  • Want your dog to back a pointing dog (aka honor a pointing dog), then watch as two dogs are introduced to backing a pointing dog (aka honoring point or honoring a pointing dog) and a third dog just 4 months old is taught to back a pointing dog (honor a pointing dog) with no pressure applied whatsoever.

      Thanks Steve. I suspect you might already know this based on your comment, but I'll have several hours of editing for a 10 minute video.

    I have a 3½ month old GSP and trying to train him myself. Great videos. We are both learning since this is my first bird dog.

    Great video. Have you ever had a dog run up on the silhouette and realize that it's not real? If so, how do they react?

      @Payton1221  Před 9 měsíci +1

      There should ALWAYS be a live bird associated with the sight of the silhouette, and when they go to chase the bird (I'm assuming you don't have them on a checkcord) then you're to lower the silhouette since there's not another bird there. And if you are using a checkcord like I did here, you lead the dog away from the silhouette. So there shouldn't be an opportunity to run up on the silhouette.

    I have a 1 year old GSP.
    hunted her last season.
    It started very slowly and gradually picked up pace.
    This year I'm working on force breaking , better steady on the wing, whoo, and honor the point.
    I will be looking for your helpful videos .
    Stay safe and enjoy the dogs.

    How long do you keep the e collar on the older dog? Thanks

    • @Payton1221
      @Payton1221  Před 9 měsíci +1

      There’s no rush to remove it as it helps the dog comply at times. But a good rule of thumb is to keep it on six weeks longer than you think you should 😉

    Do you recommend this no pressure drill for a young age pup

    • @Payton1221
      @Payton1221  Před rokem +1

      You certainly CAN, but are you also using launchers and pigeons to bring out the dog's natural tendency to point ? But if your dog is pointing well and you just want to introduce another no pressure skill for you dog to learn, absolutely.
