Good video! I love that you did an indoor comparison, most channels don’t. For the future, it would be great to see both indoor and outdoor images and microphones during the day and night. Thanks for the great video.

Great video. A test of you walking in view of the cameras would be helpful to see how much detail they can pull out of a person as well as how they handle motion, especially at night.

Great review and comparison. I think the nightview comparison needs to be done with IR off on the ones not used to get the true effekt of the IR lights ;) Its also very easy to see how the G5 makes use of a much wider lens that causes barrel effect when looking at your overhead beam at the top of the picture, very curvy compared to the G3 with a pretty straight beam across.

I do mention the fish eye effect too, which is probably because most security cameras need wide coverage rather than distance.
I did the g4s last year for my parents house and the one thing that stood out was the high quality metal housing. Im doing g5 at my house now thats lame that they are plastic.
Tine will tell if it makes a difference. I do think the G5 is much better value, and the image is slightly better too.
Based on my experience the G5 is clearly the superior bullet. BUT, Ubiquiti has chosen a more saturated and higher contrast default setting compared to the G4. Ubiquiti made this choice because people prefer a "punchier" image. This choice isn't necessarily ideal for a security camera. A more detailed comparison would be to adjust the G4 and see how close the look of the image can come to the G5. This test would show the true differences between generations. I have both G4 and G5. The G5 is the one to buy, even at the same price. The reason to buy the more expensive G5 dome would be the desire for a wider field of view or the speaker. The G5 bullet field of view is somewhat narrow for many close-in security camera situations.
Really good points. There are a lot of testing I _could_ do, but had to kinda stop somewhere. Good idea though. I have the G4 dome camera and especially the microphone on that is nowhere near as good, but the field of view is definitely wider.
Thanks for this test, it really helps me in my decision making. I plan to purchase 3 G5 bullets for my cottage in the mountains. The only thing i would complain towards Ubiquiti is, there is no option for another colour. I would like to have a black cover instead of the white one. For sure there is also the Unifi AI lineup, but the price really scares me.

I hear you. Some of the access points have separate skins, but not the cameras. You _could_ wrap it yourself in vinyl or something else, but not sure if you are up for that?

I believe the G3 didn't have AI detection abilities, which could be a big thing for some installs. I think each generation of Unifi gear, whether it be camera, switch or whatever are generational incremental improvements, rather than being a huge "must upgrade" change. I find this good as it means older Unifi hardware can still be used without feeling like you're missing out on features or quality. I do like the way Ubiquiti package everything so nicely to protect the equipment in transport and generally they provide all the hardware you could need for mounting.
Having 100mbps on a camera is absolutely fine. 4K will not ever saturate 100mbps, not with IP Cameras used in CCTV. It's different to 4K broadcasting/streaming (which still won't saturate 100mbps, even with 3 or 4 streams).
I think, like you, I would avoid adjusting brightness and the like as all of this is post processing and will just degrade the picture quality.
The G3 range have motion detection, but not person/vehicle. The G4 does have person/vehicle detection. I think you need the AI range to get number plate recognition now. So, yes, it does evolve over time, but as you say, I can still use all of them together.
100Mbps is totally fine for most things, yes. I aim for GB speed where possible to future proof it a bit though.
When you do your night comparison, be sure to compare each camera one at a time using only the infra red from each camera, otherwise you’re reviewing it with light coming from all three cameras at the same time.

I've been using cameras for decades, just got my hands on a G5 flex, G5 bullet, G4 instant, and now the G4 pro doorbell. The G5 is a smidge better, and I can't wait to get my hands on a G5 doorbell pro Poe, with a plug in chime and not an ethernet chime.
I'd love to try out the G5 flex too. Hopefully in a video soon.

I’m considering moving away from my 4 Google Nest cams. I have the subscription service with 60 day history. Have you done any comparisons between Nest and UniFi cams?
Yes, replying to comments is the best way to learn from each other and build up the community for the channel.
I haven't done any comparison with the Google Nest cams. Unifi doesn't have any subscriptions. Instead you store the footage locally yourself using an NVR or similar. I have made a video of the NVR here: czcams.com/video/u3RTjKZcMQY/video.html

It looks like you had all three cameras on at the same time with IR light on all during the night testing. Which means the IR output was three times as much as if just one camera at a time would be tested. Maybe a retest using one at a time is in order.

I don't know if I missed it but the g5 bullet cannot use the IR extender that the g4 and g3 can use. So if you need to see out longer range, you will need the older g4 or figure out maybe using an IR floodlight in conjunction with the g5.

Did you turn the IR off the cameras one at a time to compare each camera’s IR? If you have 3 cameras blasting out IR they all will have good lighting conditions

Hello Lars, thanks for your comparison. One question, In spec G4 has view angle 86, 60, 111 and G5 84.4, 45,4, 99.8. For me this means that the G4 Bullet has wider angles. But when you compare camera pictures you say that G5 has more fish eye and wider angle .. how is that?
Great observation Patrik. And I don't have a good answer either. I just found that the G5 is more fish eye-ish in the image. Could it be the way the lens is created?
Random unrelated question. I'm noticing less spider's web around my G5 Dome vs my bullets, is that your experience too? Or is it totally random?
Now that you mention it, I haven't had any spider webs on the Dome either. I think the rounded form factor doesn't leave as many angles to attach the web to, but I am not Spiderman 🤷♂

So your night test was don't with IR lights from all 3 cameras? That's a lot more light than you would normally have.

I have G4 Pro, AI Pro and am considering a G5 bullet for a shed as I don’t need 4K. In light of the fast ethernet (FE), I have several floodlights that I noticed are also FE. Interestingly I set the port from auto to GbE and it still worked. I’d be curious if the same thing applies to the G5 bullet?
I changed the port to run 1Gb, and it didn't seem to make any difference. If I move it to "auto" then it adjusts back to FE again.
But it still ran at 1Gpbs right?

I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you want to know the max length of a CAT6 cable? Recommended max length is 100 metres.
There is no PoE adaptor on my camera.

I generally do. Often when I record you are coming along for the first impression and plan to set it up. Sometimes I change that slightly after filming, so I do cable management then. Also, it isn't very interesting to see cable management I think, unless it is a huge install. 😊

Possibly because the cameras a for different applications? And the G4 and G5 on paper are not completely comparable, as the G5 is kind of a "cheaper" version of G4, unless you want specific things, such as the IR attachment on the G4 Bullet.
