I wish my whole family would agree to do training like this. It doesn't work when only I do it 😔 Victoria has the power of persuading humans
Yes unfortunately no training works if there isnt consistency and repetition! Usually it is the humans hardest to train 🤣
I sooooo agree with you! I'm getting an ulcer being the only one that's consistent with the training and the rest of my family seems to do exactly the opposite. 😤🙄
Yes! And then they complain because the dog is unruly. It's their own fault!
@@luisap.343 As a trainer myself, I actually get hired quite often from one family member that basically just needs me to come in and be that "bad guy" because they say "they will listen if it comes from you and not just me!" In those cases, very little work is actually done with the dog and most is lecturing and giving "the talk" and guidelines, that way the other family members feel confident they have merit to hold them accountable 😂
Keeping your stress low, confidence and support surrounding you high is sometimes more the reasoning for hiring someone!
It also helps for you to write down and specify those concerns and stressor on paper, sometimes sit down as a household too. Ultimately not just setting your doggy up for success by having everyone equally engaged, but keeping all the humans more balanced and happy too.
Don't let it fester and continue to build up inside because ultimately only you and your dog will suffer. Do what you need to do to address it and regardless of how hard it is, it is always a weight lifted afterwards 🥰
Same here, training curve was so frustrating when nobody from family followed the rules, just ugh, how can one expect the dog to understand the rules, if they're being broken all the time?
She summed up her problem right in the intro: "When he's a puppy, it's okay, but not now." Advice for all of you puppy-owners out there - Don't let the puppy do anything you don't want the adult to do.
Yep I thought the same why was it ok when he was a puppy in the first place.
Yeah. I think it's worse when they are puppies because the baby teeth are extra sharp.
Exactly! You’ve got to always think ahead. If you’re dropping bits of food off the kitchen counter while the dog is jumping up and begging as a puppy, think ahead to how you’ll feel when he’s doubled in height and weight, how will it be then? How will you feel? Will it be a pain?
YES! So, think ahead!
They likely didn’t have the problem with their other dogs, and made an oversight here
@@lindaorlandi1127100. Those baby teeth are like overused but still sharp razors.
It’s amazing how a slight interruption to one of primary senses can change developmental milestones so significantly.
A bit like kids needing to see lips move when learning to speak.
“It’s amazing how a slight interruption to one of the primary senses can change developmental milestones so significantly.” 20:09
What a lovely couple! They also genuinely care about their dog unlike so many who turn up with totally untrained and wildly out of control dogs
2:05 I love how that dog stands on the table, then kinda looks around as though he's wondering what he's suppose to be doing up there.
Well, they know how to care for a dog, they just don't know how to deal with the fact that this dog is deaf, it makes a big difference.
the dog isn't even deaf 😭 she's literally teaching him tricks with words
@@Wdelphene je is deaf. When you have one hearing pet and one deaf, you use both words and hand signals, so they know both.
@@WdelpheneBro he is deaf.
I think this is one of the most remarkable episodes and training techniques I have ever seen Victoria present. Such a marvelous trainer 👏🏼
Victoria's training techniques are so common sense but in your frustration, you don't think about them. A Chihuahua puppy compared to a Rhodesian Ridgeback cannot be trained the same for obvious reasons. This dog's intelligence is really showing, you're truly amazing Victoria!
do you think brain size has something to do with it? genuine question not sarcasm
@@yumyummarblesid say no, the biggest part plays in what they were doing in the past like catching rodents, royalties pet etc
Victoria’s reaction 18:42 😭😭😭😭 Deafness wasnt a plot twist I was expecting. They’re wonderful owners - lots of people would have given up on him. He’s a beautiful dog. I haven’t seen Victoria work with deaf dogs before. This was special and interesting. The owners look 10 years younger after Victoria’s help 😭😭😭😭
Hi Sarah and Marin, I’m deaf and using America sign language from USA. I watched the other episode about Dalmatian deaf dog 🐶just like your deaf dog 🐶 I left the comment and I got some replies back also over 300 like 👍🏻 I was explaining how you can use hand signals like signs language. Example: no, sit, play, walk, sleep, eat maybe few more. At first, it be little hard but later your dog will understand better communication with you both. You can learn little few words with BSL British sign languages to your dog. I did with my cat Lacey. She knows few of them. She learned fast. Your dog loves you and smart! ❤️🤟🏻 your dogs are so adorable! Good Luck! 👍🏻😊
Such an awesome tip! :) 💜
Victoria is spot-on with the hand signals. When you wave your hands, they want to play (rough).
