the Monty Python sketch is actually brilliantly done, i watched the interview with the bishop and the two Monty Python creators and Rowans portrayal as the bishop is spot on

The technical brilliance of the simultaneous translation sketch. Everything Rowan says lines up with what Pam is saying, so even when he is flustered about the translation he has to keep the timing perfect. I wonder how many times Rowan had to do that to get it right.

The first series was always a bit hit and miss, but this episode has two of their best ever sketches, Life of Python and Bosanquet

A sad reminder of just how brilliant a writer and performer Chris was. I worked with him in the 90s and he was one of the best people I ever encountered during my time in the business. Or so I thought. When the news of his crimes came out it felt like adding insult to injury, I had such a high opinion of him. He couldn't have slighted me more if he'd spat in my face. Such a waste of a brilliant mind.

I quite agree. Although his role in NTNON didn't really work, I still hold his comedy during the Secret Policeman's Ball as absolutely classic. The 'just like taking coca...' is one of my favourites. So sorry he let you and so many others down. Apparently he wanted to dominate the show in both writing and performing, yet the reaction to his part in this wasn't very good, hence he was moved on. Don't know if that's true, but it may be indicative of his type of personality.

Agreed. Chris had a troubled childhood, and obviously it set it's mark on him growing up. Abuse of alcohol and cocaine, I mean... the stuff I have seen from Chris in comedy, is brilliant, but I reckon working with an individual who uses such substances, could be rather difficult. Which contributed to him leaving NTNOCN. He did have guest roles in Smith and Jones, which was terrific.
And then the stuff that came in 2007, which was a devastating blow to us all. I mean, the court could not confirm nor deny why he did it, but he did had to register as an offender.

Langham was actually upset by the Life of Christ sketch in this episode, and it was one of the reasons he was replaced by Griff Rhys Jones.

@@HampsteadOwl However, he did have guest appearances in Smith & Jones, where he was actually much more funny. In the sketches like, After Midnight/After Closing Time. His timing was just impeccable there.

He was wonderful in George Orwell: A Life in Pictures, the first series of The Thick of It and Help. With regard to his offences, he has served his time and demonstrated remorse, so I'm not really sure what can be gained dredging through all that ground again.
