great job
Your abiility to explain things is impressive. New techs could learn a lot from you, heck even old techs like me could as well. Keep it up bk
I have to tell you.!
You are very awesome at going step by step and, working first at your power and working from there..
I see to many techs.grab the gauges first..
But i was taught start with electricity and then components!
You demonstrated this textbook!
Once again, very awesome tutorial and video explaining the process!
I will continue to watch your videos, and learn something new everyday,
Even at 35 years in commercial refrigeration trade.im still learning something new everyday!
Thanks again,
Appreciate your time and most importantly your talking thru explaining...

Hey there. Love watching your videos. Keep up the good work. I am an electrician that is trying to switch over to ac work because I like a challenge. 😁 I learn something new in every video. In reference to your question of why the secondary side of the transformer is grounded, it's for two reasons. The first reason is safety, as you mentioned in video. It provides a return path for current. The second reason is to provide a "reference plane" for current. It helps to balance out the voltage in an unbalanced situation and keep voltage from climbing too high or low. When I'm at work and a device (light or ceiling fan) isnt working and my meter says 87 volts. It's usually an open neutral. Anyway, keep up the great work. Love your videos and hopefully I'll be starting hvac school soon. Have a great day.
Always nice to actually find the culprit and see it in person, nice work!
Thank you very much for your teaching,it’s very instructive God Bless
Thanks Sal
Great video The world needs more techs like you I run an HVAC company in northern Utah and I have all kinds of problems Getting good HVAC technicians but take time to figure the problem out without ever having a call back.
There is a shortage of good techs everywhere. I am not an owner, just a tech, but I have seen enough "techs" repair a system only to have me go back and find out why it went down 20 minutes after they left. Btw Utah is a beautiful state.
@@curioushvacguy6876 i am in new Jersey. I went to utah for a week. No idea about pay rate for hvac there.
👍👍❤❤
Thanks for splitting the bad part it's always reassuring when you can make sense of what happened!
Don’t forget bro, you can also have a short leg to leg. Not always to ground.
Great video bro.
* don’t stick your fingers inside the pulley 😂😂
Thanks for the tips Rookie- much appreciated--
Don’t stick your fingy where you wouldn’t stick your dingy
Great video, I also cringed when he put his finger in the pulley. Safety first.
Rookie & Curious I have learned a lot from you guys. Thank you.
I love how you take parts apart and show why they stoped working.
Thanks
Always repeat (ALWAYS) be safe and take your time when voltage is involved!! There are 1000's upon 1000's of units...but...only (1) YOU! Great video and advice! Stay safe! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks I have learned a new thing today
Glad to help
Enjoy watching you videos I like the way you step through testing the components of a system to find a short or root cause of the failure, then repair, replace as needed, and try not overlook anything Like a loose belt or wire rub outs. Find myself learning something new on each of your Video's, help ing me in the field, keep them comming and Thank you for the education, I try to pass it on to new tecs that work with me.
Thanks
Very thorough investigation bro. Not many guys would go that far. Keep the videos coming.🤘
Thank you.
Your videos are very helpful.
Always learning something new from you.
👍👍👍👍👍
Step down transformer secondaries are grounded for reference, voltage stabilization, and safety. Be aware not all transformers are internally grounded so never rely on chassis ground for reference when troubleshooting a 24 volt circuit...
Great vid. Good For teaching. The only thing I would suggest is on the switching relay where you have exposed high voltage terminals to put insulated spade terminals on there to keep from accidentally shorting thru by a screwdriver or worse a hand.
Good tip!
Big fan of. The bucket technique myself. Good vid. Keep it up brotha.
Check out Amazon Plano 5 gallon bucket topper organizer
That was great finding what had happened when you did the post mortem on the relay, reassuring to know the cause was correctly diagnosed.
Recently the kitchen exhaust hood company came out for their maintenance. Afterwards a 277 volt breaker similar to that shown would not reset.
