  • The final Aurigny G-JOEY joy-ride around Guernsey.
    On Saturday 20th June 2015 Joey flew 5 joyrides, a record for one day. Every flight was a sell out. Joey is being withdrawn from service on Sunday 28th June.
    This flight GR758 was the last of the 5 and piloted by Captain Dave Gillespie.
    Fog was coming in and we nearly didn't fly but Joey did us proud. We love the Trislander engine sound. turn it up loud on your PC, stick the bass up full and feel the vibration as your ear drums disintegrate.
    G-JOEY was built in 1975. It's always been owned by Aurigny and has put in 40 years of service. I've been on him countless times in those 40 years.
    I am hoping Aurigny keep him in Guernsey to see out his retirement but we'll have to wait until the end of the month for the announcement.
    Aurigny still have at least one other airworthy example G-RLON that has flown a lot more than Joey.
    Joey has done around 30,000 hours and 90,000 landings, approx.
    We'll be sad to see him go.
    The flight lasted 18 minutes wheels up to landing.

    Thanks! Brings back memory's of flying on Will's Air Tri-Islanders out of Nantucket Island Massachusetts, back in the 80's.

      julie gillespie Please thank your husband. He didn't give up despite earlier fog and he indulged us we were allowed to spend as much time as we wanted after the flight taking pictures, posing with his captain's hat at the controls. It's a sorry time as never again will we be able to sit so close to the pilot. Sad days.

    Just discovered this, as Joey has recently been added to Microsoft flight simulator, and I was curious as to how accurate it’s been modelled. Fantastic video - thank you very much !!

    Of breton origin from St Brieuc I used to take them sometimes to "go" to Jersey or Guernsey ! What a view each time ! Professional talented pilots ! When some (too rare) from my other countrymen flew with me, they were all delighted Alike !! And the Sound ! Yes, the Sound !

    Thoroughly enjoyed that superb video, thank you. Going back to Guernsey on hols in June 2016 for the first time in 9 years, gonna miss that distinctive sound of the Trislander's Lycoming engines!

    One advantage of the trislander's cabin noise level was that you barely hear the screaming kids.

    yes. joey is still outside the Aurigny hangar. He's going to a visitor attraction that's yet to be built at Oatlands Guernsey. Another 2 remain in service but are due to be retired by the end of the year. Time is running out if you want to experience the Trislander sound on board.

  • @LordSandwichII
    @LordSandwichII Před 8 lety +1

    Lol! You know you're flying in a small airliner when the bus taking you to the plane is bigger than the plane itself!
    Say, I didn't know you could fly the Trislander with one pilot!

    • @goodshipkaraboudjan
      @goodshipkaraboudjan Před 8 lety +1

      Trislander would be fine single pilot I'd imagine. Never flown one but a Metro is approved for single pilot ops and it's a far bigger handful.

      @LordSandwichII Před 8 lety +1

      Isn't the Metro a turboprop? I was under the impression that all turboprop planes had a minimum crew of 2 in Europe?

    • @goodshipkaraboudjan
      @goodshipkaraboudjan Před 8 lety +1

      I fly in Australia not Europe so not sure what the rules are there sorry. Yes a Metro is a turboprop, as long as you're not doing RPT the type is authorised for single pilot ops. We use them for night freight here. Same with things like Kingairs, multi turboprop but the RFDS do single pilot ops in them and so does just about every operator. The RAAF however have 2 crew in their Kingairs. I've only known other smaller turboprops like C441s etc do be single pilot.

      @mydadisbald9175 Před 8 lety +2

      +PlatinumRow no problem mate! The only reason why I know so much about this marvellous aircraft is because it flies from my home town, Southampon! I have seen it fly for as long as I can remember of course, since it's over 40 years old and I'm 13 ;) I hear it's beautiful sound almost every day as it lands or takes off! I would be delighted to fly on one of the Trislanders one of these days ;)

    • @Radiosutch
      @Radiosutch  Před 8 lety +2

      +JSFIFA You had better hurry up if you want to fly on a Trislander as Aurigny will retire the last two in service at Easter. Mind you they keep putting it back but sooner or later the date will come.
      I have suggested they have some more joy rides before they go but no response!

    • @Radiosutch

      Yes and the windows were held in by bathroom sealant. There was one incident in Alderney years ago, one overran the runway. A pax tried to open the emergency exit, which is just the window, and he couldn't open it with the tough bath sealant used. I think they still use it but don't apply it with a trowel now, just a thin bead.
