The mother's name is Latira Shonty Hunt, 44. the father is Corey Benjamin. The mother was fined $9,000 and had to do anger management classes and pay for the injured girl's medical expenses. The father apologised to the girl and her mother. This is also not the first time she attacked an opponent. She must be permanently banned.

The girl who threw the punch just happens to be a professional basketball player’s daughter. They don’t say that here. This isn’t the first time she has done this either. She shouldn’t be allowed to play anymore at all.

Well The video is actually over 3 years old is also deceptivley edited and out of context. it wasn't a random sucker punch. The girl who got punched(Laurie Ham), shoved the black girl while she was making a shot causing her to fall backwards. The girls mom saying to hit her was about. Both girls ended up getting kicked off the team. But the biased media didn't show the full unedited clip on happened two years ago and so most people thougt it was a random attack. The polcie chief also slammed KTLa and other media outlets for not showing the full video of full incident so that context was known. After the facts came out a court amd the D.A. decided that only a fine and probation was warranted. The basketball player punched also ADMITTED that she committed a hard foul prior to the punch by pushing her inthe back her to fall while she was making a shot. Both girls were lalter removed from the team.

to people that don't know, the girl who sucker punched the girl is the Daughter of an NBA player Corey Benjamin. This wasn't his daughter's first time attacking other players. She has a history of it since starting to play the game. Benjamin has known of his daughter's rage while playing and so did the basketball program but has allowed her to keep playing because of her Dad.
Actually, playing foul and cheating is common in the NBA. They are training her for what's to come whe she grew up and play in rhe big league.
This is why I never watched sports or support them. It's disgusting.

This happened two years ago. The girl was banned from basketball and the Mother was charged. She could have been charged with a maximum of one year in jail, however she was only given the following punishment:
"A mother must write a written apology and pay more than $9,000 in restitution to a teenage girl who was punched in the neck by the woman’s daughter after she yelled at her daughter from the stands to hit the girl."
$9000 and an apology doesn't sound like sufficient punishment to me.
It's as if the system is secretly encouraging vigilantism.

Criminal charges for mom and daughter, plus I'd hire a good lawyer and sue the mom's backside off. If a conviction can be done on the mom, her house insurance won't pay a civil suit judgement. They don't pay on criminal acts. Also, may I call a spade a spade? If the skin colors of the girls were reversed I'm pretty sure the DA would be considering a "hate crime." DA should consider such charges, I've noticed an alarming number, almost 100%, of these cases where black players are just unloading on their different skin colored opponents. This needs to stop before someone either suffers permanent brain damage or dies.

Both my daughters played League Basketball in Middle School, and had a lot of fun: nobody got hurt, they played s lively game with other leagues, and everyone were good sports throughout. It's called a "GAME" for a reason!

The play in question was not deliberate --- even professional BB players get tangled up now and then...and they play hard, without attacking each other!!

If y'all are wanting an update, the mom of the attacker was charged with one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one misdemeanor count of battery. She was also ordered to pay the victim's family $9k and to give a written apology to the victim, her family, and to both of the basketball teams, as well as take anger management classes before she can attend another game. And also ordered to stay away from the victim.

I agree with you completely and don’t justify the girl’s or mother’s actions a bit. But to be clear, that was more than an accidental bump from the defender. The reason the mother incited her daughter was because the defender slid her feet into the landing spot of her daughter as she was in the air. This in an intimidation move and is seen as a dirty play. She acted like it was accidental but it wasn’t. That move causes ankle injuries. That’s why the mother told her daughter not to let her get away with it. Again, there’s no excuse for the daughter and mother’s actions.

I am so tired of these incidents. First of all, a sucker-punch is an assault. They need to press charges and give this girl, a "wake up call." An arrest and paying for court and lawyer fees. Second of all, she should be banned permanently from this youth group. It is criminal and un-sportsman like conduct.
Multiple articles online say this isn't the first time she's assaulted other players. What's more disgusting is the coach said that the girl and her mother (the one who hit the other player) feel terrible (yet still no apology from either) and they're helping them enter counseling and they'll do community service. They also say that they don't condone this behavior but it's already happened multiple times. He actually tries to blame the other attacks on the other kids she's assaulted. Guess when your dad was a pro basketball player you get away with everything.