Care to guess how much for just the breaker? Part only from wholesaler ?
$1500
If pin 2 and 4 on the switching relay is normaly closed. Isn't then always mains exposed on these pins when the blower is off and better to cap these two pins off?
Good stuff man 👍 cheers from Yuma Arizona
Thanks Luke
Like I said you touch it you own it every time
Thats right man- thats why you have to be really careful- thanks for the feedback
You’re amazing , fun , and makes the job look easy !
Very helpful learning tips , keep the videos coming, and vote trump and Republicans only !
great video, sometimes we all have to slow down doesnt matter what our bosses say. better to spend a little more time on this then coming back to unsatified customer.
learning a lot keep the videos coming.
Your textbook approach of safety first and thorough visual inspection before detailed troubleshooting begins should be in a training video at HVAC schools. Your voice is that of an accomplished instructor. You might want to consider teaching as a HVAC side job. You would be excellent❗️
Another great video from Bearded wonder. Keep them coming
The relay destroyed itself and shorted so no wonder why the breaker tripped because it has been running on a heavy load for a while!
Nice work. Glad to see you checking amps. I see so many not doing this.
I was kind of afraid that beard would get sucked into the pulley! 😆
I am start to watching you videos ,,,regards from Europe,,,
Great video.just a question when checking the compressor for ground, dont u need to take of the wires from the terminals?
Love watching your videos. HOW DO I GET A STICKER?
Hey bud- just shoot me an email with your address curioushvacguy@gmail.com
I believe an air pressure switch should come standard to prove fan operation but unfortunately is an option on most RTUs. Such a small item is very useful to diagnose the supply fan & interlock the other components.
Awesome I learned a lot!
Spoiler for the impatient. FF to 18:55
I have had some fun times trying to find out why 0-10v actuators not closing and transducers showing incorrect values. Usually it is because the 0v on the transformer 24v side is not grounded so the 0v reference point "floats".
Thanks for the video.
Sorry idd never work on anything that has460volts ac line
The heat exchanger didn't look that bad to me? A little surface rust. When did you leave ZZ Top and start doing HVAC work?
Good video .....👍
HEY MAN GREAT VIDEOS HOW DO I GET A STICKER
You have to be pretty far downstate michigan for it to be that hot out. Up here in the north we're getting maybe high 80's.
First off you should gave seen if blower was frozen
Nice, Keep the video coming.
So where can I buy a Curious HVAC Guy branded bucket? 🤔 good video, thanks!
Yeah Buddy Great Vid curious
HAVAC guy your very meticulous.
Love your videos. Doing this in my 39th year and still enjoy these videos. Thanks from Geoff in Granite City Illinois. Keep them coming
Good find and fix a usual Bro.💪. At 19:30 time. Get that Beard out the way!!! In my Homer Simpson voice. 😂😂😂. Keep'em coming Bro. Good stuff. 👍👍✌✌
I'm just curious as to why you didn't check the compressor from the windings to the compressor case for a dead short?
@@curioushvacguy6876 Got it sorry
Great video! How long have you been doing hvac?
@@curioushvacguy6876 I've been doing hvac for 8 years now. Did duct installation my first 4 years and have been doing service for 4 years now. Si habló español.
I wish I had a meter with magnets my fluke never did .
Yeah bud its a game changer, super handy
Super glue and some neodymium magnetic work well
Nice
This makes me want to go commerical even more
Currently I’m trying to get into a compnay that does it since I’m mostly res and have started to work on a couple rtu and for the most part I’ve been abale to figure it out but I figure if I can get into a compnay that does commercial and I can learn it will open more doors for me I would like to learn controls just sucks when there a lot of techs that don’t know what there doing n I can’t learn from them
Prob getting hired by this company next week and hopefully I can learn a lot just know shit going be a lot different then resdential but I’ll try get as any training I can and I’ll order that book tonight thank
I would rather not put my finger in that pulley spokes. Just in case.
True
Your hands would be yanked out
