP so I remembered the words and sang along with both of them on here.
Thanks for posting.
Thank you for putting these up, I was only about 7 when or 8 when this was on, so rarely got to see them sadly, but still recall a few classic episodes. Also, love the cameo in this episode :D
Superb satire. Mockery of everyone and everything. We won't see anything like this nowadays. Brilliant that the SPG was a regular on the show.
this song is actually pretty cool and the lyrics are really ominous
the song in the beginning is quite the banger actually
It's more or less the same song as they used later (?) about Oswald Moseley.
@@Harry75very similar music in both

✌️
@@Harry75 yes it is. Coulda been a great dictator given half a chance.......
Thursday night was a good night to go out. Then 'not the nine O clock news' came on and we all stayed home. An epic in comedy, satire and parody.
you can see this is not repeated on BBC but dads army is , you decide why
Brilliant program ❤,still piss myself when watching.
Interesting that they reran the Ayatollah Song. I guess it was just that popular.
I love the Ayatollah song. Brilliant. But I didn’t know they’d run it twice. When was the first time?
Kate Bush is still relevant, 43 years late
@@MarkPMus- they sang it the previous week S02E06
24:31 Griff is a good actor.
It's amazing how much of NTNON I can remember, which is a testament to how good it was. I didn't remember the Guinness sketch though, and that was hilarious. I think the cast thought so too - clearly they didn't know quite what to expect from the foaming prop. I could have done without Pamela Stephenson making Margaret Thatcher look hot though. That's a mental image I don't need.
things you notice: this is a lot funnier than just about everything on tv these days, pamela`s kind of hot with her long blonde hair, i was a bit young at the time to no doubt get all the jokes, but then you can revisit this as an adult, and laugh until your bum falls off, everyone loves a song that they can tap there toes too, and if you have like me the books, then your one lucky person.
So funny how every age has their own armageddon fantasies
Its not a fantasy, we are always on the edge
That quip about British Rail, sounds about right today, lol
Some things never change.
Hell's bloody bells!
32 quid a year!
brilliant!!!! remember it well 😂😂😂😂
Wasn’t Chris Langham part of them at the start?
Shop maid pcychology gag is now more relevant than in 1980
Still a classic controversial comedy sketch show 😅😅 from the early 80s😊
23:08 😂IS THAT HOW PAM MET BILLY???!!
5:50, Cannabis Campaign, LOL!
12:55 was that Rowan's Johnny English audition?
Would love to have wrestled Pamela back in the day, but billy beat me to it 🤔😂
She really did love the Ayatollah.
Now that looks like Billy Connolly as the Ayatollah, but not sure he and Pamela were an item by then.
Wiki says it was the first time they met.
These guys were great back then. Sadly they wouldn't get away with this now.
Not the Nine O'Clock News 1980 S02E07 Death Lasers of Kazaan. 21..1.24. strange how I can recall the lyrics....ummmmmmm.....
I remember Barry Took was quite offended by the skit and when asked why there was no children's version of Points of View replied that there was and it was called Not The Nine O'Clock News
Not The Nine O'Clock News was far funnier than Barry Took.
Which TV presenter is Griff doing a parody of in Medical Grandstand', 13mins onwards?
He is not impersonating anyone, he is doing a general over the top American styled presenter, who hosted these fast paced shows on US television back then, as no presenter on BBC or ITV in 1980 was like this.
Possibly Hughie Green (Opportunity Knocks)?
I remember me mum going beswick over this episode due to the title sequences, she went abs spare as I was only a young teen and she didn't half go on about it all way through... then the famous American Express sketch she caught Pam showing the goods and that was it, banned from watching again :(
At 13:00, the genesis of Johnny English?
Mr bean and friends😊
Looking back, they were very nearly correct
Jeez! How many bloody ads do you have to have in one of your videos because you feel you are getting enough from Google Adsense?
All Ads Are inserted by Google I get Nothing
Legalize cannabis stuff never gets old, even if it legalized everywhere
6:36 What is that game? Some kind of billiards? Never seen that before.
Bar Billiards.
@@VonBlade Once found in most pubs.Alas, no more.
My kind of sketch show, funnier than Python. All the rage when I was at boarding school in the early eighties. This, Minder and the Young Ones were the three most popular shows amongst the kids.
Python at its best - mostly the sketches everyone knows - was brilliant. But when you see whole episodes they aren't nearly as consistently funny as this. I remember they repeated NTNON some time around the late 90s and being highly impressed at how well it stood up. And watching this episode now, it still does.
11:40 old habits
This programme would never be allowed these days, 2023, so sad humour has passed away.
I don't think it has...
I think the problem is people in the industry think they have to be more politically correct but really they're only catering to a fraction of viewers (maybe 10% at best). They don't know what average every day people want, they only know what they're told people want by those with more pull and influence (that are trying to mold us all to think like them). Didn't work in the past and it won't work in the future. Society goes through cycles.
Just like anything...
There's repression, liberation, then repression again
Something's "hip" today that will be lame tomorrow... and then "hip" again 15 years from now
Comedy will return
What would not be allowed
Humour has passed away??? What utter bollocks!
Humour hasnt. Tacky racism has
Don't be silly
Is Kristen Bell Pamela Stephenson's daughter or identical twin?
Who?
I can see it. It's a fairly generic Baltic look though. Sweden, Poland, Russia etc. Pams from New Zealand, but many people there have Northern European ancestors. Hell, "old" Zealand is Baltic.
What on earth has Eurovision got to do with music?
20:39 looking for this
The end sketch always makes me smile as 1980 was the year it really kicked off between us skinheads and Brighton police who commandeered a double decker bus and set to handcuffing us to the seats, made News of the World too and boy did we give the SPG and St Johns Nick a thorough education, many of us were from the fighting firms at Millwall and other London (inferior) teams and we were past masters of the ancient ritual of planting a steel toe capped DM into the lovespuds of someone in uniform.
You sound like a total twat mate. ' I kick people in the bollocks, aren't I great. Wahey let's be skinheads and beat people up what a fuckin wanker
That lot sounds like a script for the sketch itself.
LOL!
Sketch show casts don't khomeini better than this
WW3 TIMES !
Crap, wasn't it?
Amazing how you rip off others but dont want anyone using your content
Wow! I'd forgotten how funny racism is. Woke is the murder of comady.
Simply depicting different races as they sterieotypicaly behave is not racist... there is nothing racist presented in this... "racist stereotypes" are lies that are ment to disrespect a race, but emulating behaviour is not actually racist.
Dreadful.
I seemed to recall that ‘Not The Nine o’Clock News’ was excellent in its day. Strange how it now appears to be drivel with a laugh track.
Appears you just lost your sense of humour.
Do people not know that there is a live audience who are laughing at these sketches?
Maybe you can't remember the real news. A lot of jokes are based on the current affairs of that time. Same with Spitting Image.
The Soviet invasion news look not funny any more
Spot on, I thought. Putin certainly needs the piss taken out of him, big time.
It is about time we admitted this was not funny.
Brilliantly funny!, wouldn't get a 'go' these days with 'political correctness or woke!' Shame!. Nuff said!.
Seems really lame now 40 years later with too many easy targets as the butt of the jokes and Thatcher as the source of every conceivable evil in the world. That said, the cast went on to produce some great and enduring work but they must look back on this now and consider it cringe inducing juvenalia.
Thatch was evil.
Alas smith n jones & mr.bean 😊😅😅 became later 😅 and Johnny English 😅😅..rowan Atkinson & Pamela Stephenson
Yes it is sad but that’s what you get if you let idiots rule
