AC Evaporator Repair. Ford F-250 Lariat. This is one of the biggest units we've serviced in some time. Take a look at what a ruptured or leaking evaporator looks like. You can see these kinds of leaks. You can only test to see if the core is releasing refrigerant. Typically, we can use a "sniffer" to detect a problem or we will witness dye coming out of the condensation tube.
This is a bit of an expense to repair, but after 6 years of service, it should be expected. Remember, AC systems work full time in today's vehicles. That's a lot to ask for considering the environment that the working parts live in.

On 08 350's you can take the dash out in one piece without taking all the parts apart. Unbolt it - pull it forward and disconnect the harnesses at the firewall side and out she comes. Why people completely disassemble dashes for this repair is beyond me - makes much more work.

No, he"s working on a newer model. You and I are lucky(!), all that AC stuff is in the engine compartment on the passengers side firewall. No tearing the dash out for any of the heater or AC work!!! There are a few (very few) Utube videos on the years you need to see. And he's a scammer, there are one or two Utube videos on removing the dash etc. on the newer ones and it's actually a breeze if you know how. One video did it in 15 minutes, another in one hour. Kinda like Mishimoto themselves making a video on doing the radiators on your era. The guy removes the radiator support crossbeam. Dieseltechron and others show how to do it without going to all that hassle. My dealers shop manual for my 2001 Chevy Venture says to remove the whole dash and dash subframe, disconnect all the electrical and steering wheel....I did the same job as in this video, removed the HVAC box (I have a video on some of the job, including replacing all the weatherstripping on all the blend doors, 32 feet of it, using hemostats at times) and replaced the evaporator and heater core etc. . I only disconnected the dash pad (the exterior of the dash). It was a bitch finding all the connectors and snag points working "blind", but I did less than half the work the dealer manual said you had to. Watch all the Utube videos you can, and you should read some more of the comments here, it is mentioned what I said about how the dash removal is actually simple on the newer ones. PS, he is also full of it about the "updated" box. It is simply a new one. Notice his giveaway comment about the blend doors and "reassembling", and then he stuttered "from the....." the old box. He had to catch himself before he openly pointed out that the mechanical moving parts were being reused. The only mechanical parts on the box, and therefore the most likely thing to malfunction! On the old one he says some inane comment about "dirt down in there"...

I make these videos to show some of the difficulties in performing the type of work we do at the shop and what other shops across the country do. If you want to do it yourself, go ahead and learn how to do it. I’m sure you’re talented enough to figure it all out on your own. Go ahead and take a chance.
