    Check out burton's attic, he just rebuilt one of these. He explains what's up with that issue your having with the lever. Easy fix

      I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how simple it is. He goes into pretty good detail. Basically the pin is froze up inside the lever. I'm looking at buying one of these now. That's why I've been searching the web on advice

      @@Hambone556 since i made this video i was able to sort the lever issue out ! I ended up keeping this green lathe and purchased yet a third one. the bed was not the hardened version and was fairly worn so I stripped that lathe to get all the parts i needed to repair this one. and was lucky enough to save the other high wear parts in case i ever need them. I HIGHLY recommend the Rockwell / Delta 11 lathe it is quite a robust lathe. You will NOT regret owning one.

    Pretty cool. Interesting head stock set-up on those. I like the selector mechanism too. I wonder how that mechanism works internally and what might be out of sorts on your other one. Your shop is nice, Joe.

      Thanks John, I plan on doing a video on pulling the head stock apart to troubleshoot it.. there is another shaft under the spindle that has a jack shaft and eccentric gears to engage the back gears when the lever is rotated. you cant see it unless you remove the head stock, and that's where the problem is

    • @johnstrange6799
      @johnstrange6799 Před 7 lety

      Is it something like an internal version of the eccentric lever for the back gear on your SB's? Hey, if that's an import quick change post (on the new Rockwell) that you're not into, then I'd do some horse trading with you for it.

      John, you are correct. it is very similar to the sb eccentric . the qc is a Shars AXA they are on ebay for 44 bucks new.. probably wouldnt be worth shipping to you .... on that note id go for the wedge type vs the button style... figure ill put this on the shelf till i part with this lathe. buyers like to purchase with some tooling... if you are looking to outfit your 13" i have the BXA series on that.. AXA is too small

      Ahh yes, I forgot that it's an 11" lathe, so AXA. lol I'm just always on the look-out.

    Have you made any progress on this machine? I'm restoring an 11x24 currently. Looking for the intermediate gear, one carriage lock, taper magnifier, and the cross feed handles.

      loving my machine.. it works great! may have the gear.. but would need pic / dimensions... possibly have the lock as well.. good luck with the taper magnifer... i have 2 taper attachments one magnifier is gone and the other is not in great shape.. im sure anyone with a taper wont part with that... as far as cross feed handles... just the actual handle ? you can probably turn one yourself

    Hey Joe ...what part of the country are you located? ....just curious....I just finished a resto on a Delta 14, and thinking an 11 might suit me better. Moving from a 9SB to a 14 is a big jump, I likely just need to give it some time. Seeing the "Delta" on you lathe, makes me suspect you have the older, early version of VS pulley set up. The early version had sleeve bearings which required regular oiling, and sling lots of oil around in the compartment. I converted my early 14 to ball bearings, and also did an 11 for another member of the group. My headstock was pristine, so no experience how Rockwell did their bearings. You might look up Wes Johnson videos here ....he did a rebuild of an Asian lathe, and gave some good info as far as adjusting the front spindle bearings.....not sure if they are even close in design, but me be worth your time to watch the methods of a pro. G-luck

      thanks Jim ! i am from new jersey. i was able to get the first 11 lathe from a model shop.. and it looked like it was very well cared for . so i am hoping to repair it ... i also have a SB 13 which im hoping to use for the larger jobs and possibly use this lathe for the smaller second operation jobs...
      ill definitely check out wes johnson and look into converting to ball bearings. do you have any videos or info on what bearings you used ? did you have to machine anything to do the conversion ?

    Did you ever follow up on the company that you said will redo the gear on the spindle? And if so, can you share their info? I have one of these I'm fixing up now and may need that eventually

    Ended up getting that lathe. 11x48 from head stock to end of ways. So not sure what that really measures out to. My question to the kind folks on here is, does anyone have a good source for belts? The two that come up around the gears are in need of replacing.
