Re Ukraine: Many people wondering if Map Men are legitimising the Russian annexation of Crimea at 2:39. We are not. We had intended to make Crimea a different colour, as a way of saying 'look, sticky outy bit that's also currently disputed', but we just forgot to do it. We are sorry. This CZcams account is not, actually, a Kremlin propaganda bot.
I will not write a comment about that then
But that's exactly what a Kremlin propaganda bot would say!
You forgot to Putin a different colour for Crimea?
You sure?

It's so fucking incredible to me that you nail the expression for anger in Paraguay, because contrary of what everyone must asume we won't react in spanish in that situation. Let me explain: the expression "nde" it's in guaraní (the native lenguage of the country still speak till this day alongside spanish) and it's so crazy because if you try to translate it it's literally "You", so you have to have so inside knowlege to know that's also used like the expression "hey! 😡" 3:14

When this stupid pandemic is over, Jay needs to bring back his live songs, and this needs to be the first thing he plays.
Amazing video! My 13yo is totally obsessed by this -- enough so that he's dragged me down the hole. I ended up writing a program to calculate the squareness of countries, and according to my metric Egypt is indeed the winner at 89.5% square, followed by (North) Sudan and Cote D'Ivoire both at just over 83%. Interestingly (to me at least), these seem to be the only countries that score higher than a circle, which scores exactly 2*sqrt(2)-2, or roughly 0.828, on my metric. So rejecting countries for being "too round" may not be valid, at least not if you're interested in finding square-ish countries beyond the top 3.

I love that the Japanese speech bubble was signed “a male map” or perhaps "a map of males" rather than map men
Zoo
It could also mean 'a man's map' as in a map (maps) owned by a man or a map (maps) for men. Time code: 01:30.

For Britain's skill at drawing straight lines through Africa, they managed to make surprisingly few square countries.
I am very dissapointed in my country
Egypt?
@@loqi453 still very few. And it my memory serves i don't think Britain was involved with Egypts borders. My comment was really more about the colonial powers in general (france, belgium etc). map men being translated as "男性の地図” (dansei no chizu) in japanese is so funny to me, it's literally "men's map" or "a man's map". took me a while to realise it was supposed to be map men lol. a more accurate way to say it would be 地図の男性 (chizu no dansei), lit. "map's men"
the whole thing translates as
"dear volunteer,
can you translate this sentence?
thank you!
men's map"
EDIT: i just put into google translate basically what i wrote above except with "thanks a lot" and "map men" and it came out with the exact phrasing in the video which honestly makes the whole thing even funnier
Men's map, men's map, men's men's men's map!. map... map...
Oh yeah, I remember that the "no" possessive being the other way around from the Indo-European languages I was used to was really confusing to me when I was learning a bit of Japanese! I guess they fell into the same trap.
"We are the map, and here are the men!"
Came here to post the translation, the "dear" here is dear as in "deep affection", notably not a letter opening(which would be more like "ボランティアへ" (To volunteer,).
男性の地図(dansei no chizu) could also be translated as "map of men", as in a map showing where men are; 地図の男性 (chizu no dansei) is still more correct with this interpretation, meaning men of map, or men of the map(s)
thanks, I've been looking for this comment! My Japanese skills are just about enough to go "that must be a mistake, right?"

We've all got thyme on our hands at the moment.
Palestine.
I think they forgot Taiwan.
Can you do this for the Every Tube Station song as well please?
"no countries were missing"
Palestine and Taiwan: *Are we a joke to you*
Was anyone else really suprised by the lack of the Map Men intro song? I thought the cold open was just lasting longer than usual, took me until botswana to come to terms with it
"Took me until Botswana to come to terms with it" is a lovely phrase
@@Kimberton149 If there's any country to come to terms with, it's Botswana. Or maybe Belgium, either one.
@@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 idk mate, i'm just thankful it wasn't lesotho, then i coulda been in a bad place
I love how they're like:
"That's a stupid, horrible, dumb, bad, horrible, stupid question."
"We must answer it immediately."
"Yes, of course."
This needs to be released as a song!
The Monty Python energy in this one is stronger than usual
The Animaniacs Energy
And bonus points for the H2G2 reference
The amount of brainstorming and the number of times seeing the world map for writing this song can only be the work of these two geniuses
Yes
Now you have 193 like, which is like the 69 for geography nerds
@@aagamjain1395 Indeed! Now that you mention it, that would make it a lot of effort! Thanks for mentioning it!
Yakko's world walked so that the squarest country could run.
I literally guessed it from the beginning. Too good. (In my opinion its honestly more like a triangle, but everyone always argues with me about it)
"Poland would look like a square if it invaded to the south"
Czechs: *Ah sht here we go again*
Poland Invades: check mate
@@thewhovianhippo7103 ha check
Hello
Well you need reason to invade country, so I think that Poland would invade to obtain strategical resources, such as the resource of - '' Church '' - which is greatly valued in the Polish land, Czechs would however launch offensive to the north, capturing the strategical resource of - '' Brewery '' - which is to utter importance for Czech mates.
Well, Poland is very square in shape. Even without Czechia
I'm egyptian , I was enjoying the song so much that I didn't thought of egypt as the right answer
The ultimate geography nerd challenge: recite this song by memory while pointing at the countries on a map