Floyd is a good boy 🥺I’m tearing up over here. Victoria does such an amazing job teaching people the ways of the dog
To those saying NEUTER THE DOG!!! He is very young, 7 months! Just big.. Both testicles have to be down and at 7 months old, both may not be down. Reccomend age is 9 - 11 months! These are experienced owners with RR and are seeking assistance when he's this young. BIG BUT JUST 7MONTHS OLD! AND DEAF!!!
i've literally never seen an owner with so many bruises on their arms from their dog
Yeah it's shocking 😵
Most would have learned months earlier what their dog NEEDS
@@HumanimalChannel I thought he was only 7 months old? If so, they’ve already diagnosed his hearing issues and managed to get Victoria there! In only 5 months! Maybe my timeline is off?
now you have XD
you should’ve met my dog at 5months old 😅 she was a menace
I love how proud they are of him as he figures out how to communicate with his family ❤
This episode needed to be 5 hours long! More special needs dogs please! LOVED IT! So WHOLESOME! ❤
He is such a smart dog! I'm so glad he has such an amazing family to be a part of.
Smart dog, thick owners
Amazing! Even experienced dog owners need a hand! They just needed some guidance on how to communicate with him!
I LOVE that Victoria is back! I thought this was one of those shows that disappeared into the early 2000s only available on CZcams! Imagine my surprise 🤗🤗🤗🥳🥳🥳🥳
I love Ridgebacks so much!!! My boy is a RR mix - he was a handful as a puppy when we lived in an apartment, but since we moved to my house he's been absolutely perfect. Socialization was the key for him when he was a pup - it has made him a very chill and aloof guy, completely unbothered by just about everything (except abrupt loud noises 😆). He's definitely athletic so our favorite form of exercise is biking together. He trots along next to me as I bike. RRs are built for endurance running!
Yes! I have a 5 month old RR mix. He's so rambunctious!
The key is lots of exercise with RR. They are bred to be lion hunters an keep up with a horse for +20 miles
I had a dalmatian awhile back. Like the ridgebacks, they were bred to trot for miles every day with a cart or carriage. I read before I got one that they had A LOT of energy and I thought that just meant they needed to be walked once a day. Boy was I wrong!! These types of dogs need MAJOR stimulation and exercise!
I love Ridgeback's and this is a really beautiful one. They are highly food motivated and quick to learn for food.
That's one smart dog! And he's got wonderful owners, they love him so much. They are so willing to put in the hard work with him and he is a beautiful dog.
I found that a quick lift of my knee as my boy jumped discouraged him. It was not violent, but kept him from put his paws on my chest which was the reason he jumped up. He eventually gave up. Patience with these RRs. They are more than worth the effort.
My family always had Ridgebacks, and Ridgeback mixes growing up because my Dad absolutely loves them. They are definitely some jumping beans!
I have one and she was a rescue. Returned twice before we adopted her. She was VERY hard work but she’s an absolute angel now thanks to everyone in our family agreeing on and committing to the same training techniques.
@@cecart they are the sweetest dogs! They do take some training, but it's so worth it.
They need lots of walks to calm them down.
Wow! These are quite serious behaviours from the dog, referring to the mouthing. But the family is such an amazing family, and they truly love their dogs❤️ I am glad the dogs has the owner he has and he has such a great home❤️ Victoria never fails to help❤️
I'm glad they did the training and not giving up their beautiful fur baby❤️
Hello, how are you doing?
Ridgebacks are soooo smart that I'm sure he'll improve fast and enjoy his new life much more ! Good job
I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Doberman mix as a pup she had 5 hrs a day of running and socializing .After age 3 she slowed down. She is now 8 and is a couch potato unless she hears something unusual. She's a true love bug now.
Victoria successfully translated her techniques to fully non-verbal 🤯
it was like seeing our Astro during his first period at home from the shelter.
same mouthing, same table dancing.
minus the food stealing, but plus a HUGE separation anxiety.
and he's hearing impaired too (but we found out only a few years later).
he's a dogue de bordeaux mix, with a history of neglect, and we got him when he was already 3yo.
a childhood friend of mine, a trainer who applied the same methods as Victoria, helped and guided us through the long journey of his (ri)education.
it was hard work, but one of the most rewarding experience we've ever made.
and the results have been incredible from day one.
now Astro is a happy, healthy, spoiled rotten 9yo canine role model 😎❤
I love these owners. They are willing to learn the techniques and you can tell that they are good people.
