    Never been a big mustang man ! But I do have a 68 coupe mustang ! My nieghbor had it put it up for sale, my down fall I walked over and looked at it ! 😂 289, auto, ps, front per disc brk ! Bought it, redone it, give it to our oldest son ! He loves the car ! 👍🏻

    Amazing! I don't usually watch half hour long videos, but I liked what you did with your Mustang! I restored my own 1968 California Special Mustang when I was younger. I'm going to be 61 next week, and I still drive mine often when weather permits. Greetings from the USA! 🇺🇸🐎

      Thanks! The color is original as per the VIN - Ford Nightmist blue (color code K) and it is absolutely gorgeous! Best decission to bring the car back to original color.

    I know that you must have been really shocked when the car came back from the sandblasting. 😢
    It's amazing how bondo and paint can hide such rust and damage...
    Congratulations for repairing the rust instead of buying replacement parts!!

      Thank you! Yeah that part was really sad, I was expecting some, but not as much..thats when it became clear that this car will get a proper full restoration :) We tried saving all original, but where it made sense we did replace some sheet metal, like the trunk floor, one quarter panel.

      Yes,there are cheap replacement panels so actually doing the metal work was very impressive!!! My favorite is the 68' fastback with the quad headlights...

    Just an Incredible job on that car!! It looks better than the day it left the factory!! Probably safer too! LOL. 27:17 That's so cool to see that he's so excited about his new Mustang that he's driving it back and forth up and down the drive way or parking lot and the car doesn't even have the front clip or headlights etc. Awesome! That's what a guy does when he's very excited and just can't wait. Christmas excited LOL. Great stuff!! Oh and congratulations on getting a V8 for it!! Best move you could have made! I'm sure you'll mod it a bit later on and make some more power nicer wheels etc. (You can always put it back to stock at any time). Edit: I see you're from the EU so I don't know if you can mod it at all. If you're in Germany I believe it's basically impossible if you want to drive it on the road to mod it at all. But maybe in the country you're in they're not quite so Fascist. Sorry if you've got to bring it to the "Touf" or how ever that's spelled.

      Thank you so much!! Yeah that moment was monumental as the car has not moved on its power for maybe 2 years, and yeah being able to drive it finally even for a couple meters was super nice. Of course I wanted to also see if everything is working correctly.
      Unfortunately we cannot really modify much, you need to keep it as original as possible. There are some possible ways you could probably register a highly modified car but you need to get approvals that it is road safe etc. Similar rules apply across the EU but Germany in particular is very strict on road safety so yeah its quite difficult to register something modified over there.

    If it was a 6 cylinder originally that means the wheels and underpinnings were 4 lug type. Some people insist those must be changed to 5 lug but yours works fine I assume. Looks incredible

      Correct! There are conversion kits or you can just buy spare parts of off a 5lug car. I was debating doing and I had some parts from 5 lug suspension to compare but to be honest it is not that different. Instead I restored this completely new, all bushings, control arms etc. and it drives and handles completely fine for a 57 year car 😂 if you would do some engine upgrades and increase the power from stock then I would agree to go with a more robust setup

      The diff will blow w v8 power, these 5 bolt diffs are hard to find, very narrow

      @@stewartfoster6581 Probably but I'm sure you know "A project car is never done" so when it does he can go for a Posi Trac with 5 lugs and Manual Trans Sweet wheels etc if he wants. It all fun and that's what I've done over the years.

      @@friguy4444 I swapped the running gear from a falcon into an early ranchero. Put in a 298 and C4. It was easy.

      My 68 California Special Mustang was a 6 cylinder car from the factory. The current 289 was in it when I bought it in the summer of 1986. It's still mated to the 3 speed manual trans after all these years. I did upgrade to a 5 lug rear axle from a Cougar when I did my restoration in the late 90's. I'm ready for the next step... a complete engine tear down & freshen up with a mild cam and small 4 barrel carb, ceramic headers and yes, an air conditioner kit. I will also install a top loader 4 speed from a donor coupe I just bought. It also has a 289 that I'll keep on a stand. I will switch the 5 lug front suspension from the donor to mine, and possibly sell the 'rolling donor chassis' later. 🇺🇸🐎

    Ok, good job on what you did, however I would hope that you would plan on swapping out that 6 cylinder integral rear end for an 8” or even better the awesome 9” rear end. Even if you don’t have plans for that small block, I think it would be better to have a more beefier 3rd member. And also upgrade to 5 lug front end.

