  • At our channel @DIYDollArtist we repair and restore broken, sometimes dirty, neglected dolls and toys. The restoration of these vintage dolls can come in many different ways, some we find at shops, some are found and given to us to restore, and some just need a little love. This is a very special doll that was given to us to restore from a dear friend. She is a vintage Ideal Toni doll, a P91 which means she is 16" tall with an original nylon apricot wig and her complete original outfit. We show her entire restoration from her original nylon wig to her original shoes. Here are some links from our channel @DIYDollArtist and some of the products we used to restore this vintage Ideal Toni doll.

      That was objective. Some people are afraid to wash, clean and their dolls or clothes. We thought it might give some people more confidence to clean help their dolls . After 70 years even dolls need clean clothes and a bath.😂😉❤️

    Two weeks ago I found a 14” Toni at a local Goodwill for $4.99, complete with red and white original outfit. I recognized the dress before the doll at the bottom of a pile of dolls. I nearly fell over. She’s been restrung and refurbished using some of your older tutorials. So pleased. I used a water/vinegar solution to set the red color and went with Dawn dish soap and cold water to wash the dress

    Appreciated as always! I've never tried soaking vintage cotton in straight vinegar...thank you for that hint. Also, I appreciate the three-latex band stringing method. I guess I need to invest in some of the ones you use!

      We are so happy the video was helpful. I’ve tried other bands and ways for stringing. For me I feel it’s the safest for my dolls. we are going to try and make bands out of cording for those that will only use cording. If we can figure out away to adapt cording bands we will let everyone know. Pulling too hard in the stringing process can be harmful to the dolls. so we will try and find a solution to both ways of stringing.

    I have been using Shout Color Catcher sheets along with oxy for colors that might bleed for several years now and have been very happy with the results. I put it right in with the oxy and it will pick up the extra dye from the wash water.

    On a separate note, you mentioned that there were things about Ruby Sue that made you think she was an early edition. What about a program on dating the various years by those signs. Also, I’d love to see anything on the various hairstyles that Toni originally came in. Your’s is such an informative channel. Love it!

      We will try and find the information you speak of. It can be tricky because the manufacturers were very inconsistent. That’s why we get confused sometimes. but we will seek out answers to your questions.❤️🌺

    Enjoying your videos! Is there any way to get rid of the cheesy hard plastic disease smell? I have tried everything but it always comes back. Any tip would be helpful, thank you!

      I do not have a video on eradicating hard plastic disease. I do have a video on cleaning the inside of the doll, getting rid of mold and removing rust on the metals. Just because your doll has an odor doesn’t mean that she has hard plastic disease. We have had dolls with many different types of odors. Some are from the rusty metal’s inside, musty from storage, also smells from molds of different types. But all of these dolls are now odor free and these odors were not passed to other dolls. All dolls with mold have to be kept separate till the mold is completely eradicated. But the other odors do not pass to other dolls. In my research there are dolls that have hard plastic disease with a very foul odor. There were plastics made in Germany that are prone to this problem. I have seen the full effects of hard plastic disease although we have never had one. I think that some think their dolls have it but they don’t . The odors can be caused like I said by many other things that can be dealt with besides throwing the doll away. Here is a link to that video, I hope it helps. If you are still having a problem after watching the video let me know and I will see if I can help.🥰

    Doesn’t the wig glue get loose ? I’m afraid to wash my saucy walkers hair

    • @DIYDollArtist
      @DIYDollArtist  Před 3 měsíci

      I have washed a Saucy Walker’s hair without any trouble. In the Judith Izen book about Ideal Dolls it says”The Saran hair could be shampooed and curled. Saucy came with vinyl curlers attached to her tag as did all the Ideal dolls of that era.” Anything is possible especially due to its age, you could try getting a small patch wet and see what happens. I hope this helps, let me know if I can help with anything. 🥰