Just because it is cute as a puppy that doesn't mean it's a good thing at all.. You train the moment the dog comes into the home.. I have never had these issues with any of my dogs in 35yrs... He's also deaf so that is a totally different type of training as well.. I'm glad they got to one of the best trainers out there and got their lives back...
Amazing episode. Victoria understands dogs better than anyone! I would never have thought of him chasing their hands as a game!
I was very happy the way this family give the effort to take care of this dog ❤❤❤
Well done owners so proud of you keep up the brilliant work 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’ve always loved Rhodesian ridgebacks
We have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Their personalities are totally different. The older male is very reserved and doesn't trust strangers. The younger female is an extrovert and extremely energetic. She also figured out how to unlock some of our security doors if the key is inside the lock. Both are very intelligent and active. These dogs seek eye contact and hold the gaze. They read your body language.
They do very well with hand voice commands, combined with hand signals. The male weighs 50kg, and the female is 30kg. They seem not to know their own strengths.
They are wonderful, loyal, and eager to please animals once they are trained. They are as fast as lightning and need running space.
These are amazing owners who were just dealt a difficult situation. God Bless them.
I love Victoria, not only she trains the dogs but also the humans. Great job 👍
Wow~ Victoria is so brilliant in noticing patterns, and envisioning solutions that a dog will understand. That she is able to figure out how to communicate with a deaf dog with such behavioral issues is awe-inspiring.. :) Great episode, and so glad that this pup got the help that he needed!
This was emotional! Hearing the dad wanted to get rid of him was very sad. He learned so fast and it’s got to be hard for him being partially deaf
Such a beautiful dog. Glad the family learned the sign language for him to understand them better
The lights in the bottom of the kitchen is nice actually
This was such a cool episode. What great and insightful training!
Loved this episode.
But as someone who’s owned 3 Rhodesian Ridgebacks over the years, can I just say for the record: Most ridgebacks are WAY heavier than 38kg!All of mine were 50kg+
He's only 7 months old. That's about how big mine was at that age.
Yeah I’ve noticed a definite trend of both American and British ridgebacks getting bigger.
@@bertellijustin6376all our Southern African Ridgebacks have been at least 45kg, with the males being over 50kg. This is going back to the early 2000s. Not sure if it's a purely British/American or even a recent thing. I've definitely seen significantly smaller Ridgebacks as well, though. Probably not over 40kg, if that.
Beautiful dog, im so pleased you didn't give up on him. Being a dog with a disability he would have spent a long time in a shelter or been put down. He is a very smart dog, he just needed direction.
Good luck and enjoy your baby.
Ridgebacks first and foremost need to Run Run Run! A tired pup is a well behaved pup! They really are the “navy seals” of the canine kingdom. Powerful hunters that need a disciplined training schedule the first 2 years.
Males also are especially intelligent and require positive reinforcement. This episode is a great example
I'm so glad to see a puppy show! I've been loving Victoria for 13 years 😍. My new 6 month puppy needs different signals than my last doggy. More shows please 🙏.
I love this story, I felt so much for the family and their fur member. 💙🐾
This is so heartwarming.
i wanna say, i love Victoria. there's something about this strict british lady.
Yup, yup, yup💗🙏
Definitely an all time best episode!!
Smart dog and smart owners!
What a smart good boy and such wonderful people
Wow! You're awesome. Thank you for all your techniques that change the life of every dogs and it's family. I love it and I'm grateful 😊❤❤
Ridgeback mix is an angel, saved my baby from a dog attack by pitting the other dog to the ground like nat geo.
Merry Christmas Victoria hope have a great holiday with your family ❤️🎅🏻💚
So instant - Victoria is AMAZING
Victoria to the RESCUE! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I loved this episode made me cry!
Great job Victoria!
Oh Gosh this was sooo cute to watch. God Bless you all
That dog has the most adorable face. He is big sure, but he has such sweet eyes!
He is such a beautiful dog 🤎
so beautiful. ❤❤❤
Its one thing to have an unruly pup to try to train.. but to have one partially deaf, or hard of hearing? Imagine.. just trying to get the pups attention, and imagine how pent up he feels without most of his hearing. No wonder he acts up.
