Lyrics:
So close, yet so far away
So close, yet so far away
We believe in tomorrow, maybe more than today
We're so close, so close, yet so far away
#DarylHall #JohnOates #HallandOates #SoClose #PopRock #ChangeofSeason - Hudba
Probably the most underrated Hall & Oates tune.
In 2005 in Birmingham UK I requested this song during the concert. Daryl said they couldn’t play it because there were new musicians in the band. Next day we spoke to Daryl again and he said he was sorry that they couldn’t play So close. Two days later we were at their concert in Manchester and at a certain moment Daryl said that they got a request the other day and that they had been practising. At that moment John pointed his finger at me and I asked So Close and he said Yes. They gave us a perfect performance of So close and Daryl threw me his guitar pick/plectrum. One of the best moments in my life ❤
Wow
Wow!! That’s awesome!
"I don't wanna be wise; I just want to stay young". One of the most insightful (yet never appreciated) lyrics in music history
Very true.
Middle age is gonna hit the millennials hard, just like it did the boomers👍
Yeah because when you're old you are wise. But don't you know youth is wasted on the young and wisdom is wasted on the old?
Being young or wise is still so cliche
Obviously everyone here appreciates the lyrics.
One of the best Hall and Oates songs!
That Jon Bon Jovi wrote
They scored top twenty hits for 15 years - almost unheard of longevity. This was their last one , peaked at #11 in 1990
Always loved Daryl Hall & John Oates and grew up with their music, but I feel like as I near 50 years-old, I'm really growing into them. Their music resonates more than ever. Truly the greatest Duo in music history.
Agree but Heart is right there
Daryl Hall is perfection.
Always & Forever!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💕
Agreed. Beautiful .
I can still feel, and smell that summer when this song plays. I don't know why. That is all.
Me too.1989 and 1990 were pivotal years in my life.
I get it…
I know exactly what you mean. Junior year at college for me. Some of the best times of my life.
Hey🎉me too memories from a smell and music🎶❤❤❤❤
@@djg3996Junior year of high school for me, friend! 👍❤️
Winter 1990-91. I am driving home from a course I am taking that is related to my new Government job. I have a girlfriend (who I don't love any more) and a 2 year old daughter (that i love with all my heart). This song comes on the radio, and I start balling my eyes out thinking of the girl that got away. Years later, hearing this song still transports me to that late winter afternoon and brings back those same emotions.
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice to meet you on here.
I just woke up singing this song from out of the blue. It's just as great as it ever was. So close. This song has crept into my mind on so many fitting occasions over the past 30yrs. This song is a hit on every level
Great rock and roll song from the dying days of Rock in the early 90's. Danger Danger, Heart, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Boston, Bryan Adams...all had some very underappreciated songs during that time.
I was in Junior High when this song came out. I would give up everything to go back in time and live in the 90's and never leave that era. Ever.
A very underrated album by Hall and Oates. Unfortunately once 1985 passed, the music industry stopped marketing them as a top act anymore. Happens to everyone except for a few music artists. This album was a byproduct of the unplugged craze going on in 1990.
Why?
They will always be #1
Don't care what anyone says ❤
Hall and Oates signed with Arista Records in 1986. This album, Change of Season, was the 2nd and final album for the act on Arista Records.
I miss good songs with nice, understandable lyrics. I can listen to the sweet sounds of Hall n Oates all day!
LYRICS
They met on the dance floor in the old high school gym
He fell like a rock, she kinda liked him
And his heart beat like thunder as they moved cross the floor
When the music was over she slipped out of his arms
And out of the door, yes you did
Yeah a man loves a woman but he can't understand
Why she's sad when she stares at the ring on her hand
Or she sits in some club where the long shadows fall
Drop a coin in the jukebox not the phone on the wall
So close, yet so far away
So close, yet so far away
We believe in tomorrow maybe more than today
We're so close, so close, yet so far away
Some people think if you really believe
That's what you need to solve all the mysteries
Yeah I know someone who just heads for the sun
(She says)
"I don't wanna be wise, I just wanna stay young"
So close, yet so far away
So close, yet so far away
We believe in tomorrow, but we stuck in today
Baby we're so close, so close, so far away
There's a restless look in your eye tonight
There's a secret hurt in my heart
(So close)
And the dream that pulls us together girl
Is a dream that's gonna tear us, tear us apart
There's a restless look in your eye tonight
Are you looking for somewhere, end up here
(I see you looking in my eye)
We gotta fight, to keep it together girl
For the dreams that keeps us
So close, yet so far away
So close, yet so far away
The who would've thought girl that we end up this way
Given so close, so close, so far away
We're livin' in a dream world
(So close, so far away)
But we live in today, girl
(So close, so far away)
Just you and me baby
(So close, so far away)
Baby side by, side by, side by
Side by, side by, side by, side (So close, so far away)
(So close, so far away)
So close, so far away
So close
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Daryl Hall is so passionate.
This song is so soulful and expressive! They not only sing the lyrics - they embody them.
And "The dream that brings us together...is the dream that's gonna tear us apart."-Isn't that the truth between Daryl and John and their current situation...
It’s melodies like these that pulls you more into the aura of Hall & Oates! ✨
Daryl Hall and John Oates, you are unforgetable.
1990.....that was when this song was released. Man....they don't make songs like this these days.....
they dont make bands like this anymore.
Go view the video of Jason Mzaz and Daryl Hall doing it at Daryl's House (Live From Daryl's House - So Close -). It is a freaking truly amazing rendition. They need to release it again under this rendition.
@@mojomanmurph1925 just listened to it, loved it. Came back to thank you for suggesting it, now I'm back to listen to it again and again...
Search Retrowave and other types of Retro Music. Yes they do. Just not for the radio?

