    Excellent vids. Both of them. I enjoyed your comments too, and the look around inside the cab. The Benny Hill type music was very fitting as you wizzed around.

    Love the countryside you are travelling through, full of greenery, misty mountains in the distance and other scenic views. The drone shots are captivating. The music is pleasant. You talking to us make us feel welcomed and taken a good care of. Very much appreciated! Thank you! :)

    Thank you very much for these two videos from the Solor line! It´s amazing how well this line is kept in order, even though it´s only used by freight trains. In Germany, many pure freight lines can only be driven at speeds of 40 or 50 km/h.
    A very nice area where you live! For Central Europeans it is always nice to see the many greenery and in this video the blooming heather. As they say "You live where other people go on vacation".
    The drone footage made the video even more interesting. Thank you for the recordings, the comments and the effort that goes into it!

      Thx again for commenting Dieter. There are several "reduced speed zones" now. A long 60 zone starts in Våler and ends way past Braskereidfoss. Then there is a new one before Elverum. Been like this since winter. But they usually fix it :D

    Nice video! Reminds me when I was in the millitary at Haslemoen camp in the seventies. I took the train to/from Våler station some times. It was a single waggon DMU and it sounded like it had manual gears :-)

      Hi Sam. I took the train to Våler when i was a kid. I lived in northern Norway then and took the train to visit my grandparents. To bad they closed down Haslemoen camp. A lot of locals worked there.

    An amazing video, full of fantastic scenery and information. Living in the UK it is hard to believe that rivers can be so wide, and have such a still mirror surface. We were taught when I was at school that Scandinavian countries were covered in Pine forests, so it was a surprise when you said about leaves on the rails, which is a UK rail problem down to the number of deciduous trees we have here, and have caused criticism of our rail operators for late or cancelled trains.

    • @thenorwegiantraindriver4788
      @thenorwegiantraindriver4788  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Engels. They are finally cutting down some of the trees closest to the rails now. But it's slow, and there is the wind that tends to blow leaf around :D This problem causes wheel damage for millions each year when the wheels spin to such high velocities that the emergency break kicks in and blocks all the wheels on the train :(

      @EngelsNederfiele Před 3 lety

      @@thenorwegiantraindriver4788 There has been a lot of tree clearance lineside in the UK too. Unfortunately it isn't consistent to the point that in some areas if it rains the weight of the water causes branches to droop and get hit by passing trains: it is a problem on UK roads too!

    How long does it take to load a full train like that?

  • @Sorbe1
    @Sorbe1 Před 2 lety

    I was surprised at the manual switching of the points. Are they only automatic on the main lines / passager tracks? Seemed pretty "old school" especially in an area controlled by a station master.
    For model train tracks like Märklin , hitting the switch points from the backside when set wrong is not a problem for operations. I assume on the propotype that it's a disastrous, potentially derailing event. Seems like getting this right is an absolutely crucial part of being train driver on these manually switched tracks.

    • @thenorwegiantraindriver4788
      @thenorwegiantraindriver4788  Před 2 lety

      Hi Sorbe and thanks for commenting and asking. Solør line is a so called "line without remote control". So everything is manual here. Even the signals on the station must be turned manually. I think the remote switches are so expencive that they only use them at passenger traffic spots. They don't care that much if a freight train driver must stand in snow and figh the switches :D (some switches have heat tho, so the switching points have melted). In Sweden they have some switches you can "open" driving over them, then they fall back after, but not in Norway.

  • @hackenbush23
    @hackenbush23 Před 2 lety

    Very interesting video, thanks for posting. One question, when the train is loaded and departs from the siding back to the mainline who resets the switch and replaces the derail? Do you have to walk the length of your train twice to do it once the train is back on the mainline? or does the Stationmaster come out to lock up after you have departed?

    • @thenorwegiantraindriver4788
      @thenorwegiantraindriver4788  Před 2 lety

      Hi Hack and thx for commenting and asking! That varies. In this video from Elverum we must do it ourselves, and walk a lot! But in Lillehammer train leader fix it remotely. When they set signal to green the road barriers go down, train barriers go of and switches is correct. So we just drive out :) Love that
