  • Joe Kovacs, World Champion shot putter, Olympic Silver Medallist and Rogue Athlete has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming Olympic Trials in June 2024.
    His preparation combines heavy strength training and mobility work, all executed from his basement home gym. In May, Joe will transition almost entirely to shot put training on the road to qualifying for Paris through U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon in June.

    370 kg squat and 220 kg bench for reps...he can be very good strongmen powerlifter after Paris

      @dantethunderstone2118 Před 2 měsíci

      That wouldn’t be enough to be competitive at top level strongman

      @@dantethunderstone2118 current champion Mitchell Hooper squating 320 kg for reps and bench 220 ....while Thor squat 270 kg for reps on last week ! Get some knowledge before answer.....Geoff Capes come from shot put aswell ,the explosivnes will help Kovacs in moving events...his fingers strong from the ball...so grip will be no issue...only overhead need some technique for axle and oak...some deadlift...but under coach Sebastian Oreb he could develop in 2 years....

      @@krisztianmezei888 the squat could keep up but they didn’t look full depth. Also hafthor has done 460kg, 320kg x12, 340kg x7 with a torn planters fascia on squat. What he did last week was accessory work
      Bench press is almost completely irrelevant in strongman, there’s been 1 competition this century that had a chest press. His deadlift would be a huge question because thats literally half of strongman. Sebastian Oreb isn’t a strongman coach he’s a powerlifting coach, he could help with the programming but he can’t really help that much with technique. Also theres more than just axle and log that he would need to work on technique, off the top of my head there’s at least dozen events he’d need to learn if he wanted to be competitive at wsm

      @@dantethunderstone2118 Oreb is Thor's coach in years...and for many more strongman...he not only in powerlifting....and Jovacs current static strenght on level with Mitchell Hooper who is the number one strongman at the moment...so yes this squat good enough..i agree deadlift important and overhead question...but shot putters have thick and explosive shoulders....he just need a goid coach and 2 years ..and he can be in the mix...as before Mischa Koklayev

      @@krisztianmezei888 Oreb does hafthors programming, he doesn’t help with strongman event technique. Deadlift and squat technique sure, but not for things like atlas stones, yoke, log/axle cleans, throwing etc
      Thor isn’t known for having great technique on a lot of the strongman movements, he’s always been more of someone who just muscled everything and most of his technique he learned learned from a fellow Icelandic strongman who’s name I can’t remember at the moment or he learned it himself

    0:50 what muscle groups does that machine target?

    • @ohedd
      @ohedd Před 2 měsíci +1

      Basically your whole posterior chain from your erector spinae, through your glutes, and to the hamstrings. I'd say for most people it hits the lower back muscles the most.