Its truly wonderful to see these people have attempted to compensate and train him. They may have things a bit out of order, but theyre trying, and theyve done at least modest research -- theyve already put effort into it, and are actively trying to make things work -- they just need a little help and clarification.
Nope
Clearly
.. they were subpar
@@HumanimalChannel Nowhere near as good as you, obviously. Go on, tell us all how good you are
I loved your show ever since I was little and big fan and I learned so much from you ❤💚🎅🏻
Dogs this size belong with really physical active owners and or people with large yards or working ranches .
I have 2 rhodesian ridgebacks and they are both very well trained and very well behaved. But with rhodesian ridgebacks you MUST train them to a higher level then a typical pet dog.
Ridgebacks are smart and the most bullheaded dog to train but once they got it they are the best dog you can have! Loves the whole family Also they need to get energy out to focus. They can be addicted to food can make it easier on training. They need a strong repetitive owner.
Bullheaded? Nope. Not mine.
@@jrmints80 One of mine is, one isn't
well done with lots of hard work, but worth it.
Amazing good work. I wouldn't have guessed that. It was only after you were doing all those changes and the dog was calmer, that it was noticable to me.. I would definately do a clap test if I ever got another dog.
My mom had one, and oh boy! Lol. When they came to visit and I owned a chihuahua and 4 pit bulls? My mom's dog SASCHA, was the live wire and the love. She was always welcomed, but so rambunctious. Good memories, need big yards.🙏💝
My dog "Hank" does the same thing as that dog in the episode! He mainly does this whenever we return home from work. The rest of the time he's pretty laid back.
Great video!
That's really awesome that they taught their dog sign language.❤😊
This is first time I'm seeing this type of dog. Are they all this smart? Unreal how fast he's learning
I may be being uncharitable to my doggos, but my ridgebacks have been rather dim. Very sweet and eager to please, but not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Perhaps that's just because I've been comparing them to my notably clever dachshund, though, so they're held to an unfair standard. Ridgebacks are wonderful dogs, especially as they mature.
THANK YOU 🙏 I have the EXACT issues less the hearing. We adopted a golden doodle that was never told no.
Love ridgebacks, I have 2 of them. Amazing dogs :)
Tim John Un - These dogs look very dangerous; do you live in rural district?
Pups need to stay with moms for the 1st 10 weeks. They learn so much about bite intervention
What a good boi 😘❤️ Victoria is the best ❤️🙏
Victoria, you are AMAZING❤❤❤❤
Redirection is an amazing tool
Beautiful dogs!
they are so different type of beauty
i love your videos because i can learn when i get my dog 😀😀😀😃😃🤩🤩😄😄😁😁😊😊
SO EXCITED!!! ❤️🎅🏻💚
That was beautiful 👏
Goog job Broder 👍
I have a ridgeback called Floyd. He’s just like this one, my mum is deaf so this is bizarre for me. Great video.
OMG, this is my story! I have an Old Family Rednose Pitbull who is doing the same thing. She thinks she is the boss! Thank you for this video!
my cute RR is very good we have trained him from the beginning and we have exposed him to sound i LOVE RRs
....of course it's so adorable when an 8months puuppy chew and attack you ...
Victoria Stillwell enters the chat...
My dog was like that too I had scratch marks all over me and mouthing me it would take like 15 minutes to put leash on because of all the jumping humping … now he is better with all the training …
My ridgeback use to drink tea from cup&saucer ☕ without making noise after my mom made it for guest, while it was on the dinner table. 😂😂😂 ridgeback love from Sri lanka 🇱🇰 🐕🐶
Rusty Prabash - These dogs look very dangerous in the hands of average person. Are you in rural district?
Taught my ridgy not to jump as a pup of 10 weeks, took a week and he has never done it since
He's a beautiful good boy
too beautiful
I was attacked by two Rhodesian ridgebacks when I was in junior high and one of them took a huge chunk out of my leg. I needed stitches and my leg was bruised really bad for close to a month
I got a 2 year old dog from a rescue that would jump up all the time. I was telling her no and down etc making her stop the jumping if she wanted pets... then I caught one of my kids tapping her chest yelling up up. Luckily my dog is super smart and learned she could only jump when invited to do so, and didn't just get confused and continue jumping all the time.
amazing people
So simple, one of the breeds I'm looking at
Depending on your living situation I recommend one strongly I have two but I also live on land and they run upwards of 5 miles a day
Not even relevant…but I love the lights in their kitchen baseboards! Great concept.
