E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) SYNOPSIS: After a gentle alien becomes stranded on Earth, the being is discovered and befriended by a young boy named Elliott (Henry Thomas). Bringing the extraterrestrial into his suburban California house, Elliott introduces E.T., as the alien is dubbed, to his brother and his little sister, Gertie (Drew Barrymore), and the children decide to keep its existence a secret. I heard recently that directors like for accidents like that to happen in their movies. That's why the actors keep going until someone says "cut".
That's true. Robert said that he wasn't expecting that to happen and it scared him real good, so his screaming in this scene was actually genuine, LOL!
yep. Spielberg and even Robert himself has stated he didn't know he was backing into the shelves until after the fact. But they left it in because it enhanced his reaction.
I saw Drew's show recently when she had Henry, Robert, and Dee on to commemorate the film's 40th anniversary and Robert did mention that yes he had no clue the shelves were collapsing behind him, but Spielberg did know before he just didn't tell him cause he wanted a surprise reaction, the prop people were behind the wall of the set and right when Robert stepped back was when they pulled the pins out for the shelves to collapse.

Drew Berrymore was such a cutie when she was little and I have watched her grow up Firestarter, Cat's Eye, 15 And Getting Straight, ET made her a super star. Mad Love, Batman Forever, Poison Ivy, Doppleganger The Evil With In, The Wedding Singer,
Blended, Gun Crazy Bad Girls, and now after all of the work she has done making a huge come back she finally got the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Drew won a Golden Globe and I hope she wins an Oscar one day. ET scared me when I saw this movie back in 1982 and it was huge blockbuster back then. Drew Berrymore had her share of demons and did drugs and she went through a lot during her teen years. But she was a huge movie star. John Berrymore would be so proud. Drew appeared on the Actors Studio.

Steven Spielberg admitted that when he was a kid he would tease his sisters that way. It's actually not unlike how my older brother would tease me a little bit when I was younger, so when Michael did that I immediately thought, "Yep, just like my brother," LOL!

Lol!!! Terrified me too seeing it on vhs when I was 4 and 5 but I ended up loving this movie! Still kind of creeps me out with the neck stretch and finger pointing, big eyes and the weirdness of some of the movie but still an all time favorite.

It's crazy how the species of E.T. is officially apart of the Star Wars canon as they were seen in the senate in the prequel trilogy. So is it fair to say that the whole story of E.T. is a part of the Star Wars universe? I think Elliot would've been a better choice for a jedi than Rey, that's for sure.

1:35 OMG! Drew Barrymore was just a child when this film was released. That's amazing. This must be Spielberg's magnum opus film, considering that the film company "Amblin" owned by him would use the flying bikes over the forrest trees as their logo and Spielberg himself almost always seems to be wearing an ET: The Extraterrestrial cap whenever he's portrayed in or referenced in other media.