      Agree, its just a bit difficult to come across these parts in EU unfortunately. But my next project is going to be with the 9' rear end. When its done I will post some updates on how much difference it provided.

      @@m4zvisIt’s something how someone like you in another country has limited supply of parts and stuff, but yet press on. There is a guy in my neighborhood here in the states that has a car like yours just sitting the driveway, it’s been there for several years. One day I was coming home from work and had seen his wife a briefly asked her about the car, apparently I’m not the only one you spoke to them about it, anyway she told me that her husband inherited it from his father, I’m assuming he was the original owner, she said that it’s not for sale. So on my way. I thought, what a waste, but this was before I retired, so get the time thing and everything else. Anyway it’s a nice car. Hope everything continues to well with your project.👍🏻

    Hi there, where did you sort out the parts? I just bought myself a 1966 Mustang with the 302, and as I see you are from Europe as well (by the plates), Im just wondering, did you import them from the US or did you also find some within EU? Amazing build, and I hope mine turns out as beautiful as this one 🙏🙏

      Hi, thanks! I usually would go through everything, rockauto, ebay, amazon, cjpony and then buy where the shipping, part price and quality was best. But yes mostly ended up buying parts from the US. Altough I've seen some shops now in Eu thst distribute some parts. Prices are best in the US.

Definitely checked out CJ Pony Parts, I've found a Spanish site that does sell a lot of the parts I need, my car arrives this Thursday, so I'm very excited to get started. Front of the floor pans have rusted through and need replacing, so that's going to be the first thing.

      Thanks! Yeah they are not as valuable as the fastbacks but it depends. Because the starting point for a project is also quite different. Coupe's go for relatively cheap when not in a good condition and if you do alot of the stuff yourself you can have a very nice car for a resonable price. If you want to make a bussiness out of it then yes, better to do such a restoration on a much more valuable model/variant.

    I have a 1966 mustang and it had a six cylinder in it and I upgraded it to a V-8 and I kept burning through wheelbearings in the front because they’re only four lug not five lug. You might want to consider upgrading to five lugs or are you might be burning through bearings like I used to do

      How did you solve it? Did you upgrade to 5-lug?
      I did not have this issue, I dont really think a v-8 could really impact this, the difference in weight is not that big, so how would it impact the wheelbearings. Maybe you drive a lot? And really push the car?

      For standard application, no upgrades to the engine, 4 lug is perfectly fine. 289 is not that much heavier than 200. I dont know the exact number but its something like 90 lb more? I dont think that this weight difference would matter. Now if you go with upgraded engine and plan to drive the car fast then the 5 lug is also not good because its still 1966 supension which is not good.

      @@friguy4444 The front end parts for a 4 lug set up are smaller (thiner) then a five lug set. A V8 will burn out the spindles

      ​@@scooterludlow6837hey! Yeah I was a bit worried about that, but I've looked for some info and apparently the v8 is only about 45 kg heavier than the i6. Also if you take a i6 with powersteering, ac and other equipment so probably it would even be equal to what a v8 without additional accessories weights. So I think for a completely stock v8 the drivetrain is perfectly fine. It did work very well for me. If you start modifying and adding power then yeah its a completely different story and I would also upgrade it.

      ​@@scooterludlow6837 Not always true. I've been driving my 68 Mustang with a 289 V8 small block on the original 4 lug front suspension since 1986 when I bought the car with that set up. Although I only drive it seasonally in dry weather, I've only replaced the drum brake shoes once in all those years. Even the ball joints pass New York inspection every year.

    in my opinion you destroyed it by change trhe slant6 to a v8...v8 mustangs you see all over the world but slant6 cars is so rare that they is worth to save in original stock.

      None of these mustangs are so rare, and definitely not the straight 6 mustang. Its a simple coupe, they made like 500k each year.

    Not a true restoration, you didn't put the original inline six cylinder back in the car. At best it's a good rebuild. Should have rebuilt the 200 six cylinder and used it.

    Stock 6-cylinder differential won't last. And, after all of that work, you have those tail pipes on it. Go figure.

      Thanks for watching! The differential is lasting fine. Maybe if you start upgrading the engine and increase the power it would break but then it would be logical to upgrade it as well. Sad part is that out of all that work that went into this car your only take away is two negative things. Go figure.

      Should be ok. I put a 289 in my friends 6 cyl 66 more than 40 years ago and he abused that car. The next guy who got it still has the 6 rear end to this day. With an auto trans and skinny 14 inch tires there's not enough traction to break it. Back then the 8 inch diffs were plentiful and I recommended it but he didn't want it.