Absolutely

If I am not mistaken, Jon Bon Jovi wrote the song
Just checked.... he produced it
My favourite by them 🤘🏼
Greatest Duo
I know I know I know my brother. I mean it seems so close but I don't know what to do or refuse to do what I'm supposed to do, pray for me brother
We have all been SO CLOSE! Give props to this song and message...I just wish I could Have been more courageous as a young man...
What a really great version of this song!! It feels a lot like yesterday. This is the ultimate album version, as opposed to the acoustic "only" version. It's much better this way, and it's so much fun hearing this great song like this, because it really jams away with guitar, bass and drums!! The keyboard accompaniment sounds like heaven as well!! A legendary band Hall, and Oates were. Having originated in Philly, they set the example of real music: the way it's supposed to be played. Now that's what I call real music!!!!

*sigh* So beautiful.
I had my first kiss to this song 🙈
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice to meet you on here.
I was lucky to grow up around this time, when music made you feel good. Always grateful to H&O for all the fantastic, timeless music.
1:25 THE LOOK OF DARYL IS SO POWERFUL!!
'We believe in tomorrow, maybe more than today.'
Ah, how good is that!
Love peace and respect to Hall & Oates for sharing their talent and beauty.☺
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice to meet you on here.
This reminds me of my ex boyfriend. The pain it would bring me I would cry. To this day it still does. That's what love does to a person. He still has my heart 💓. He doesn't even know it. Thank you Hall and Oates. God Bless you.
I forgot about this song I loved it then and now I love Darryl hall and John Oates there so beautiful together good job it makes me happy and that’s hard to do lol 😂

Maybe the best modulation in any song ever. Love Daryl's soulful writing skills!

So close yet so far away...so true 💔
Hey there! How are you today? It’s nice to meet you on here.
Best song I've ever heard on the radio.
I forgot how much I love this song! Yay!! Rock and roll hall of fame, here comes H&O!!
Have not heard this in years. Takes me back to seventh grade, fall of 1990, especially the line "just heads for the sun."
It was not a good time for me, but I liked the song. It seemed we knew at the time that Hall & Oates had already run their course, and that this was a last gasp, at least on the pop charts.
Sounds like my story. Hugs.
Not the only album I remember.......but I remember a certain album from 1973........long time since then, but Darryl would be nothing without John in my book n I'm glad they had such a hold of the soundtrack to my life
I saw these guys in concert when I was just twelve years old… It was a great show and just hearing them sing takes me back to that time. It was awesome
Such a beautiful song and Daryl & John's voices blend beautifully with this fantastic song. They are truly one rich sounding duo that have lasted 40 decades of wonderful music. Duos have come and gone, but these two will forever play a central part of one of the best in history. For me, I'm happy to have seen them in concert back in the 80s and forever a fan since then.
Hello there! How are you doing today? It’s nice to meet you on here.
I Don't wannabe wise
I just wanna stay young 🎶
Saw these guys at a free summer concert in Coney Island with my best mate a decade ago. I was so close yet so far away (in the crowd, haha). Good times. :)
Are u a Maneater
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice to meet you on here.
Co written by John Bonjovi. I got to hear them in concert 1978 outside a NYC club.It was like 0 outside but man they rocked! We saw them in NJ 2017 still sound great!
I've never heard that intro before! I thought they remade the song. Man I've loved this since 1990
How does this amazing song only have this many views? That's a crime!!
Great song from underrated cd

Another great song from that era, I remember when Power 108 WPHR played that song . I was a senior in high school, nursing my dislocated knee listening to this song.

Summer of 1990 anyone? This song really rocked back then.
It still rocks
Saw them live in Glasgow twice - brilliant brilliant brilliant
Newcastle 1990, best concert of my life
They are amazing live. I saw them twice. First times was at Live Aid in Philly. I also saw them in 1990 when they toured to support the So Close album.
