A giant pipe wrench and 2 narrow strips of 1/4" plate act as a great brake in a pinch.

Just my two cents. One thing I’m noticing is your craftsmanship. My welding instructor once told me “make every weld like your life depends on it”. I like how you do it the right way, not necessarily the easiest way. You can teach a guy all day how to work, but teaching someone to take pride in what they do is where the real value is. You give us welders a good name man.

Clove Worx that’s a great way to word it. I’d like to see a video about that, explaining why craftsmanship is important in every industry, especially welding. You want to be known as the guy who’s work is top notch.

    • @seamuswalsh37

Adam Everitt in my view from what ive picked up on. Craftsmenship is important because it shows that the one doing to the crafting actually cares about what level of quality his product maintains, they want to be there. And people who are paying for the work generally want someone who is greatfull to do the work and maintains a level of pride in his craft. It comes down to this. Only two things you got are your name and your word. If you give your word that youll provide good work a gurantee is held to your name at the end up the day. This guy can do it. Have pride in what you do.

When cutting plate steel. Get a length of angle iron and tac it down to the plate. Leave just enough room for your touch tip Tres against the angle for a straight edge. Make sure your touch is on the line . This will prevent your plate from warping and allow for a perfect straight cut

It's a very good idea to have an access panel above the in-tank fuel pump. It drastically reduces replacement time and you won't have to fight a full tank on a transmission jack etc because you can leave the tank in place. It'll save you considerable labor if you pay others to work on your vehicle.

@@claytonclark463 in my opinion, it's worth it. There is so much you can do if you know how to weld. You can work on the pipeline, make trailers, make boilers, make tables, etc there is literally over a thousand things you can do with a welder. Heck you can build fence and cattle pens, repair heavy equipment, do automotive body work the list just goes on. I would consider taking a welding class, especially if it is free.

... personal opinion... you just shot the integrity of the floor of that box with all the slits... you gave it room to flex with the weight of 8 or 9 jack stands it will sag in the middle after a while and every time you throw one in if you don't place it in the Box so my personal opinion put some angle iron in and tack weld to the bottom plate and go up the side walls at least 1 inch

Bevel, backing strip, 6010 root pass, 7018 filler & cap. Cut, grind, polish, and etch with naval jelly to see how you did. Holes, inclusions, undercut, arc strikes, or a void showing lack of penetration, and it's a fail.
Thickness of material is part of the test, too. 1/4" plate takes less time than 1/2" plate, and a lot less filler. But, whatever thickness you pass your certification on, any thickness under that is included in your certification for that position. I.E.- you don't have to take a 1/4" 1G plate test cert if you already have one for 1/2". Doesn't apply to hiring in though; you take whatever test they give you to get the job, whether you have the certification or not.
