@@SKBottom To Snape, Neville was a living reminder and representation of his guilt from revealing the prophecy to Voldemort and the potential alternative for what could've happened, and as a result, from Snape's point of view, Neville embodied all of this and that made him detest and bully him.
The reason why Snape hated Harry is because Harry is a Potter. Even if Harry didn't look like his father or was sorted into Slytherin, his relationship with Snape WON'T CHANGE. Snape hated the Potter family/bloodline (anyone related to James) with a burning passion. If Snape was still alive he would still have been an a**hole to Harry and he would've treated Harry's children (especially James) like crap.
Snape bullies all non-Slytherin students (especially Gryffindors) but Neville and Harry are his "special targets".

I think the narrator meant afterward as Harry went into hiding it was commonly known he had a Snowy Owl which is native to areas farther North close to Arctic Tundra. I have a darker theory for Avada Kedavra, as you said its unusually similar to “Abra Kadabra”, so much so that in universe the latter is obviously derived from the former. My theory is that some ancient dark wizards went around killing muggles, each other or animals just for fun and so that particular spell entered into muggle consciousness and over the many centuries the term became corrupted into the abra kedabra we have now, and became just the generic term for all magic.

Monkshood means “chivalry” and wolfsbane means “misanthropy (dislike of humankind)”. So when Severus says “What is the difference between monkshood and wolfsbane” he is really saying “What is the difference between Lily’s/Harry’s (depends on how you wanna look at it) chivalry and my misanthropy?” It’s really interesting.

My theory about Hedwig's death was that Hedwig died a hero by intercepting a "Killing Spell" meant for Harry or Hagrid. She wasn't the target. By spotting her, the Death Eater in question knew that this was the REAL Harry and tried to kill him. Hedwig's great vision, as all owls have, allowed her to see his actions and fly between Harry and th Death Eater, thus sacrificing herself to save Harry or Hagrid. I do like your theory that Snape killed her and for that specific reason, but, let's face it, both are only theories. Only J. K. Rowling can answer this question.

Hedwig dying for protecting Harry only happened in the movie, not the book. The book says that the only reason the death eaters knew which one was the real Harry was because Harry was known for always using expelliarmus even when facing imminent danger. Harry got mad when Lupin advised him that the time for disarming had passed especially since death eaters knew that expelliarmus was becoming Harry's signature spell.
Anyway, Hedwid was in a cage on the side car, spells were flying all over the place & one of them hit & killer her :(

I have an odd interpretation of Snape's words.
He mentions wormwood and wolfsbane both poisonous plants but also literally linked to two of the marauders directly.
With reference to the Wormwood the answer is living death and a dead Wormtail is revealed to be alive.
With Wolfsbane he asks for a difference when their the same thing. Either meaning he views the marauders interchangeably or it's a reference to both Remus and Sirius being Shapeshifters.
He also references the Bezoar an old "antidote" for poison.
Kinda feel either the author was foreshadowing or Snape can 'Ken'
(Ken is Scottish for know but is also used sometimes to refer to a form of precognitive ability where a person may say something without thinking but is a truth they shouldn't know. An example is answering a question like the place something is but not having even heard of the object before. Luna seems to be a good example of kenning)

The one about Crookshanks having had been the Potter's cat is such a reach someone sprained their back coming up with it. Crookshanks was half-Kneazle. Highly intellegent, and able to sense the trustworthiness of a person. By highly intellegent I mean Crookshanks wasn't just a smart animal, he understood full sentences and conversations (that Scabbers was in Ron's pocket) and could form complex plans such as stealing Neville's list of passwords for Sirius.
He worked with Sirius Black because Sirius was a good person, and remember he also attacked Peter Pettigrew shortly after the Trio entered the Magical Managerie. Some imagined familiarity of Sirius wasn't required for Crookshanks to work with him. Sirius just had to talk to him.

Theory: when Dumbledore attempts to use the resurrection stone he became infected by the horcrux, even after breaking the ring the horcrux survived contained in Dumbledores hand. This is why Dumbledore was so resigned to die he knew he was in the same position as Harry and nagini acting as a living horcrux, only by him dying would the dark lord be able to be slain.

    • @LAZERAK47V2
      @LAZERAK47V2 Před 2 lety +1

The 7th book debunks this. During one of Snape's memories, Snape chides Dumbledore for putting the ring on, specifically stating that he can't stop the curse, only delay it.
He had to kill Dumbledore because Dumbledore knew that Voldemort had tasked Draco with killing him, and Snape taking on the task if Draco failed would ensure that Snape remained in Voldemort's good graces, since Dumbledore was already dying to the curse (which Voldemort did NOT know). This also allowed him to clear himself from Bellatrix's suspicions, as evidenced at the start of The Half Blood Prince, with him making the Unbreakable Vow in her presence.
Meanwhile, the lore on Horcruxes states that they are totally dependent on their containers. Even the Journal was destroyed despite its ability to possess Ginny Weasley. Dumbledore only briefly put the ring on, so there's no way it could've transferred itself to him in such a short time when it couldn't do the same to Ginny.

