How to detangle, fix and restore "KANEKALON" doll hair

- Here's a tutorial on how i fix my dolls their tangled, dry and frizzy "KANEKALON" hair. I'll also show you how to clean your doll. :-p
Instead of an avocado hairmask, you can also use an olive hairmask. :-)

OMG I just tried this on a BJD wig, and it went from being tangled and ratty to feeling like human hair fresh out of the salon! The hair mask really made a difference, and my doll smells soooo good because of it. Amazing, thank you for this.

This video is the reason I went out of my way to try and find this doll! Who would have thought the Fairytopia movies had such amazing dolls! At the time they came out I was still a child and there was no way my parents would ever buy me one of these girls. So to ebay I went to find me one of these girls. Thankfully the one I bought still had her factory hair intact so the washing process wasn't as rigorous for me. But MY GOD was her hair feeling dry and brittle, as I was slowly making my way up to the scalp being careful not to snag her hair I noticed a lot of flaking, bits of hair just falling off. I'm assuming the hair just broke eventually from being in the same style for fo long, eventually I was able to run my brush smoothly through the hair and moved on to cleaning, I didn't have any hair mask or conditioner so I simply washed her with some delicate shampoo and afterwards used fabric softener, this hair was super straight afterwards and smelled amazing as well as feeling super soft! Sadly I don't have a hair straightener so instead I simply brushed her hair down as it was still wet and let her dry overnight. The result was super similar to your final product, the hair fibers are so thin that the slightest wind made it look like one of those shampoo commercials lol! Tho I have to admit that I still had a few scraggly ends, I'm assuming using the hair straightener makes sure that all the hair is bone straight. Mine is mostly straight with no wave and just the ends having some scraggly hairs. But yeah this video was super helpful and I'm so glad I bumped into it. I now have one of my favorite dolls as part of my collection~

Ha, great minds think alike, since that's almost exactly the method I've been using for My Little Ponies for past 6 years, down do putting on the hair conditioner/hair mask. I was worried if kanekalon would melt while using hair straightener (nylon hair is fine), but I guess it's fine as well then. Thanks for this video.
Tip: nylon hair needs to be treated like a friggin baby bec it burns verrrrryyyy easily ok? Ok.

Yo this guy can make a killing profit fixing up old dolls weather people bring their dolls to him to repair there hair and clean there bodies up for 3 dollars a doll or going to thrift stores buying old dolls repairing them and selling at flea markets and selling the dolls for 5 to 10 dollars a pop. The hairstraightener i use is nothing fancy. It's a OK. OTS 103R in red. :-)

The year of the doll doesn’t matter. All that counts is what type of hair she has.
In my experience it is possible to use a straightener on saran doll hair. But it could burn/melt/shrivel a lot quicker than kanekalon. So I suggest that if you really “have” to use a straightener, use nothing higher than 120 degrees celcius. Even though that temperature is already pushing it.
I typically don’t use a straightener on saran hair at all. Since a boilwash usually does the job just fine. I only straighten saran hair in very rare cases. :-)

No idea what type of hair she had so I was a bit concerned about the boiling water and hair straightener - mine only went as low as 150, but it turned out beautifully and I will have one very happy niece now!

This is perfect. If I could show you a picture of before and after on the Barbie I just did y’all would see how well it works… The only thing is my flat iron doesn’t have a temperature gauge on it. It’s literally higher or low so I didn’t want to risk it burning her hair, but it didn’t matter I can curl it otherwise if I want otherwise, it’s just straight very soft and shiny and pretty.

It's a synthetic fiber used in real human wigs and hair extensions, kanekalon is one of the thinnest types of hair, sadly the doll "version" of this type of fiber stopped its production about a couple of years ago because it was more expensive and now all the dolls use nylon which is thicker and uglier looking but easier to comb and cheaper.
@@TheStOne1 Actually a lot of playline dolls nowadays use saran!
@iridian GG ...it is. Kanekalon, nylon, saran.... it's all plastic. With any of the fibres, there are varying degrees of qualities and sizes. Kanekalon was generally regarded as the " cheap" fibre for doll hair ( think of the big, dry fluffy Barbie hair of the late 80s/90s, but also many super straight haired dolls). Saran is usually silkier, softer, and " hangs" better. Saran is more easily affected by heat ( often quickly frying with too much heat, but curling really quickly) whereas saran is more resistant to heat. Saran, in varying qualities, is usually the norm anymore, but i'm sure other fibres are used depending upon the end result required and budget of the doll.
Great tutorial, thank you!!! I strongly suggest investing in a pet lice comb if you are working with newer dolls that have heavily-gelled original styles; the very fine comb will make loosening the gel MUCH easier and will feel so much better once dried. I seriously wish i had done this before storing my Monster High dolls and now that I'm assessing them for doll customization projects, ive spent all day just doing a first pass on combing this hair even though i know i will most likely be removing the hair altogether eventually for a new reroot. THIS STUFF IS EVIL!!!

Wow, thanks for the video! I'm gonna try these on my old Barbie dolls. I've been using conditioner to fix my other dolls hair, and lately tried fabric conditiioner as well. Those 2 items help a lot but not as great as the result of f your technique. Hahaha! I nearly fell off my chair when you poured the boiling water on the doll! I didn't know that the plastic would be able to withstand that heat. Anyway, I enjoyed the video very much and Ithere was never a boring moment. Loved your sense of humor too!
Guys! Be careful if your hair straightener gets too hot! It'll burn the hair off :(

Can I use a regular big tooth human comb? I can't find any doll brushes also it might be fine for me because im working with a regular size My little pony would a big tooth comb work for tangles being thinner hair?

Kanekalon hair makes me nuts. I usually work with nylon pony hair, but I'm trying fix up some of my 80's Barbies. I'm trying to restore kanekalon curly hair. I loved the video and appreciate your humour. I think I'll follow most of your steps and end with curlers. Thanks.

Kanekelon is one of kind doll hair that still good even you use hair straightener. And i always use straightener on another kind of the doll hair. As long its not too hot. The hair not melted
