Toyota owns 20% of Subaru and Subaru is part of the Toyota Motor Group. Which mean Subaru is part of Toyota's keiretsu. Therefore, it is in the best interest of Toyota for Subaru to use their parts and supply chain partners.
Exactly, I'm sure Toyota doesn't mind dipping into Subarus strengths like standard AWD and lower entry level cost, they both will make money in the long-run
Toyota playing it smart by getting their fingers in everyone's cake
You'll almost always win if you're on every team lol
Hybrids can't some soon enough for Subaru.
Literally all I care about from subaru is news of a WRX wagon
I hope Subaru does not get rid of sedans completely
It's too late for that. The legacy and Impreza would've made good hybrids
@@economiccrisis9267 They can still do EV sedans which is better than having no sedans at all
It sucks that the Legacy nameplate goes out like this. It was the car that started STI and did relatively well until Subaru decided to make it the appendage of the Outback. You kind wonder why Subaru didn't seperate the two models and make the Outback its own thing. The Legacy was a sporty Japanese sized sedan/wagon that morphed into a lowered American crossover that Subaru of America lost interest in.
I hope we get the Levorg which has replaced the Legacy in the rest of the world but without the CVT.
The smaller cars sell better in other countries, thatâs why in North America we donât get the sedans any longer. Itâs always interesting when you travel overseas and everyone still drives smaller cars versus the giants in North America.
â ââ @@dhanipersaud6227the Levorg is the wagon of the WRX, not the Outback. Itâs a bit smaller than the Outback as the WRX is smaller than the Legacy.
I want a Japanese built Forester, with a hybrid powertrain and symmetrical AWD.
And because itâs using Toyotaâs hybrid tech, it would be a good alternative to the RAV4 hybrid. Especially because of Toyota markups.
I wanted a Forester from Japan because the previous Subaru was built in Indiana. Disappointed as it was just as crappy. Subaru lost my business. Not waiting for a third strike.
Hard to believe Mazda and Subaru still donât have hybrids available and are still a ways out.
Subarus are actually top mpg awd vehicles if you exclude hybrids. Mazda, nissan, honda and even toyota awd vehicles all get less mpg. So once they do become hybrids, i expect them to have similar mpg to the rav 4, highlander and corolla cross. Shoot when subaru loaned me a crosstrek for a week with the 2.5L i got a combined 33mpg. My outback 2.5 fully loaded with 4 adults all their stuff for a week camping trip, 1 single seat kayay and a tandem kayak on the roof with a cargo carrier on the back i still got 28mpg. What non hybrid awd mid size crossover can do that.
@ Ryan-cf6lc
Its hard for me to believe thst nobody realizes my 2015 Crosstrek Hybrid even exists đ
The electric and hybrid tech Subaru is getting is going to be from Toyota.
The Forester hybrid is going to be a good alternative to the RAV4 hybrid imo, especially because of the markups with the latter.
Hybrid Outback will be a game changer
Long way off on that one
i suspect it will be a larger car if Subaru follows the forester trend. don't know the fuel savings but if they get 40 mpg like rav4 it may be competitive
@@z1az285 maybe it'll be something like Outback or Forester Prime ??? Using the RAV4 Primes hybrid tech
@@truckercowboyed2638 I hope so. However i suspect Subaru is leaning towards bigger cars. So i am keeping my fingers crossed that the ride won't be wobbly and it retains the character of the outback, plus gives decent mpg. but i don't think they will be plug ins. that will lead to higher tire wear for bigger and heavier cars. but at a minimum if it has Toyota's E-CVT and hybrid system, it will definitely mean a lot especially the ability to drive in EV mode for short distances/ stop and go traffic. BUT a heavier battery will also make the car stable. so pros and cons
@@truckercowboyed2638 ...And i loved driving the solterra as a loaner car. the instant torque is addictive (though quick starts + battery weight = more tire wear). but the car was incredibly smooth and the stability was top notch. like driving a small sedan. very quick and responsive
SUBARU is a conservative and unique vehicle brand with a positive reputation globally. Corrabration support with TOYOTA would improve overall quality, design, and production and catch up in critical advanced tech with TOYOTA. The car market is entering a new era worldwide, which is an excellent decision for SUBARU. Join with leader, TOYOTA.
