U.S.-bound Subaru Forester Hybrid (2025 release): What we expect

In this video, we share our expectations from the new Subaru Forester Hybrid variant, arriving in the U.S. next year. Set to debut in mid-2025, this strategic launch by Subaru aims to boost both volume and image in the stateside market.
Jeff Walters, President of Subaru America, confirmed that the Subaru Forester Hybrid variant would be available "about a year after launch" of the gas-powered SUV. The electrified version should maintain the rugged design of the gas model, characterized by a prominent radiator grille, technical-looking headlights, and muscular bumpers. It will feature unique wheel options and a distinctive Hybrid badge.
Inside, the new Subaru Forester Hybrid will offer an 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and improved materials. The SUV's spacious cabin, excellent visibility, and easy entry and exit are expected to be similar in the Hybrid model, although cargo space may be limited due to the electrical components.
Powering the Subaru Forester Hybrid will be Subaru's Boxer engine paired with Toyota's Hybrid system, potentially borrowing from the THS 5 system in the 2025 Camry. Anticipated output is over 200 hp with a fuel efficiency of 35-40 mpg.
Expected to start at just under $35,000, the Subaru Forester Hybrid will compete with the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage in the U.S. market.

The Forester Hybrid is already available overseas, but it's not a big step up from the gas model in efficiency. Hoping that the new one is competitive!

I would avoid first year of hybrid. However the non hybrid models are very efficient and I would. Up the Sport model.

Certainly! Subaru must be setting up the hybrid system to be significantly better than the gas model (29 mpg combined for the AWD). It's also interesting that the Toyota Hybrid System will be seen in 3 crossovers in 2025: RAV4, CX-50, and the Forester - and they're almost competitors!
