I would like to know how The AI Pro works in Home Assistant. Can license plate detection or face detection be used to trigger an automation, for example?
Nice comparison, I currently have 5x G4 Pro´s + a whole bunch of G4 and G5 domes, bullets etc. I have considered replacing those G4 Pro´s with either G5 Pro or the AI but I dont really need those extra features, so I will probably go for G5 Pro´s. I cant remember if you have tested the AI 360, but I was really disappointed with the video quality when I put that up as a replacement for 2x G4 domes on an overhang (corner).
Thanks mate ☺ I would choose the G5 Pro over the G4 Pro too, but it is harder with the AI Pro. I suspect it will get a lot more AI features over time. I haven't got an AI 360, but that is disappointing.
i am keen to get my hands on the G5 PTZ hopefully its a decent price in australia as currently ive got my g5 bullet setup as a traffic camera on a main road
Thanks for the video great as always. How are those enhancers that you can get for the cameras? New to unifi protect and looking to finally change out my other cameras (Nest, Arlo, Eufy, etc) for Unifi. So just curious about those enhancers.
@@LarsKlintTech Ha ha ha that is to funny and what a coincidence. I had another question since this will be my first time venturing into Unifi Protect ecosystem from Eufy, Arlo, Google, Nest, etc. So do all the cameras have some basic AI capability (people, objects, vehicle, animals, etc)? But it is just the specific AI cameras they have more detailed AI like facial recognition and license plate identification? I just was not sure if I put a camera up someplace if it would have the basic AI identification or not. Or if they do which cameras those would be (Pro, Bullet, Instant, flex, etc). Since I was mainly looking t the Pro, Flex and Instant right now until I saw this video.
@@DonnieKluck All the cameras have some kind of detections. The G5 Flex has "animal", "person", and "vehicle", as well as just general movement. I am not sure about the Instant (I haven't got one), but the Bullet and Pro cameras definitely do.
so ive never used the ubuiqit camera/nvr eco system but is there a way with all these detects to send a api call depending on plate or person . or maybe get logging so you can parse all the events and do something based on them. further more.
Yes, you absolutely can. I use Unifi Protect with Home Assistant. One example is this video where I get the G4 Doorbell event and create a custom notification: czcams.com/video/sMflKCJhYlE/video.html
Yes the grommit..... One of the biggest gripes I have is the difficulty in being able to get replacement grommets..... Some of us don't always buy new.... My solution, not ideal, is to get your cable right and then use a judicious amount of silicone sealant, as I said not ideal... If anyone knows where to get spares it would be great, support was not that helpful.
This is a good point. Silicone will work well, but a bit messy and tricky to move the camera then. I don't know where you get spares. I will add to my list to ask.
@@LarsKlintTech Unfortunately for some reason Unifi doesn't give me the ability to have HQ be the default, so I am constantly having to switch it over manually.
FWIW: I have the G5 Pro that I purchased at the tail end of its EA program (so I think it's the same hardware that went into production) and I have 4 of the AI Pros. The pixelation of the G5 Pro that you had in your video demo is very common on my G5 Pro, but I never get it with any of the AI Pros. Not sure if it's a hardware or software issue.
Interesting. It could be my connection to the NVR in this case. I had a dodgy cable that was causing some issues. Or it could be processing on the camera itself?
I guess the big question is what's the price difference between the g5 and ai pro? If i ever move i think I'll be kitting out my house with lots of Unifi toys 🎉
The AI DSLR is very niche and very expensive, so the market is a lot smaller, hence you are less likely to see videos on it. If I got my hands on one, I would make a video on it though 😁
Yeah, thanks mate. Initially it was on, but I removed it pretty quickly. It only affected the night vision as well. The camera quality is as good as it gets ☺️
@@LarsKlintTech a little bit of understanding how image recognition works, it looks like one large black background of the bumper with a black background on the plate with silver letters and that’s a lot of pixels to process
The UP Sense always seems to be "poor", but works just fine. Not sure what that is about. The Llama cam 1 & 2 are connected via a NanoStation link, and at this time I had a dodgy cable attached to one of them, which made the speed go up and down. For future reference, use a timestamp (like 14:02) in your comment, so it is easier to find your reference ☺
AI in UniFi is very Hit-n-Miss currently and only half the AI stuff actually support the AI features like LNPR and Facial Recognition. Now couple this with bloody changes in firmwares that have resulted in poor detection and read rates. As for the design of the Bullets, yeah, all suck balls being a PITA to align and get solid. The all metal Pro is even worse unless you grease the parts to stop them galling on threads. Detaections, Audio types, nope, false triggers or no triggers so, a WOFTAM. Enhanced Encoding is nothing more than UBNT finally looking a H265 rather than H264. Leave off with G4 cameras as it's screwed. BTW: Throw the Pole mount brackets away, cheap and nasty cast aluminum that breaks too easy.
Thanks for your input Benny. I love getting all practical opinions on the devices ☺ I agree, the AI features and products are still in their infancy, and we haven't see anywhere near the full potential yet. I have only just got the camera, so I don't know the history of firmware changes in details. Anything you can share? So far, I have only had issues with the number plate recognition occasionally. BTW: I have some pole mounts I have used for 3-4 years and still going strong, but I will check them for cracks now :☺ Thanks again for watching.
@@LarsKlintTech I have been using UniFi cameras since it was called UniFi Video and you could BYO NVR/Server and those days were great. Now, locked into a product that has always been lacking in performance. Different firmwares have affected the abilities of the AI each time and currently, they suck. China is way better at these features. The Pole mounts, if the steel ones, they fine. The cast ally's are weak and break.
Thanks so much for testing the cameras for us, it helps.
You are most welcome mate. More videos to come on this awesome camera too ☺

My g4 pro has stopped being detected online. Only the backlight diodes are lit. It does not respond to the reset button. Tell me what can be done?
I'm not sure. Have you contacted UI support? Is it still within warranty? If so, you can request an RMA.
The plastic cover is probably why it was going out of focus so frequently
I did take it off, so I reckon it was a dodgy cable connecting my NVR. Thanks for watching 😊