Kirk broâŠthis is great news I luv the collaboration..this is how business partners stick with each other this is y I donât give up on my Toyota & Lexus vehicles..I luv the joint venture
Smart for Subaru. Get the best hybrid system for much less.
As a former Subaru salesman, going full ev will not stick. The Subaru buyer does not really have any interest in EVs whatsoever. Hybrid and battery electric will definitely hit.
Yeah, hybridation to bring comfort, driveability and better mpg and such yes, but electric for the sake of being electric, for sure, NO.
Aren't most Subaru owners environmentally conscious? They're all about trees, outdoors, parks and recycling. How could you not know that ?
@@andyleo8418 very true but they are also a lot more old school, traditional and emphasize practically. Range anxiety would definitely factor in with the old folk
You are the best auto CZcamsr , thanks
Hey Kirk, at 11:50 you show that underground parking that has the Land Cruiser FJ mini in the background. Where is that? I assume not in the states. Im really hoping the FJ comes to the US!
Just give us a hybrid Impreza, and don't forget rear vents, passenger electric seat, cooled seats, rear driver seat pocket, softer rear doors, rear USB, and time to slap on a flat-bottom steering wheel (and make it standard heated). At least TRY to offer power lift-gate, The Buick Envista does it!
A Subaru with mechanical 4 wheel drive and still hybrid gas mileage would be a killer.
The current high demand for hybrids is giving Toyota and Subaru a valuable window and lots of cash to develop next gen EVs which their customers may actually want. Will be intersting to see what next gen hybrid tech will actually deliver.
Would be amazing if they created a hybrid STI. Unfortunately I know that's not in the cards atm đ„
When I was looking for a new car I chose the Toyota Corolla Cross because it came in hybrid. The Mazda CX-30 and Subaru Crosstrek were also contenders but are not available in hybrid. I do not have a long commute but the hybrid motor is worth it for anyone who drives SoCal freeways, where there can be traffic 7 days a week.
would love to see the impreza get a hybrid
Same. Subaru should be ashamed that they havenât done that yet
They need to make the Impreza RS a hybrid, boost the torque numberd with EV power and compete it with the civic and corolla hybrids.
Solid-state batteries pleaseâŠ.
2027 at the earliest âŠwhich means not likely widely available until 2029-2030. See the unavailable of the RAV4 prime as an example of slow roll out. Toyota needs to have their new USA battery plant making solid states for this to not be anemic for 3 years after release
yeaaa u right subaru needs more hybrids
if it can double the mpg too that would be dope
and reduce stress on the cvtt
Yes since the Solterra selling so well let's add 3 more EV crossovers. :) Hybrid for Crosstrek and Forester are much anticipated. Outlook hopefully not taking too long.
If Nissan is smart, they should join Toyota and allow Toyota to do their CVT transmission and help them with Hybrid. It will be sad to see Datsun/Nissan die.
Why would Nissan need Toyotaâs help with hybrids when they have their own technology thatâs already good?
Nissan has been fighting an parasitic infection for decades.
Why force a CVT if conventional automatic is better?
Nissan is one of the big three of Japan thatâs too proud to join Toyota. Antitrust laws probably wonât allow it either. Anyway, theyâre fine as they are and just the victim of their own stupid mistakes.
@BrianEugeneLee193Shut up! Iâm not talking to you, or about Mitsubishi!
I've been a Toyota person since my first car. I currently drive an Outback. I was really hoping for a hybrid Outback, but couldn't wait any longer. I really like it, and hope to keep it for 20 years... But a hybrid might convince me to trade up.
How about the crown signia?
@@bigprocrastinator love it, too expensive.
I would buy a hybrid Crosstrek. Preferably non-plug in. Hopefully the power is sufficient.
Really hope Subaru revisits the PHEV for at least the Forester/Outback. The last gen Crosstrek PHEV was kind of DOA with its lackluster range and barely-there improvement in hybrid fuel economy. You could tell it was kind of a sacrificial vehicle for California regulations. If they can get some of that sweet sweet RAV4 Prime technology married to their symmetrical AWD system, that would be incredible!
Subaru really failed on an attempt to make a hybrid. It was 100% waste of their time and production cost to role that model out. It got worse MPG than a normal car. đ
Maybe on outback
TOYOTA owning 20% of Subaru does make sense for Toyota to do these collaborations. It's their interest to get Subaru into EVs and be able to stay in the market. Next will be Mazda where they own about 5%.
