  • There is a way I found to reload the Steyr AUG that is fast and reliable. Reloads being fast is relative to mag retention, but this technique for reloading is based on experience.

    When I worked with an Australian unit, people were cracking jokes about their “little steyr’s” and “I’m so scared” until shit got real and I noticed no one with steyr’s were experiencing malfunctions and doing tap rack drills with bullets over their heads. So hats off to the Steyr, from my negative experiences abroad, though people swear by them, I cannot trust my life with an M4/AR15 and don’t go past target practice with them. The first thing I did with some of my deployment money was purchase a Steyr, between that and the x95, not too much else chambered in 5.56 I’m
    Willing to trust.

      Interesting. My M16A4 ran flawlessly in Iraq, even after hitting the ground hard or diving for cover. It ran like a Swiss watch, as they say. But I know everyone has different experiences based on the condition of their weapons, etc. I trust my AR15 completely. But it’s a good quality rifle with good quality magazines, that I regularly maintain. I trust my AUG just as much, if not more.

      @@adammathers4879 Unsure how the commenter treated his M4 rifle for it to be such a "jam fest". If he was referring to M4 carbine over the newer & more reliable M4A1 then idk. Another reason why his M4 sucked in comparison to the AUG is that they used to use stanag mags, now they use more reliable PMAGs.
      You had an M16 which tells me you probably had a STANAG mag also but yours ran smoothly, the commenter probably dont know how to treat an AR-15.

      If your rifle barely has any recoil to begin with, then yeah it may be hard to miss. But you will get a symptom regardless. If you want to look first, then do so from behind cover instead of in target view.

      @largol33t1 Před 3 lety

      Well, at least it's ambidextrous. You can reverse the ejection port so it spits shells out from either side. I wish I had bought this years ago because they've DOUBLED in price over the last year or two.

    • @andygold
      @andygold Před 3 lety

      @@largol33t1👍 you can change the ejection port as you've stated, but you then need to buy the left-hand bolt (or right-hand bolt, depending) for a few hundred dollars (unless you get the Ratworx Hybrid Bolt, which is $125, and uses AR15 parts for replacement items).

  • @largol33t1
    @largol33t1 Před 3 lety

    Can you do a Spetsnaz reload with the AUG? In other words, you use the new magazine to hit the release button so the old one falls out. When Spetsnaz troops reload an AK, they grab a new magazine, whack the mag release with it while also hitting the back of the old magazine. It flies off and they can insert the new one.

    • @doitriteak
      @doitriteak  Před 3 lety

      That doesn't work with the AUG reliably since the mags are slick and the mags don't have much oomf to loosen them up. Plus the release is stiff and actually needs to go all the way in

    • @andygold
      @andygold Před 3 lety

      @@doitriteak It is doable, at least on my AUG. I have the Corvus Defensio mag release which sticks out further and is considerably wider. You don't have to push it flush with the stock to release a mag. Also, I've slightly sanded my Magpul mags to make them drop-free (they were tight before sanding). My Steyr waffle mags and my AC-Unity mags drop free with no issue, even when totally empty.

    • @doitriteak
      @doitriteak  Před 3 lety +3

      May be cute on video but magazines aren't disposable. You have a team for cover and a pistol for when time is short. Makes little sense to dump mags like that. In my combat experience, the last thing I wanted was to have to scramble for mags I dumped

    • @61zulu77
      @61zulu77 Před 2 lety

      largol33t1. I also prefer that technique, but it cannot be done with the current design of the AUG. This is because the mag release is too short that you have to push the mag release button beneath the surface to disengage the magazine ( a safety feature to prevent ACCIDENTAL RELEASE OF THE MAGAZINE). You can circumvent this problem by using the Corvus Defencio mag release or build up the stock mag release buttom. I use the latter method by adding an extra 7 mm to the height of the stock mag release button and it works. So I use the spine of the new magazine to push on the button to drop the empty magazine and insert the new one.

  • @adammathers4879
    @adammathers4879 Před 2 lety

    I hate to bring this up, but I see a lot of issues here. I don’t know if you have any military experience or not, but either way, you are doing a lot of drills at home in relative comfort, with a full night of sleep, no injuries, no fatigue, no mud/sweat on your hands. The way your brain, nervous system and muscles work while you’re at home is completely different from how they work while you are actively being shot at by an enemy who is trying to kill you. Reloading techniques taught by the military take this into account.
    The Australian military has plenty of combat experience with their AUGs. They are a highly trained, and professional fighting force. I will try to post two videos that show how they run their rifles.
    czcams.com/video/dRUxOFVP9pI/video.html
    czcams.com/video/1nU6d6hlbSk/video.html
    Did you watch both those videos?
    The Takeaway:
    1) Expect the way you handle a reload under live combat stress to be different from how you do so at the range.
    2) Don’t try to drop out the empty mag while you have a fresh mag in your hand. Too many things that can go wrong. Do them one at a time.

    • @andygold
      @andygold Před 3 lety

      As stated above, the Nato mag version is currently right side ejection only, with no left side port molded into the stock. There are rumors of a left hand Nato version in the future, but it's only rumor right now. I don't believe Steyr sells the standard stocked waffle mag gun (non Nato) in left-hand configuration right out of the box. I believe they all come set up solely in right hand configuration. You then can purchase a left hand bolt from Steyr, or a left hand hybrid bolt from Ratworx (at half the cost, and it uses easily found, inexpensive AR15 parts), which you can slip in place after you move the ejection port cover from one side to the other.

      Never heard of that either. If you’re losing mags you got more problems than open top pouches. That iconic velcro sound of, I’m doing something other than looking down my gun, is why I don’t like closed top pouches. I still find it hard to believe even with innovations like 10 speed from BFG or Esstac retention, that there are still people stuck in the 1970s. I went to a Vietnam airsoft event, wore an authentic Chicom and BAR belt, and even tho I enjoyed the experience, missed every minute the convenience and ease of open top mag pouches.
