I agree with you as I have been using all of these Lucas products. But, I feel all these products have their own Forte in the gun world. The red oil is great in revolvers and pump action guns plus metal surface lube. Great video as usual!

Great tip Lewis. Yes I have used permatex and your right. Hard to get off. Been using tradition's breech plug grease . Works ok. But you have to neat the hell out of the tub because it likes to separate out to a clear liquid . I will give the lucus a try.

i use this for the breech plug on my smokeless patriot muzzleloader .
it's tons easier to clean and not as messy as the cva or knight stuff i tried .
thanks for the suggestion and take care , jeff

For breech plugs and nipples, I use the copper anti-seize that you can find in auto parts stores. Started using that on an 1861 Springfield ,58 cal, in 1961. Hundred-year-old rifle, functioned great. Still use it today on the flint or percussion firearms I make. Never had a frozen plug or nipple yet.

I used aeroshell anti seize. Had it on hand for ar builds. Its for the barrel nut, and on flash hiders. Holds up to alot of heat.

I’ve been using permatex ant-seize lubricant, it’s grey in color, I re-lube the threads every time I clean my rifle, I think it may be some kind of graphite lube, it feels gritty but wipes right off .. Lucas makes good stuff though ..

I'll have to hit our Lucas rep up for a tube of that stuff next time I see him. They supply our oil for the vacuum pumps I think, I'm not 100% sure of that, I just know that a couple of times a year we have donuts on our table with some little clear bottles of the red gun oil, and a handful of business cards. I've been using the teflon tape on my breech plugs for the last year or so and that works well, but on my modified plugs that use the Treso nipples, I've been using the CVA Slick, or just plain old anti-sieze, on the nipple but it is a mess to clean up. Thanks Lewis, that's a good find!

Perhaps if you actually just coughed up the money and bought some of this great stuff-- instead of trying to mooch it, you'd feel better about yourself.

I use automotive brake grease. High temp and waterproof and allows you to take your rusty brake pads out.

I’ve had good luck using a wrap of thread tape on vent liners and nipples. I might try this too.

how does the new englander shoot compared to the renegade. I see them on the web a lot ,some look like new old stock and was thinking about getting one .
I bought a renegade used, the bore was rusty and pitted a little, when I would run a patch down it, it would come out pretty ragged . I ran about 500 patches down it at the least, the best thing I found was some mag and chrome polish. I guess it is the same grit as tooth paste, now I can run a patch down it and it comes out with no holes in it. and the rifling still looks great.

So I am going to ask you a question that maybe a little out of your wheelhouse, or maybe way in your wheelhouse. Knowing from what I have viewed of your videos your a mostly Thompson center man who has several barrels, from different makers to drop into them. So I own a CVA Big bore mountain that I put together from a kit back in 1982-83 in .54 caliber. So originally this rifle available in .54 and. 58 caliber. 1" across the flats. So this leads me to vision of adding more dimensions to this rifle by going to extra barrels of. 62 caliber. 1 rifled and the second smooth bore.
Do you know a barrel maker who is able, willing, and ready to make drop in barrels that i can just install my desired sights and finish myself with browning?

I received a .50 caliber T/C Hawken from my grandfather a long time ago. I've only shot it once, I used a 370 grain Maxi-Ball over 80 grains of Pyrodex. The accuracy was pretty bad. Do you have any recommendations for the most accurate load for the .50 cal Hawken?