Something tells me Subarus gonna offer a full electric version of the cross track and Forrester for their new EVâs, and itâll add a whole new meaning to the âsymmetricalâ part of Subaru
I Love my Solterra! I wanted it & I got one, so you can't say no one wants them. đ They make it way too appealing with the deals/rates & Toyota build quality.
yes, good large 3-row PHEV with big battery, plz, like BYD U8 -- we will be interested in such a Subaru. Maybe battery >= 40 kWh?
as long as they keep the awesome Subi AWD i'm all for it
I have my doubts that a hybrid system paired with Subaru's semitrical AWD will be efficient enough to be worth it, especially if the price difference is large like it was with the Crosstrek hybrid vs ICE.
Hi Kirk do you think the new RAV 4 will be announced this year?
Yes
Within the next few years Toyota and Subaru will only badges to tell them apart. Since a parent company owns both they already started to combine them.
No ev charger within my no charge apartment .... bummer !
That next-gen Crosstrek Hybrid will just be Hybrid or do you think that they might release another PHEV with more range? I mean the previous one was based on the Prius Prime and the new Prius powertrain is much nicer and could offer 30-40 miles of range.
Normal hybrid
@@KirkKreifels I thought that this might be the case, considering that Japan already has a normal hybrid version of the 2024 Crosstrek. I am still going to hold out hope that they may release another PHEV as they are quite popular these days.
Iâm looking to the 2025s for my next vehicle. I immediately dropped the Forester from my options because itâs just ICE. With the new restrictions, the Forester ICE is just too darn sluggish compared to Honda and Toyotaâs hybrids.
Subaru is wise for teaming up with Toyota. Now I will definitely consider buying one in a couple of years when they come out.
Where I live in Montreal I see bZ4Xs everywhere.
Weird. I haven't seen one in Seattle since I bought mine a few weeks ago. People say they are everywhere in california
@@EDUAROSOLAShardly see them in Orange County. Way more Teslas and even RiviansâŠ
Honestly wished they went the Hybrid route instead. Letâs hope this EV collaboration leads in that direction.
It looks like if Toyota designed the Mach E.
I haven't found much info on the 2025 Outback, but early on, I was hearing there may be a hybrid 2025 with the new version of the Outback. I am hoping that will be true.
Would be awesome to put Rav4 prime drivetrain in a forester
Or in anything... That powertrain is close to endgame!
Toyota already gave mazda the 2.4 hybrid. Rumor has it they will be do the same like you confirmed
Crosstrek hybrid would be great. They sell a mild hybrid Crosstrek in Central America, but it's really not that fuel efficient.
They sold a hybrid back in mid 2010s I believe
They used to have a hybrid Crosstrek in America back in the 2010s.
unfortunately while the Crosstrek hybrid (2019-21) used a eCVT transmission based on the Prius, the hybrid system was similar to but not the same. it worked well as long as the battery had charged but because the range was so low that the savings were minimal at best. Plus it was a heavier cat because of the battery. AWD was on all the time, not on demand so tire wear was higher than a regular crosstrek and it mileage was meh. plus the eCVT fluid had to be changed every 30000 miles like a regular CVT and unlike Toyota eCVT. i was considering a certified used but these aspects turned me off completely
10:09 When GM/Honda/Acura does it, they're shamed into oblivion..đ€·đŒ
Does anyone know whatâs happening with Mazda using Toyotaâs hybrid tech?
If Subaru will be adopting Toyota's hybrid system, perhaps in the future Subaru's US hybrid production may also be supplied by Toyota's battery factory in North Carolina that's currently under construction. Reportedly, Toyota will start small production of batteries for hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs from around 2025 for the North American market. The final completion of all battery production lines in North Carolina is scheduled for 2030.
Hybrid Forester is interesting to me. Rebadged Toyotas not so much.
Kirk, I hope folks can resist the temptation to put down a non-refundable deposit on a hybrid Outback until your Crown Signia review is posted on June 6. đ
Crown signia is a lot more expensive.
@@KirkKreifels My comments on Crown Signia pricing are under embargo until June 6 ;-)
â@@rightlanehog3151It's a Crown, it will obviously be more
11:33 lolol poor bZ
Nice but I donât think EVs are selling?