@@plotholedetective4166 By that logic, a Horcrux could be nigh impossible to destroy since the soul fragment could just start hopping from one physical object to another. Why didn't the Cup in the Gringotts vault just start playing Musical Galleons and make itself impossible to find?
In every fantasy setting, magic has rules and just because a Horcrux is a curse, doesn't mean it can do whatever it wants. It has rules it has to follow. It is totally bound to its container. The curse that afflicted Dumbledore's hand was a separate curse, one that was designed to protect the Horcrux, not a result of the Horcrux itself.
The reason Harry became a Horcrux was because a fragment from Voldemort's original soul attached itself to him. This cannot be the case with the ring, as it was already a Horcrux, as such, already had a container.

He gave up his own life figuratively and literally, and everything to keep his promise to Dumbledore even after Lily dies. He promised to protect Harry and be a double agent He's far from selfish. His last act, his sacrifice was the culmination of 7 years. He's a wonderful Byronic character and his redemptive arc is beautiful. JK said he and Harry were both good but flawed. She also said the one who seemed to not care was the one who loved the most. Snape is an iconic figure already. He is the most favorite and loved of all the HP characters. I'm betting if it didn't involve Lily, he would still leave Voldemort. It's not like you can say I quit. I think Dumbledore would recruit him as a double agent cuz he hr was brilliant and already had access to everything Voldemort did. Who knows, if he was working for Dumbledore, who's to say Lily and Snape wouldn't become friends again . He was in the Order too, so James and Lily would know if they didn't get killed. I read the books too, recently,. He was a spy for Voldemort, he wasn't his henchmen. There is no indication that he murdered people when he was a DE. Even Dumbledore asks him, how many deaths have you witnessed? He says lately, only those I couldn't save. His soul was pure enough to cast a perfect patronus. Actually, I just thought of this . He cast one to send to Harry in forest with the sword of Gryffindor. Dumbledore was dead already. He spoke to Snape through his portrait. So even after having to kill Dumbledore, he still had a lovely patronus. Snape is a beautiful character. That's why he is loved so much

I'd argue that Trelawney isn't so much prejudiced as angry with Firenze for essentially taking half of her job.
Dumbledore hires Firenze out of necessity, since Umbridge (rightfully) sacked Trelawney. Dumbledore's interest in keeping her in the school isn't due to her skill as a teacher, but the fact that she was the one who made the Prophecy about Voldemort and Harry and was a potential security risk.
Now, because Firenze accepted the position, he was banished from his herd, who would kill him if he returned. Therefore, Dumbledore had to keep him safe in Hogwarts (since he's the reason Firenze got banished in the first place, would look pretty bad if he just sent him back). So, now he and Trelawney share the job.
It's also a well-known fact that Centaurs are quite prideful, even Firenze was (to a lesser extent). This manifested in Bane's outright hatred for the "lesser" species (humans) and his insults towards Firenze in the first book (calling him a "Common Mule" for letting Harry ride on his back). It also manifested in Firenze (again, to a lesser degree) in that the Order of the Phoenix states that Firenze doesn't actually expect them to have any ability towards Divination. He does admit that even Centaurs are wrong sometimes (as evidenced with his warning towards Hagrid and how his "Attempt" is not working, the attempt being the civilizing of Grawp, which Hagrid DID succeed at), but he's still quite condescending towards humans. Again, not in an outright hostile way like Bane, but in an "I know better than you" way. Again, I want to state that this is NOT a fault in Firenze, but a trait that WILL have implications with Trelawney.
Which finally leads me to the fact that Trelawney mentions to Harry that she tried to basically "swap notes" with Firenze, sharing knowledge with each other. Firenze (probably rightfully) dismisses Trelawney's methods as ineffective and shows no interest in working together more than necessary. Remember that Trelawney completely believes that she is a capable seer and that she has the Sight (which she doesn't). In her mind, the fact that Dumbledore would hire her and keep her at Hogwarts further reinforces this egotistic point of view (even though she's wrong about his reasons) Obviously, Trelawney's over-inflated ego at being snubbed would cause some animosity on her end and she would harbor some resentment towards Firenze. Her use of "Nag" is likely just her insulting Firenze personally, and not meant as a blanket statement towards all Centaurs.

Rodolphus Lestrange was a Slytherin student in the early 1970s (GF27) and a Death Eater thereafter. He was the brother of Rabastan, husband of Bellatrix (GF27, GF30, OP6). Rodolphus and his brother Rabastan were captured by the Ministry of Magic after their attack on the Longbottoms (November or December 1981) and given a life sentence in Azkaban (GF27, GF33); however, they escaped when the Dementors turned against the Ministry in January 1996 (OP25) .
Rodolphus was apparently returned to Azkaban at some point. Then, at a later date, he either escaped a second time or was released (CC4.11).

I haven't gone through each one but all of her predictions or insights were probably true. Magonical didn't bother hiding her distain for Sybil. Was she prejudiced against her because she thought her a fraud? Maybe Sybil was prejudiced and maybe she preferred pure bloods or considered that important. But the HP universe would be so much better if there was more grey characters. Not all death eaters we're all bad all the time. And the "good guys" we're all good all the time. Sybil picked a side to fight on, maybe she was loyal to Dumbledore or maybe she liked her life in the castle, but she chose to fight against Voldemort. Prejudice towards muggles, uncomprehended beasts, house-elves, different houses, et cetera. We can see these flaws in good wizards and witches throughout the books and films.
