    That is alot cleaner and easier then the hole saw new hole in dash and new key switch from tractor supply and some "race car" inspired toggle switchs trick.

    Good Morning! I might have to replace the Ign switch on my 67 as sometimes it fails to shut off. Don't recall a hole in lock when I took it off last fall. Most likely, will replace the switch and lock/tumbler too. Take care my Brother. Blessings from Motown/Dearborn

    Installation is the reverse of removal - I often just take that line as, 'you know what to do, now do it.' But in my case, I actually had to use the paperclip to get the cylinder to seat back in where it should (even though it was lined up properly, it would not pop back in). I struggled for 30m before I figured that out... ha.

    I actually ruined the sheet metal around the hole while prying out the bezel 10 years ago...Back then I didn't know that the ignition switch was spring loaded...I just gotten the Mustang and was a total newbie and not much information out there. A few years ago I had to do the repair and close up the hole and weld in a circular patch and meticulously make a new hole and the 2 smaller/larger side notches.

      Oh wow that sound like an experience. Ya we have it pretty good now with so much access to information. Good to hear you have the skills to fix it though.

    I have a 1966 Mustang convertible but cannot locate the key to the ignition. Should I have a key made, replace the cylinder,and since I don’t have the key how do I remove the cylinder?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  Před rokem +1

      Well I think a locksmith could probably make a key for you. However if you wanted to change the cylinder, you would have to pick the lock to get it to turn. I've had to do that before. I bought a cheap lock pick set off Amazon.

    Good video but what if I don't have the key?
    I think I need a new ignition switch with a new key.

      Last time I ran into this situation I ended up buying a basic lock pick set from Amazon. I ended up picking the lock after maybe 10 minutes and removed the ignition cylinder. From there you can install a replacement that comes with a set of keys.

    How can I get a hold of you to buy a complete ignition for a 65 Ford falcon?

    Great seeing this sort of information. Is this the same for a '65? My key bezel is upside down would love to get it in correctly.

    Alf hey i was wondering which wire would you splice into to install a kill switch ??

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  Před 11 měsíci +1

      You would want to splice into the wire that activates the starter solenoid. This wire was a red with blue tracer for many years and comes off the ignition switch, goes to neutral safety switch if equipped with an auto trans, and then to the S terminal of the starter solenoid.