Are they just "Teaming up though "? At this point Subaru is a part of Toyota motor company
20% is the key in Japanese accounting. They're related but not a subsidiary. They cooperate but they are also independent of each other.
KurtâŠwhen will Tacoma EV come out?
still waiting for a sti...
Did you guys hear that Pontiac might be coming back?
Subaru already has hybrid e-boxer engines in EU. Just bring those to the US!!
Bruh...the concept car showed at the end is already on sale in europe, it's the new C-HR.
No its not. The C-HR is NOT the bz Compact SUV
Kirk, this is confusing. EV? Is that plug in? Battery only? ICE/battery? Iâm out on a plug in. đ
EV unless specified, always means battery EV. No engine, plug only.
@@KirkKreifelsthanks. Not sure how EVâs will sell here due to lack of infrastructure.
So no information on the battery technology? Iâm waiting for the promised solid state batteries that are gonna have a 600 to 700 mile range
Will not come soon, certainly not begore 2026, and solid state will ne used only in more expensive models from Lexus amd Toyota, first as plugin hybrid only.... . The battery is ready but the production is extremly difficult, mass production. Toyota is developing and testing both batteries and production methods right now, they started 2 uears ago and said, plugin will be the first use for solid state, in 2026. I think for the Lexus supersportscar....
Subaru, how about a new WRX/STI based on the upcoming Toyota Starlet instead. You need a new halo model.
I would like to see a WRX in the NitroCross series in the E and ICE class to help gain interest for buyers. Right now that series is using some custom built vehicles.
Subaru is NEVER gonna look like that mock-up pic đ€Ł
Nice
Hopefully these EV'S will have much better range than the Solterra......đąđąđąđąđą
bye bye symmetrical AWD
Quad motor!
Symmetrical drive hybrid....đđ€Ł
They way you pronounce Gunma (gun + ma) đ. It is goo + n + ma
I'm a goon.
I think this is technically assistance from Toyota. Subaru still needs to keep their identity.
Bring back the Baja, give it a different name so it isn't plagued by the legacy of the Baja, and hybrid would be phenomenal. Name needs to change though. Love it but carries too much baggage within the company's memory.
Give us 400ft pounds of torque in the STI with a Hybrid. Toyota can do it for their Tacoma, Absolute zero reason Subaru could not achieve the same result, However, that will be a challenge for their CVT huh. *Sighs*
"Breaking" "Subaru" đ
....
"EV" đźâđšđźâđšđźâđšđźâđšđźâđš
Everyone needs to stop, transitional technologies are the only way forward starting now. There is nothing in place to either recycle or dispose of that much lithium. GM was on to something a few years ago with an electric vehicle with a small gas powered generator that was not part of the powertrain. Its purpose was to recharge the battery system, thus allowing for unlimited range. A small fuel tank is needed paired to a highly efficient generator. This could almost be retrofitted to current EV vehicles.
I don't like car companies that collaborate or have ownership in the other. You end up with homogeneous cars as one company overtakes the other or holds it back so they dont compete directly. If they have the same engine then what's the point? Look at the BRZ and GR86. Imagine if Subrau built their own sports car. It would be a lot better than that BRZ which was forced on them by Toyota.
Mark my words, Toyota will buy Subaru eventually.
Iâm sorry but your complete report today is so scrambled with âfactsâ and âguessesâ with hard to make heads or tails of what the hell is going on.
So, what could the 3 new CUV/SUV EVs be, Subaru already has the Solterra (aka Toyota bZ4X or RAV4 compact size EV already exists) and we know a 3-row EV CUV is coming (so, an Ascent equivalent), which leaves a subcompact and midsize CUV/SUV, assume a Forester (or Crosstrek) and Outback EV model equivalents, but, why is Toyota/Subaru planning some many EV models, if there's no demand, blame the Japanese on brainwashing the American buyer against EVs because they miss the EV movement and, thus, hurting their own sales in the process, it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming years
Europe is in transition to EV'S......
EV r a waste of money Subie - how bout a hybrid Sti and Outback Sti - if the Sti is 400hp how bout a 300 n change Outback - my 2 cents
Toyota watched the STupid American Companies raise their prices to ridiculous amounts especially for Pick up Trucks now all those people have negative equity paying off 70000+ LOans for a CAR! hahaha
