After Elliot returns home, he finds that Gertie (Drew Barrymore from Charlie’s Angels) has helped teach the alien to talk, and Elliot then decides to name the alien E.T. E.T. then attempts to explain that he intends to build a machine to communicate with his home planet, so they can come to get him.

What’s the E.T movie about?
An unidentified flying object lands in the middle of the night near Los Angeles. A few aliens on an exploration mission emerge, but one of them ventures a little too far into the city. He then discovered human civilization. Elliot (Henry Thomas from Legends of the Fall) rescues and hides him as US government agents search for him. Elliot and E.T. form a deep friendship and with his siblings he helps him get home.

I love that at first Elliot is completely embarrassed that his friend is dressed up so ridiculously and then is amazed that his little sister taught the guy English.
I love how Gertie tries to show the alien to her mom, despite promising not to do exactly that the previous day. She later spills the beans to Agent Keys. You cannot trust this girl to keep a secret.

Notice that they had an Atari 2600 on top of the TV, the same console this franchise would help destroy within a year.

I remember watching when the cast went to Hawaii. It looks ridiculous now trying to mix Hawaiian culture with their Native American friend who has a teepee. Unfortunately, I was too old when they explained to Big Bird that Mr. Hooper died. Then came 3/8 of the grownups believing Big Bird really had a friend named, Snuffy before finally meeting them.

Is it just me, or does Drew Barrymore look just Heather O’ Rourke from the original “Poltergeist” movie.?
She did read for Carol Anne (the part that Heather played) but Spielberg felt Drew wasn't right for the part and had a lot of personality. He knew she'd be perfect as Gertie :) Because E.T. and Poltergeist were basically filming at the same time all the kids, and dogs) from both movies got to hang out together!
I just realized that the featured animated sketch from Sesame Street about the letter B has a voiceover done by Casey Kasem.

@@fakereality96 :) I was a bit too young for one when they came out but I remember them and I always saw them in these great 80s movies. Last year they reissued the Speak-and-Spell just like the original was and I got one for Christmas! I was amazed at how it was not only so authentic but also entertaining and educational even for an adult :D
